Reverse-Time Migration from Rugged Topography to Image Ground-Penetrating Radar Data in Complex Environments

Simulation of multiple scattering of seismic waves by spatially distributed inclusions

A 2D elastodynamic boundary element method (BEM) is used to solve multiple scattering of elastic waves. The method is based on the integral representation of an elastic wave-field by assuming a fictitious source distribution on the scattering objects or inclusions, i.e. a mathematical description of huygens’ principle, and the fictitious source distribution can be found by matching appropriate boundary conditions at the boundary of the inclusions. Numerical studies show that in the presence of cracks, spatial and scale-length distributions are important and different spatial arrangements of the same scatters lead to profound differences in scattering characteristics, in particular the frequency contents of the transmitted wave-fields. The frequency characteristics, such as the frequency of peak attenuation , can be related to spatial size parameters of the model.

Therapeutic uses of animal biles in traditional Chinese medicine:An ethnopharmacological,biophysical chemical and medicinal review

Forty-four different animal biles obtained from both invertebrates and vertebrates (including human bile) have been used for centuries for a h.st of maladies in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) beginning with dog, ox and common carp biles approximately in the Zhou dynasty (c. 1046-256 BCE). Overall, different animal biles were prescribed principally for the treatment of liver, biliary, skin (including burns), gynecological and heart diseases, as well as diseases of the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and throat. We present an informed opinion of the clinical efficacy of the medicinal uses of the different animal biles based on their presently known principal chemical components which are mostly steroidal detergent-like molecules and the membrane lipids such as unesterified cholesterol and mixed phosphatidylcholines and sometimes sphingomyelin, as well as containing lipopigments derived from heme principally bilirubin glucuronides. All of the available information on the ethnopharmacological uses of biles in TCM were collated from the rich collection of ancient Chinese books on materia medica held in libraries in China and United states and the composition of various animal biles was based on rigorous separatory and advanced chemical identification techniques published since the mid-20th century collected via library (harvard’s Countway Library) and electronic searches (PubMed and Google Scholar). Our analysis of ethnomedical data and information on biliary chemistry shows that specific bile salts, as well as the common bile pigment bilirubin and its glucuronides plus the minor components of bile such as vitamins A, D, E, K, as well as melatonin (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine) are salutary in improving liver function, dissolving gallstones, inhibiting bacterial and viral multiplication, promoting cardiac chronotropsim, as well as exhibiting anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anti-oxidant, sedative, anti-convulsive, anti-allergic, anti-congestive, anti-diabe

Mitigation of the large scale yellow dust storm is a serious problem facing China. We propose the approach of building windbreak walls equipped with solar panels in the proximity of dust origins. The solar panels generate electricity in the sunny days; the walls break the wind and remove airborne dusts based on the impactor principle during wind storms. Preliminary calculation indicates the walls may be able to remove the major fraction of the airborne dusts and the generated electricity could be significant. More detailed studies are needed to prove the feasibility of the approach.

MicroBTC:Efficient,Flexible and Fair Micropayment for Bitcoin Using hash Chains

While Bitcoin gains increasing popularity in different payment scenarios,the transaction fees make it difficult to be applied to *** the wide applicability of micropayment,it is crucial for all cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin to provide effective support *** light of this,a number of low-cost micropayment schemes for Bitcoin have been proposed recently to reduce micropayment *** schemes,however,suffer from drawbacks such as high computation cost,inflexible payment value,and possibly unfair *** paper proposes two new micropayment schemes,namely the basic MicroBTC and the advanced MicroBTC,for Bitcoin by integrating the hash chain technique into cryptocurrency *** basic MicroBTC realizes micropayment by exposing hash pre-images on the hash chain one by one,and it can also make arbitrary micropayments by exposing multiple hash *** further design the advanced MicroBTC to achieve non-interactive refund and efficient hash chain *** analyze the complexity and security of the both MicroBTC schemes and implement them using the Bitcoin source *** experiments were conducted to validate their performance,and the result showed that a micropayment session can be processed within about 18 ms for the basic MicroBTC and 9 ms for the advanced MicroBTC on a *** schemes enjoy great efficiency in computation and flexibility in micropayments,and they also achieve fairness for both the payer and the payee.
