Alteration of functional connectivity in patients with Alzheimer’s disease revealed by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging

The main symptom of patients with Alzheimer’s disease is cognitive dysfunction. Alzheimer’s disease is mainly diagnosed based on changes in brain structure. Functional connectivity reflects the synchrony of functional activities between non-adjacent brain regions, and changes in functional connectivity appear earlier than those in brain structure. In this study, we detected resting-state functional connectivity changes in patients with Alzheimer’s disease to provide reference evidence for disease prediction. Functional magnetic resonance imaging data from patients with Alzheimer’s disease were used to show whether particular white and gray matter areas had certain functional connectivity patterns and if these patterns changed with disease severity. In nine white and corresponding gray matter regions, correlations of normal cognition, early mild cognitive impairment, and late mild cognitive impairment with blood oxygen level-dependent signal time series were detected. Average correlation coefficient analysis indicated functional connectivity patterns between white and gray matter in the resting state of patients with Alzheimer’s disease. Functional connectivity pattern variation correlated with disease severity, with some regions having relatively strong or weak correlations. We found that the correlation coefficients of five regions were 0.3–0.5 in patients with normal cognition and 0–0.2 in those developing Alzheimer’s disease. Moreover, in the other four regions, the range increased to 0.45–0.7 with increasing cognitive impairment. In some white and gray matter areas, there were specific connectivity patterns. Changes in regional white and gray matter connectivity patterns may be used to predict Alzheimer’s disease;however, detailed information on specific connectivity patterns is needed. All study data were obtained from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative Library of the Image and Data Archive Database.

tRNA-derived small RNAs(tsRNAs)are novel non-coding RNAs that are involved in the occurrence and progression of diverse ***,their exact presence and function in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)remain ***,differentially expressed tsRNAs in HCC were profiled.A novel tsRNA,tRNAGln-TTG derived 5′-tiRNA-Gln,is significantly downregulated,and its expression level is correlated with progression in *** HCC cells,5′-tiRNA-Gln overexpression impaired the proliferation,migration,and invasion in vitro and in vivo,while 5′-tiRNA-Gln knockdown yielded opposite results.5′-tiRNA-Gln exerted its function by binding eukaryotic initiation factor 4A-I(EIF4A1),which unwinds complex RNA secondary structures during translation initiation,causing the partial inhibition of *** suppressed downregulated proteins include ARAF,MEK1/2 and STAT3,causing the impaired signaling pathway related to HCC ***,based on the construction of a mutant 5′-tiRNA-Gln,the sequence of forming intramolecular G-quadruplex structure is crucial for 5′-tiRNA-Gln to strongly bind EIF4A1 and repress ***,5′-tiRNA-Gln expression level is negatively correlated with ARAF,MEK1/2,and STAT3 in HCC ***,these findings reveal that 5′-tiRNA-Gln interacts with EIF4A1 to reduce related mRNA binding through the intramolecular Gquadruplex structure,and this process partially inhibits translation and HCC progression.

Photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2) into small-molecule chemical feedstocks can meet the growing demand for energy and alleviate the global warming. Herein, a p-n ZnO@CDs@Co_(3)O_(4) heterojunction with sandwich structure was constructed by calcination method of self-assembled ZIF-8@CDs@ZIF-67. The ZnO@CDs@Co_(3)O_(4) with well-defined interfacial structure exhibited the significantly enhanced photocatalytic CO_(2) reduction activity, and the optimal catalyst indicated the(CO + CH_(4)) evolution rate of 214.53μmol g^(-1)h^(-1) under simulated solar light, which was superior to ZnO, Co_(3)O_(4) and binary ZnO@Co_(3)O_(4).The internal cavity, exposed active sites, multiple interfaces and constructed p-n heterojunction can facilitate the light harvesting and photoexcited electron transfer. Besides, after introduction of CDs placed in the middle layer between ZnO and Co_(3)O_(4), CDs with excellent photoelectric property further promoted charge separation and migration. This work represents an appealing strategy to construct well-defined photocatalysts for boosting CO_(2) photoreduction.

Virulence changes in Vibrio parahaemolyticus during the freezing of Penaeus chinensis

Although Vibrio parahaemolyticus has become the most common pathogen in fresh and frozen seafood,its virulence changes have often been ignored during the processing of *** investigate these potential risks,we used frozen Penaeus chinensis as examples,and the most virulent factors of ***,including amounts,viable but nonculturable(VBNC)status,toxins TDH and TRH,and virulence genes tdh and trh,were *** quantities were signifi cantly reduced during drain and sprinkling phases,but caused by different *** SYTO9 and PI staining showed that washing was the main reason for the bacterial reduction at the drain phase,while the strain entering VBNC state was another reason at sprinkling *** hemolysis toxicity,produced by TDH and TRH,became stronger after inoculation on shrimp,and could be detected throughout the ***,tdh and trh also exhibited trends similar to that of the hemolysis toxicity *** was almost to a two-fold expression level during ice-glazing phase,while trh only express at a low level,less than half of the expression level before *** results demonstrated that the strains were not dead during freezing process,but became VBNC cells,which still produced and accumulated toxins,especially TDH,the most virulent factor.

Surgical electrodes rely on thermal effect of high-frequency current and are a widely used medical tool for cutting and coagulating biological ***,tissue adhesion on the electrode surface and thermal injury to adjacent tissue are serious problems in surgery that can affect cutting performance.A bionic microstriped structure mimicking a banana leaf was constructed on the electrode via nanosecond laser surface texturing,followed by silanization treatment,to enhance *** effect of initial,simple grid-textured,and bionic electrodes with different wettabilities on tissue adhesion and thermal injury were investigated using horizontal and vertical cutting *** showed that the bionic electrode with high lyophobicity can effectively reduce tissue adhesion mass and thermal injury depth/area compared with the initial *** formation mechanism of adhered tissue was discussed in terms of morphological features,and the potential mechanism for antiadhesion and heat dissipation of the bionic electrode was ***,we evaluated the influence of groove depth on tissue adhesion and thermal injury and then verified the antiadhesion stability of the bionic *** study demonstrates a promising approach for improving the cutting performance of surgical electrodes.

Cadmium(Cd)contamination in paddy soils means that the rice produced there may be unsafe for human consumption.A hydroponic study was conducted to enrich rice seedlings with zinc(Zn)or manganese(Mn),and the uptake and transport characteristics of Cd in these Zn-and Mn-rich seedlings were subsequently investigated using a greenhouse pot *** results showed that hydroponic cultivation in 10-50μmol L^(-1) Zn(ZnSO_(4)·7 H_(2)O)or50-250μmol L^(-1) Mn(MnSO_(4)·H_(2)O)for 30 d had no significant impact on rice growth,while the accumulation of Zn and Mn was 7.31-18.5 and 25.4-47.7 times higher,respectively,than in the control(no Zn or Mn addition).The accumulation of Cd in the Zn-and Mn-rich rice plants was 26.3%-38.6% and 34.4%-44.5% lower than that in the control,respectively,and the translocation factors of Cd from roots to shoots also decreased by 23.3%-41.3% and 25.3%-37.0%,respectively,after transplanting to Cd-contaminated ***,the relative expression levels of OsIRT1(Oryza sativa iron-regulated transporter 1)were downregulated by 40.1%-59.3% and 16.0%-25.9%,respectively,in the Zn-and Mn-rich seedling *** downregulation may indicate a possible mechanism contributing to the reductions in Cd *** experiments confirmed that the Zn-and Mn-rich seedlings produced brown rice(unpolished rice grains)with significantly decreased concentrations of Cd(34.2%-44.4%).This study provides an innovative method for reducing the food safety risks from rice grown on slightly to moderately Cd-contaminated paddy soils.
