CD55 Variant Associated with Pegylated-interferonαTherapy Response in HBeAg-positive Chronic Hepatitis B Patients

Background and Aims:Only a small percentage of chronic hepatitis B(CHB)patients effectively respond to treatment with pegylated-interferon alpha(PegIFNα)or nucleos(t)ide analogues(NUCs).We aimed to detect the correlations of complement regulators-associated single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)with treatment response of hepatitis B e antigen(HBeAg)-positive CHB ***:A total of 1,763 HBeAg-positive CHB patients were enrolled,894 received PegIFNαfor at least 48 weeks and were followed up for 24 weeks,and 869 received NUCs for 104 *** each patient,nine SNPs in genes encoding for complement regulators were determined and *** assess the cumulative effect of numerous SNPs,a polygenic score(PGS)was *** correlations of SNPs and PGS with the levels of combined response(CR)and hepatitis B s antigen(HBsAg)loss were also ***:In PegIFNα-treated patients,an intronic SNP of CD55,rs28371597,was strongly related to CR,and the CR rate in rs28371597_GG genotype carriers was only approximately half that of rs28371597_GT/TT genotype carriers(20.29%vs.37.10%,p=2.00×10^(−3)).A PGS incorporating CD55_rs28371597 and two additional SNPs,CFB_rs12614 and STAT4_rs7574865,which had been considered as predictors for PegIFNαtreatment response before,was strongly correlated with the levels of CR(ptrend=7.94×10^(−6))and HBsAg loss(p-trend=9.40×10^(−3))in PegIFNα-treated *** NUCs-treated individuals,however,none of the nine SNPs were shown to be significantly linked to CHB treatment ***:CD55_rs28371597 is a promising biomarker for predicting CHB patients’responsiveness to PegIFNα*** updated PGS may be used for optimizing CHB treatment.

TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism is associated with esophageal cancer risk:A meta-analysis

AIM:To investigate the association between TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and esophageal cancer(EC)risk using meta-analysis. METHODS:All eligible studies published before March 1,2010 were selected by searching PubMed using keywords"p53"or"TP53","polymorphism"or"variation", "esophageal"and"cancer"or"carcinoma".Crude odds ratios(ORs)with 95%confidence intervals(CIs)were assessed for EC risk associated with TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism using fixed-and random-effects models. RESULTS:Nine case-control studies involving 5545 subjects were included in this *** reduced risk of EC was associated with TP53genotypes for Arg/Arg+Arg/Pro vs Pro/Pro(OR= 0.73,95%CI:0.57-0.94,P=0.014).Subgroup analyses according to the source of controls and the specimens used for determining TP53 Arg72Pro genotypes or sample size showed that significantly reduced risk was observed only in studies which have populationbased controls(Arg/Arg vs Pro/Pro:OR=0.56,95% CI:0.47-0.66,Pde at least 200 subjects(Arg/Arg vs Pro/Pro:OR=0.56,95%CI:0.47-0.65,Pdesigned studies also supported the significantly decreased risk of EC(Arg/Arg vs Pro/Pro:OR=0.54,95%CI:0.46-0.64,Pdecreased EC ***,more welldesigned studies are needed to confirm our findings.

BACKGROUND Disease-related single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)based genetic risk score(GRS)has been proven to provide independent inherited risk other than family history in multiple cancer *** To evaluate the potential of GRS in the prediction of pancreatic cancer *** In this case-control study(254 cases and 1200 controls),we aimed to evaluate the association between GRS and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC)risk in the Chinese *** GRS was calculated based on the genotype information of 18 PDAC-related SNPs for each study subject(personal genotyping information of the SNPs)and was weighted by external odd ratios(ORs).RESULTS GRS was significantly different in cases and controls(1.96±3.84 in PDACs vs 1.09±0.94 in controls,Pdence interval(CI):1.13-1.34,Pkely to have PDAC(OR:1.99,95%CI:1.30-3.04,P=0.002).Participants with intermediate GRS(1.0-1.9)were 39%more likely to have PDAC(OR:1.39,95%CI:1.03-1.84,P=0.031).A positive trend was observed(P trend=0.0006).CONCLUSION GRS based on PDAC-associated SNPs could provide independent information on PDAC risk and may be used to predict a high risk PDAC population.

GSW3.1,a novel gene controlling grain size and weight in rice

Grain size and weight are closely related traits determining yield in rice(Oryza sativa L.).Since indica and japonica rice varieties differ significantly in multiple traits,a high-generation recombinant inbred line(RIL)population derived from the crossing LH9(indica)and RPY(japonica)was used to map grainrelated traits in six *** of the quantitative trait loci(QTL)for thousand-grain weight showed that combinations of multiple QTL significantly increased the phenotypic effect.A novel gene named GSW3.1 controlling grain size and weight was discovered using the major QTL for the colocalization of grain width and thousand-grain weight on chromosome *** editing revealed that GSW3.1(LOC_Os03g16850)was pleiotropic,positively regulating grain size and weight while affecting several other agronomic *** analysis indicated that some traits,including grain width and weight,were highly correlated with indica-japonica differentiation.

Bunching enhancement for coherent harmonic generation by using phase merging effects

In this paper,promising but simple schemes are investigated to enhance the micro-bunching of relativistic electron beams for coherent harmonic generation(CHG)by using phase merging *** contrast to the standard CHG scheme,two specially designed dispersion sections(DSs)are adopted with the DS-modulator–DS *** phase space of the e beam is appropriately coupled in the first DS,and the electrons within one seed wavelength can merge to the same phase with a matched second ***-bunching of the e beam can thus be enhanced by a large margin with much higher-harmonic *** e beams from laser wakefield accelerators(LWFAs)as an example,start-to-end simulations are performed to show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed schemes with several *** beam current can be optimized to several tens to hundreds of kiloamperes,and the radiation power reaches hundreds of megawatts in the extreme ultraviolet regime within a 3.5 m-long *** proposed schemes offer new opportunities for future compact free-electron lasers driven by LWFAs and provides prospects for truly compact and widely applicable systems.

Tunable topological polaritons by dispersion tailoring of an active metasurface

Hyperbolic polaritons are known to exist in materials with extreme anisotropy,exhibiting exotic optical properties that enable a plethora of unusual phenomena in the fields of polaritonics and ***,achieving simultaneous low-dimensionality,high-speed controllability,and on-demand reconfigurability of the polaritons remains unexplored despite their excellent potential in light-matter interactions,photonic integrated circuits,and optoelectronic ***,we propose a metasurface approach to integrating artificially engineered electromagnetic anisotropy with fast-controllable electronic elements,offering a new route to realize active topological *** showcase the proposed reconfigurable metasurface can support real-time transitions of designer polaritons from elliptical to flat,and then to hyperbolic and circular isofrequency ***,the in-plane surface wavefront undergoes the transitions from convex to collimating,concave,and eventually back to *** exploiting the topological variations in polariton dispersions,we observe intriguing phenomena of controllable field canalization and tunable planar ***,we report the concept of a planar reconfigurable integrated polariton circuit by spatially tailoring the distributions of polariton isofrequency contours,unveiling rich dispersion engineering possibilities and active control *** may provide an inspiring platform for developing planar active plasmonic devices with potential applications in subdiffraction-resolution imaging,sensing,and information processing.

Cathode interfacial materials(CIMs)stand as critical elemental in organic solar cells(OSCs),which can align energy levels,and foster ohmic contacts between the cathode and active layer of the ***,the lagging advancement in CIMs has concurrently engendered the oversight of theoretical inquiries pertaining to the impact of molecular structure on their *** into this realm,we present two propeller-shaped isomers,4,4',4''-(benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b':5,6-b'']trithiophene-2,5,8-triyl)tris(2-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione)(3ONIN)and 6,6',6''-(benzo[1,2-b:3,4-b':5,6-b'']trithiophene-2,5,8-triyl)tris(2-(3-(dimethylamino)propyl)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione)(3PNIN),distinguished by their molecular planarity,as a promising foundation for crafting highly efficient *** study illuminates the superiority of 3PNIN with more plane structure,exemplified by its enhanced molar extinction coefficient,deeper lowest unoccupied molecular orbital(LUMO)and highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)energy levels,intensified self-doping effect,heightened electron mobility,and elevated conductivity,in comparison to its counterpart,*** a result,3PNIN and 3ONIN-treated OSC devices yield efficiencies of 17.73%and 16.82%,*** finding serves as a compelling validation of the critical role played by molecular planarity in influencing CIM performance.
