In crop plants, various environmental stresses affect the balance of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus(C:n:P), leading to biochemical and physiological alterations and reductions in yield. silicon(si) is a beneficial element that alleviates plant stress. Most studies involving silicon have focused on physiological responses, such as improvements in photosynthetic processes, water use efficiency, and antioxidant defense systems. But recent research suggests that stressed plants facing either limited or excessive resources(water, light, nutrients, and toxic elements), strategically employ si to maintain C:n:P homeostasis, thereby minimizing biomass losses. Understanding the role of si in mitigating the impact of abiotic stresses on plants by regulating C:n:P homeostasis holds great potential for advancing sustainable agricultural practices in crop production. This review presents recent advances in characterizing the influence of environmental stresses on C:n:P homeostasis, as well as the role of si in preserving C:n:P equilibrium and attenuating biological damage associated with abiotic stress. It underscores the beneficial effects of si in sustaining C:n:P homeostasis and incre.s.ng yield via improved nutritional efficiency and stress mitigation.

Background:Hemodialysis(HD) per se is a risk factor for *** the growing body of evidence on blood-flow restriction(BFR) exercise in HD patients,identification of possible risk factors related to the prothrombotic agent D-dimer is required for the safety and feasibility of this training *** aim of the present study was to identify risk factors associated with higher D-dimer levels and to determine the acute effect of resistance exercise(Re) with BFR on this ***:Two hundred and six HD patients volunteered for this study(all with a glomerular filtration rate of n/1.73 m2).The Re+BFR session consisted of 50% arterial occlusion pressure during 50 min sessions of HD(intradialytic exercise).Re repetitions included concentric and eccentric lifting phases(each lasting 2 s) and were supervised by a strength and conditioning ***:several variables were associated with elevated levels of D-dimer,including higher blood glucose,citrate use,recent cardiovascular events,recent intercurrents,higher inflammatory status,catheter as vascular access,older patients(>70 years old),and HD ***,Re+BFR significantly increases D-dimer after 4 *** with borderline baseline D-dimer levels(400-490 ng/mL) displayed increased risk of elevating D-dimer over the normal range(≥500 ng/mL).Conclusion:These results identified factors associated with a heightened prothrombotic state and may assist in the screening process for HD patients who wish to undergo Re+BFR.D-dimer and/or other fibrinolysis factors should be assessed at baseline and throughout the protocol as a precautionary measure to maximize safety during Re+BFR.

MicroRnAs(miRnAs),small non-coding RnAs composed of 18–24 nucleotides,are potent regulators of gene expression,contributing to the regulation of more than 30%of protein-coding *** that miRnAs are regulators of inflammatory pathways and the differentiation of intestinal epithelial cells,there is an interest in exploring their importance in inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).IBD is a chronic and multifactorial disease of the gastrointestinal tract;the main forms are Crohn's disease and ulcerative *** studies have investigated the dysregulated expression of miRnAs in IBD,demonstrating their important roles as regulators and potential biomarkers of this *** editorial presents what is known and what is expected regarding miRnAs in *** the important regulatory roles of miRnAs in IBD are clearly established,biomarkers for IBD that can be applied in clinical practice are lacking,emphasizing the importance of further *** regarding the influence of miRnAs on the inflammatory process and the exploration of their role in gene regulation are expected to provide a basis for the use of miRnAs not only as potent biomarkers in IBD but also as therapeutic targets for the control of inflammatory processes in pe.s.nalized medicine.

Dear editor:We.s.ncerely thank Matthew *** for his insightful commentary1 on our recent publication in the Journal of sport and Health science.2 Clarkson's pioneering work in the development and application of blood flow restriction (BFR) exercise protocols has undeniably laid the groundwork for subsequent investigations in this field,including our own.(3-6)His commentary not only highlights the relevance and timeliness of our study but also offers valuable perspectives on refining safety considerations for intradialytic BFR exercise among hemodialysis patients.

The high rates of depression,burnout,and increased risk of suicide among medical students,residents,and physicians in comparison with other careers signal a mental health crisis within our *** contend that this crisis coupled with the inadequate acquisition of interpe.s.nal skills during medical education results from the interaction between a challenging environment and the mental capital of ***,we posit that mindfulness-based practices are instrumental for the development of major components of mental capital,such as resilience,flexibility of mind,and learning skills,while also serving as a pathway to enhance empathy,compassion,self-awareness,conflict resolution,and relational ***,the evidence base supporting the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions has been incre.s.ng over the years,and a growing number of medical schools have already integrated mindfulness into their *** we acknowledge that mindfulness is not a panacea for all educational and mental health problems in this field,we argue that there is currently an unprecedented opportunity to gather momentum,spread and study mindfulness-based programs in medical schools around the world as a way to address some longstanding shortcomings of the medical profession and the health and educational systems upon which it is rooted.

Background Treeline ecotones of Mediterranean ecoregions have been affected by the incre.s.ng intensity and severity of droughts. even though the effect of droughts on forest dynamics has been widely documented, knowledge is relatively scarce of how extreme climate episodes affect the hydraulic structure and, therefore, the phys-iology of woody plants. The Mediterranean Andes have experienced an uninterrupted period of drought since 2010, including an extremely dry year in 2019 with approximately 80% rainfall deficit. Here, we investigated shifts in wood anatomical and physiological traits of Kageneckia angustifolia, an endemic treeline species, in response to this drought *** We evaluated the xylem plasticity of three K. angustifolia populations across their natural distribution(31–35° sL) based on anatomical(vessel structure and distribution) and physiological(intrinsic water-use efficiency) variables in the tree rings. We focused on the period 2000–2020 that corresponds to before the megadrought(2000–2007),(ii) megadrought(2008–2018) and(iii) hyperdrought(2019–2020). The variables were annualized and analyzed by linear mixed-effects *** Our results provide insights to the anatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying the resilience of treeline forests to persistent droughts in central Chile. We found that the extreme drought in 2019–2020 triggered shifts in vessel size and frequency that increased hydraulic safety. These significant shifts in vessel traits occurred in parallel with a decrease in pit aperture area and an increase in water-use efficiency, further incre.s.ng the resilience of K. angustifolia to extreme drought *** Our results revealed coordinated shifts in vessel size and frequency and water-use efficiency in response to the megadrought, thereby reducing vulnerability to hydraulic failure. Background: We currently have international and national guidelines regarding the assessment and monitoring of clinical signs and humane endpoints in animals used in teaching and research, which make the performance of these activities mandatory for any experiment and professional working in this area. Assigning the severity of a research experiment is the result of an analysis of records of observations of the animal’s behavior, and clinical signs. The aim of this study was to describe the importance of carrying out a severity assessment associated with clinical and behavioral monitoring of rodents and rabbits during experimentation to maintain the welfare of these animals undergoing scientific research. Methods: The literature search was carried out using the following terms: “Monitoring”;“Humane endpoints”;“Animal welfare”, “Rodents”;“Rabbits”, and as connectors “and”;“or”, in the following databases: PubMed;LILACs/BIReMe and scieLO. Results: A total of 987 articles were identified in the databases, and 20 of these studies were included in this review. Conclusions: Humane endpoint protocols and procedure severity tables are of the utmost importance, both from an ethical point and to refine the results of research conducted on laboratory animals. They should be drawn up jointly by the teams responsible for the project and the maintenance of the animals during the research period, and the data obtained should be published so that the scientific community can have access to it, helping to disseminate these practices, as well as helping to draw up new procedures. Monitoring and evaluating the welfare and clinical condition of animals undergoing scientific research procedures is the responsibility of the professors, researchers, veterinarians, and animal facility coordinators.
