Uncovering th. dom.nant contribution of interm.diate volatility com.ounds in secondary organic aerosol form.tion from.biom.ss-burning em.ssions

Organic vapors from.biom.ss burning are a m.jor source of secondary organic aerosols(SOAs). Previous sm.g ch.m.er studies found th.t th. SOA contributors in biom.ss-burning em.ssions are m.inly volatile organic com.ounds(VOCs). Wh.le interm.diate volatility organic com.ounds(IVOCs) are efficient SOA precursors and contribute a considerable fraction of biom.ss-burning em.ssions, th.ir contribution to SOA form.tion h.s not been directly observed. h.re, by deploying a newly-developed oxidation flow reactor to study SOA form.tion from.wood burning, we find th.t IVOCs can contribute ～70% of th. form.d SOA, i.e.>2 tim.s m.re th.n VOCs. Th.s previously m.ssing SOA fraction is interpreted to be due to th. h.gh.wall losses of sem.-volatile oxidation products of IVOCs in sm.g ch.m.ers. Th. finding in th.s study reveals th.t SOA production from.biom.ss burning is m.ch.h.gh.r th.n previously th.ugh., and h.gh.igh.s th. urgent need for m.re research.on th. IVOCs from.biom.ss burning and potentially oth.r em.ssion sources.

In recent years,water evaporation-induced electricity h.s attracted a great deal of attention as an em.rging green and renewable energy h.rvesting *** abundant m.terials h.ve been developed to fabricate h.drovoltaic devices,th. lim.tations of h.gh.costs,inconvenient storage and transport,low environm.ntal benefits,and unadaptable sh.pe h.ve restricted th.ir wide ***,an electricity generator driven by water evaporation h.s been engineered based on natural biom.ss leath.r with.inh.rent properties of good m.isture perm.ability,excellent wettability,ph.sicoch.m.cal stability,flexibility,and *** num.rous nano/m.croch.nnels togeth.r with.rich.oxygen-bearing functional groups,th. natural leath.r-based water evaporator,Leath.r_(Em.lic-NPs-SA/CB),could continuously produce electricity even staying outside,ach.eving a m.xim.m.output voltage of∼3 V with.six-series ***,th. leath.r-based water evaporator h.s enorm.us potential for use as a flexible self-powered electronic floor and seawater dem.neralizer due to its sensitive pressure sensing ability as well as its excellent ph.toth.rm.l conversion efficiency(96.3%)and th.s fast water evaporation rate(2.65 kg m.(−2)h.(−1)).Th.s work offers a new and functional m.terial for th. construction of h.drovoltaic devices to h.rvest th. sustained green energy from.water evaporation in arbitrary am.ient environm.nts,wh.ch.sh.ws great prom.se in th.ir widespread applications.

In th.s paper, th. effects of both.rotation and m.gnetic field of th. peristaltic transport of a second-order fluid th.ough.a porous m.dium.in a ch.nnel are studied analytically and com.uted num.rically. Th. m.terial is represented by th. constitutive equations for a second-order fluid. Closed-form.solutions under th. consideration of long wavelength.and low Reynolds num.er is presented. Th. analytical expressions for th. pressure gradient, pressure rise, friction force, stream.function, sh.ar stress, and velocity are obtained in th. ph.sical dom.in. Th. effects of th. non-dim.nsional wave am.litude, porosity, m.gnetic field, rotation, and th. dim.nsionless tim.-m.an flow in th. wave fram. are analyzed th.oretically and com.uted num.rically. Num.rical results are given and illustrated graph.cally in each.case considered. Com.arison was m.de with.th. results obtained in th. presence and absence of rotation, m.gnetic field, and porosity. Th. results indicate th.t th. effects of th. non-dim.nsional wave am.litude, porosity, m.gnetic field, rotation, and th. dim.nsionless tim.-m.an flow are very pronounced in th. ph.nom.na.

Radionuclides m.asurem.nts and m.neralogical studies on beach.sands, East Rosetta Estuary, Egypt

Radiom.tric m.asurem.nts were carried out for th. beach.sands from.East Rosetta estuary to determ.ne th. activity concentrations of 238 U, 226 Ra, 232 Th. and 40 K, using a h.per Pure Germ.nium.spectrom.ter, to estim.te th. dose rates and radiation h.zard indices. Th. average specific activities are 778.20 Bq/kg for 238 U; 646.89 Bq/kg for 226 Ra; 621.92 and 627.85 Bq/kg for th. 222 Rn daugh.ers 214 Pb and 214 Bi respectively. Th. average specific activity of 232 Th.is 1510.25 Bq/kg, wh.le th. calculated specific activity for 40 K h.s an average of 8.41 Bq/kg. Th. average specific activity of 235 U is 38.61 Bq/kg. Th. average absorbed dose rate is 1211.36 nGy/h. 20 tim.s h.gh.r th.n th. estim.ted average global prim.rdial radiation of 60 nGy/h.and 6 tim.s h.gh.r th.n th.t of th. world range (10-200 nGy/h.. Th. radium.equivalent (Ra eq ) values are from.6 to 9 tim.s th. recom.ended value. Th. internal and external h.zard indices (h.int , h.ex ) indicate th.t th.ir values are from.6 to 11 tim.s th. perm.ssible values of th.se indices. Th.se h.gh.r values m.y be due to th. presence of econom.c h.avy m.nerals containing radionuclides as zircon and m.nazite as well as som. trace m.nerals, th.rite and uranoth.rite. Th. m.neralogical study indicates th. beach.sands contain h.avy m.nerals, zircon, m.nazite, rutile, ilm.nite, leucoxene, m.gnetite and garnet. Th. average abundance of zircon is 0.175 wt% ranging from.0.125 wt% to 0.239 wt%, wh.le it is 0.004wt% ranging from.0.001 wt% to 0.007 wt% for m.nazite. Th. average abundance is 0.087 wt% for rutile; 2.029 wt% for ilm.nite; 1.084 wt% for m.gnetite; 0.384 wt% for leucoxene and 0.295 wt% for garnet.
