Small ubiquitin-like modifier(SUMO)e3 ligases that facilitate the conjugation of SUMO proteins to target substrates contain an SP-RING domain which is like the RING domain found in ubiquitin e3 *** this study,we isolated and characterized the Oryza sativa protein inhibitor of activated STAT like1(OsPIAL1)containing SP-RING domains,as the rice homolog of Arabidopsis ***1 interacts with OsSUMO proteins but does not interact with rice SUMO-conjugating enzymes(OsSCes).An analysis of transgenic rice plant shows that OsPIAL1 is involved in SUMO conjugation to SCes but not in SUMO conjugation to *** addition,this OsPIAL1 activity requires drought stress *** profiles show that the OsPIAL1 gene is induced by only drought stress in the leaves,whereas it is repressed by ABA and abiotic stresses in the *** stress leads to the fastest decrease in OsPIAL1 transcripts in the ***,the stress experiments indicate that the transgenic rice plants overexpressing OsPIAL1 exhibit a drought stress-tolerant phenotype but a salt stress hypersensitive *** results and those from Arabidopsis pial mutants suggest that PIALs act as a positive regulator in the drought stress response but as a negative regulator in the salt stress response.

We study the minimizers of the Ginzburg-Landau model for variable thickness, superconducting, thin films with high k, placed in an applied magnetic field hex, when hex is of the order of the ＂first critical field＂, i.e. of the order of ｜lnε｜. We obtain the asymptotic estimates of minimal energy and describe the possible locations of the vortices.

Integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) has been proposed as a concept that combines the cultivation of fed aquaculture species (e.g., finfish/shrimp) with extractive aquaculture species (e.g., shellfish/seaweed). In seaweed-based integrated aquaculture, seaweeds have the capacity to reduce the environmental impact of nitrogen-rich effluents on coastal ecosystems. Thus, selection of optimal species for such aquaculture is of great importance. The present study aimed to develop a seaweed species-selection index for selecting suitable species in seaweed-based integrated aquaculture system. The index was synthesized using available literature-based information, reference data, and physiological seaweed experiments to identify and prioritize the desired species. Undaria pinnatifida, Porphyra yezoensis and Ulva compressa scored the highest according to a seaweed-based integrated aquaculture suitability index (SASI). Seaweed species with the highest scores were adjudged to fit the integrated aquaculture systems. Despite the application of this model limited by local aquaculture environment, it is considered to be a useful tool for selecting seaweed species in IMTA.

The intermediate phase formation and surface protection effects between SKD61 die mold alloys and aluminum alloys were investigated during a simulated die-casting *** surface coatings of SKD61 alloy were carried out via Si pack cementation coatings at 900 ℃ for 10 h and the ε-FeSi phase *** the coated SKD61 alloy was dipped in the liquid aluminum alloy(ALDC12),the surface coated SKD61 alloys showed better surface properties compared with uncoated SKD61 alloys,i.e.,the intermediate phases(FeSiAl compound) were not produced for the coated SKD61 *** coating layer of ε-FeSi served as a diffusion barrier for the formation of FeSiAl compounds.

Prostaglandin e2 （PGe2） is known to have a key role in the development of colorectal cancer, but previous experiments showed its contrasting （i.e. tumor-promoting or tu mor-suppressive） roles depending on experimental conditions. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying such contrasting roles of PG e2 in tumorigenesis, we investigated all the previous experiments and found a new signal transduction pathway mediated by retinoic acid receptor-related orphan receptor （ROR）α, in which PGe2/PKCα-dependent phosphorylation of RORα attenuates Wnt target gene expression in colon cancer ceils. From mathematical simulations combined with biochemical experimentation, we revealed that RORα induces a biphasic response of Wnt target genes to PGe2 stimulation through a regulatory switch formed by an incoherent feedforward loop, which provides a mechanistic explanation on the contrasting roles of PGe2 observed in previous experiments. More interestingly, we found that RORα constitutes another regulatory switch formed by coupled positive and negative feedback loops, which regulates the hysteretic response of Wnt signaling and eventually converts a proliferative cellular state into an anti-proliferative state in a very delicate way. Our results indicate that RORα is the key regulator at the center of these hidden switches that critically regulate cancer celt proliferation and thereby being a promising anti-cancer therapeutic target.

Aim: Maxillary dental arch widths were evaluated in individuals having unilateral (UCLP) and bilateral (BCLP) cleft lip and palate (CLP) using three-dimensional (3D) digital models. Material and Method: The study had been conducted on 80 individuals aged between 14 - 17 years having UCLP and BCLP. 40 of the individuals had UCLP, whereas 40 had BCLP. The maxillary dental models taken from patients before the treatment were scanned using Orthomodel Programme (v.1.01, Orthomodel Inc., Istanbul, Turkey) to obtain 3D imagery. Student’s t-test was used in order to assess the data obtained by using SPSS software version 22.0. Results: In BCLP, the average inter-canine distance was 17.44 ± 1.31 mm, the average inter-molar distance was 36.57 ± 1.12 mm, while inter-canine/inter-molar ratio was 0.47. Whereas in UCLP, it was 25.10 ± 0.63 mm, 42.20 ± 0.53 mm and 0.59. The inter-canine distance in UCLP was found to be large enough to be statistically significant (p 0.05), even though there were differences in inter-molar widths. Conclusion: For the stable orthodontic treatment results, one of the most important points is arch form and widths to be coherent with each other. In our study, the increase of inter-canine distance seen in UCLP indicates that in the cleft region, the maxillary arch is inclined over to the back, while the same situation in BCLP suggests that the maxillary segments are collapsed inside. The difference in the arch is highly affected by the primary surgical treatment.

Food waste is recognized as a valuable source for potential agricultural applications to supply organic matter and nutrients to arable ***,the information on the combined application of food waste and the plant growth-promoting bacterial strain,Chlorella,related to plant metabolic features and sodium chloride content in arable soil is *** present study was conducted to investigate the exogenous application of food waste along with Chlorella,which improved the physio-morphological features of red *** results revealed that this combination enhanced the organic matter in the soil,ultimately improving the fertility rate of the soil,and the physio-morphological features,such as chlorophyll a content(24.5±0.7),root(7.8±0.7)cm and shoot length(12.1±0.7)cm,fresh weight(2.1±0.05)g,dry weight(0.19±0.05)g,mineral contents,and hormonal concentration(ABA by up to 2 folds).The combined treatment also minimized free radicals via the activation of the intrinsic antioxidant series cascade and electrolyte *** findings showed that adding Chlorella and food wastes improved growth characteristics and can be used as a green bio-fertilizer for sustainable agriculture.

AIM To investigate histologic abnormalities in the gastric smooth muscle of patients with diabetes mellitus(DM).MeTHODS Full-thickness gastric specimens were obtained from patients undergoing surgery for gastric cancer. H&e stain and Masson's Trichrome stain were performed to assess the degree of fibrosis. Immunohistochemical staining using various antibodies was also performed [antibodies against protein gene product 9.5(PGP9.5), neuronal nitric oxide synthase(n NOS), vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP), neurokinin-1(NK1) receptor, c-Kit, and platelet-derived growth factor receptor-alpha,(PDGFRα)]. Immunofluorescent staining and evaluation with confocal microscopy were also *** Twenty-six controls and 35 diabetic patients(21 shortduration patients and 14 long-duration patients) were included. There were no significant differences in basic demographics between the two groups except in mean body mass index(BMI)(higher in the DM group). Proportions of moderate-to-severe intercellular fibrosis in the muscle layer were significantly higher in the DM group than in the control group(P emical staining, c-Kit- and PDGFRα-positive immunoreactivity were significantly decreased in the DM group compared with the control group(P ere were no statistically significant differences in PGP9.5, n NOS, VIP, and neurokinin 1 expression. On immunofluorescent staining, cellularity of interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC) was observed to decrease with increasing duration of *** Our study suggests that increased intercellular fibrosis, loss of ICC, and loss of fibroblast-like cells are found in the smooth muscle of DM patients. These abnormalities may contribute to changes in gastric motor activity in patients with DM.
