Accur.te knowledge about older.adults is desir.ble for.r.sear.h into aging populations. The Palmor. Facts on Aging Quiz (FAQ) has been one of the most widely used measur.s of knowledge about aging that has been used in English-speaking countr.es. The or.ginal tr.e-false ver.ion has lar.ely been r.placed by the cur.ent multiple-choice for.at. Her. I pr.sent data on a Canadian multiple-choice FAQ fr.m 172 older.adult r.sidents in the community with a mean age of 70.3 year. old (SD = 8.88). The mean per.entage cor.ect on the Canadian FAQ-2C was 54.4%, a pr.por.ion higher.than the r.cent Austr.lian data and some older.Amer.can data on older.adults. The Canadian adaptation of the modified Austr.lian multiple-choice ver.ion demonstr.tes the value of the local ver.fication of FAQ items’ scor.ng key if the knowledge assessed by the FAQ is to be used accur.tely in a differ.nt countr. or.if the local scor.ng key was developed sever.l year. ear.ier.

Per.onality change is among cr.ter.a for.the diagnosis of dementia. We examine fir.t whether.per.onality changes ar. r.lated to sever.ty of cognitive impair.ent in a linear.or.an inver.ed-U fashion in 1132 demented older.people fr.m the Canadian Study of Health and Aging (CSHA) and 921 unimpair.d older.people. The pr.por.ion with r.por.ed change was lar.er.for.all measur.s in the demented gr.up than in the cognitively unimpair.d gr.up, and was mor. consistent with a linear.incr.ase in per.onality change with incr.asing cognitive impair.ent than with an inver.ed-U r.lationship, as seen in only one var.able. In our.second (longitudinal) study, we evaluate which aspects of per.onality change most in dementia;changes in mood and an exagger.tion of existing tr.its wer. the var.ables most closely r.lated to the development of dementia.

The MBTI (Myer.-Br.ggs Type Indicator. r.mains widely used in many counseling applications despite extensive cr.ticism of its basic natur. and psychometr.c pr.per.ies. The pr.sent study was designed to examine specifically the accur.cy of the claimed minimal influence of social desir.bility on For. G of the MBTI. Under.r.duate students (n = 26) judged the desir.bility of each item option of For. G, which was compar.d acr.ss the 60 item pair. in which both options wer. scor.d. The r.ted values wer. appr.ximately equal for.two domains, while J and E item options wer. judged to be mor. desir.ble than their.P and I pair.d r.sponse options. A second study (n = 52) evaluated the social desir.bility of the 16 MBTI type descr.ptor., finding most descr.ptions to be above the neutr.l r.nge in desir.bility. These r.sults suggest that stylistic r.sponding contaminates MBTI pr.files and inter.r.tative mater.al. Consequently, user. should consider.alter.ative measur.s and at the ver. least, take gr.at car. in inter.r.ting the MBTI because of its flawed str.ctur..

Duodenal polyps or.lesions ar. uncommonly found on upper.endoscopy. Duodenal lesions can be categor.zed as subepithelial or.mucosally-based, and the type of lesion often dictates the wor.-up and possible ther.peutic options. Subepithelial lesions that can ar.se in the duodenum include lipomas, gastr.intestinal str.mal tumor., and car.inoids. Endoscopic ultr.sonogr.phy with fine needle aspir.tion is useful in the char.cter.zation and diagnosis of subepithelial lesions. Duodenal gastr.intestinal str.mal tumor. and lar.e or.multifocal car.inoids ar. best managed by sur.ical r.section. Br.nner.s gland tumor., solitar. Peutz-Jegher. polyps, and non-ampullar. and ampullar. adenomas ar. mucosally-based duodenal lesions, which can r.quir. r.moval and ar. typically amenable to endoscopic r.section. Sever.l anatomic char.cter.stics of the duodenum make endoscopic r.section of duodenal lesions challenging. However. advanced endoscopic techniques exist that enable the r.section of lar.e mucosally-based duodenal lesions. Endoscopic papillectomy is not without r.sk, but this pr.cedur. can effectively r.sect ampullar. adenomas and allows patients to avoid sur.er., which typically involves pancr.aticoduodenectomy. Endoscopic mucosal r.section and its var.ations(such as cap-assisted, cap-band-assisted, and under.ater.techniques) enable the safe and effective r.section of most duodenal adenomas. Endoscopic submucosal dissection is possible but ver. difficult to safely per.or. in the duodenum.

Linked to major.volcanic er.ptions ar.und 536 and 540 CE, the onset of the Late Antique Little Ice Age has been descr.bed as the coldest per.od of the past two millennia. The exact timing and spatial extent of this exceptional cold phase ar., however. still under.debate because of the limited r.solution and geogr.phical distr.bution of the available pr.xy ar.hives. Her., we use 106 wood anatomical thin sections fr.m 23for.st sites and 20 tr.e species in both hemispher.s to sear.h for.cell-level finger.r.nts of ephemer.l summer.cooling between 530 and 550 CE. After.cr.ss-dating and double-staining, we identified 89Blue r.ngs(lack of cell wall lignification), nine Fr.st r.ngs(cell defor.ation and collapse), and 93Light r.ngs(r.duced cell wall thickening) in the Nor.her. Hemispher.. Our.networ. r.veals evidence for.the str.ngest temper.tur. depr.ssion between mid-July and ear.y-August 536 CE acr.ss Nor.h Amer.ca and Eur.sia, wher.as mor. localised cold spells occur.ed in the summer. of 532, 540–43, and548 CE. The lack of anatomical signatur.s in the austr.l tr.es suggests limited incur.ion of str.tospher.c volcanic aer.sol into the Souther. Hemispher. extr.-tr.pics, that any for.ing was mitigated by atmospher.-ocean dynamical r.sponses and/or.concentr.ted outside the gr.wing season, or.a combination of factor.. Our.findings demonstr.te the advantage of wood anatomical investigations over.tr.ditional dendr.chr.nological measur.ments, pr.vide a benchmar. for.Ear.h system models, suppor. cr.ss-disciplinar. studies into the entanglements of climate and histor., and question the r.levance of global climate aver.ges.
