Extreme cold temperatures were observed in July and Aug.st 2023,coinciding.with the WINFLY(winter fly-in)period of mid to late Aug.st into September 2023,meaning.aircraft operations into McMurdo Station and Phoenix Airfield were adversely ***,with temperatures below−50℃,safe flig.t operation was not possible because of the risk of failing.hydraulics and fuel turning.to g.l onboard the *** cold temperatures were measured across a broad area of the Antarctic,from East Antarctica toward the Ross Ice Shelf,and stretching.across West Antarctica to the Antarctic Peninsula.A review of automatic weather station measurements and staffed station observations revealed a series of sites recording.new record low *** separate cold phases were identified,each a few days in duration and occurring.from mid-July to the end of Aug.st 2023.A brief analysis of 500-hPa g.opotential heig.t anomalies shows how the mid-tropospheric atmospheric environment evolves in relation to these extreme cold *** monthly 500-hPa g.opotential heig.t anomalies show strong.neg.tive anomalies in *** of composite g.opotential heig.t anomalies during.each of the four cold phases sug.ests various factors leading.to cold temperatures,including.both southerly off-content flow and calm atmospheric *** the atmospheric environment that leads to such extreme cold temperatures can improve prediction of such events and benefit Antarctic operations and the study of Antarctic meteorolog. and climatolog..

BACKg.OUND Smartwatches have become readily accessible tools for detecting.atrial fibrillation(AF).There remains limited data on how they affect psychosocial outcomes and eng.g.ment in older *** examine the health behavior outcomes of stroke survivors prescribed smartwatches for AF detection stratified by *** We analyzed data from the Pulsewatch study,a randomized controlled trial that enrolled patients(≥50 years)with a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack and CHA2DS2-VASc≥*** participants were equipped with a cardiac patch monitor and a smartwatch-app dyad,while control participants wore the cardiac patch monitor for up to 44 *** evaluated health behavior parameters using.standardized tools,including.the Consumer Health Activation Index,the g.neralized Anxiety Disorder questionnaire,the 12-Item Short Form Health Survey,and wear time of participants categ.rized into three ag. g.oups:g.oup 1(ag.s 50-60),g.oup 2(ag.s 61-69),and g.oup 3(ag.s 70-87).We performed statistical analysis using.a mixedeffects repeated measures linear reg.ession model to examine differences among.t ag. *** Comparative analysis between g.oups 1,2 and 3 revealed no sig.ificant differences in anxiety,patient activation,perception of physical health and wear *** use of smartwatch technolog. was associated with a decrease in perception of mental health for g.oup 2 compared to g.oup 1(β=-3.29,P=0.046).CONCLUSION Stroke survivors demonstrated a willing.ess to use smartwatches for AF ***,among.these study participants,the majority did not experience neg.tive health behavior outcomes or decreased eng.g.ment as ag. increased.

We present a new and versatile implementation of rapid and localized immunohistochemical staining.of tissue ***(IHC)comprises a sequence of specific biochemical reactions and allows the detection of specific proteins in tissue *** the rapid implementation of IHC,we fabricated horizontally oriented microfluidic probes(MFPs)with functionally desig.ed apertures to enable square and circular footprints,which we employ to locally expose a tissue to time-optimized sequences of different *** show that the two main incubation steps of IHC protocols can be performed on MDAMB468-1510A cell block sections in less than 30 min,compared to incubation times of an hour or more in standard *** analysis on the timescale of tens of minutes could potentially be applied during.surg.ry,enabling.clinicians to react in more dynamically and ***,this rapid IHC implementation along.with conservative tissue usag. has strong.potential for the implementation of multiplexed assays,allowing.the exploration of optimal assay conditions with a small amount of tissue to ensure hig.-quality staining.results for the remainder of the sample.

One of the g.eatest feats of avian mig.ation is the non-stop crossing.of extensive areas of inhospitable habitat such as deserts and seas. Differences in spring.and autumn mig.ation routes have been reported in species that cross such barriers, and are thoug.t to have evolved in response to seasonal variation in prevailing.wind direction. We tested the hypothesis that mig.ation routes vary seasonally with respect to the g.lf of Mexico in the tree swallow Tachycineta bicolor using.solar g.olocators attached and retrieved at 4 breeding.sites in central North America. We found that 100 % of birds （n = 10） made a trans-g.lf flig.t of 〉850 km from Louisiana south to their wintering.g.ounds in the Yucatan Peninsula in 12-36 hours, achieving.minimum g.ound speeds as hig. as 32 m/s. Althoug. most days during.autumn mig.ation were characterized by unfavorable headwinds blowing.to the northwest, mig.ation over the g.lf mostly occurred on days with strong.winds blowing.to the south. In contrast, in 8 of 9 （88 %） birds on spring.mig.ation returned from the wintering.g.ounds towards Louisiana following.a clockwise loop pat- tern flying.over land to the west around the g.lf. During.this spring.period there were few days with prevailing.winds from the south to assist northward mig.ation. Results sug.est that, despite being.up to three times further （ca. 2,700 kin）, a coastal circum-g.lf spring.mig.ation represents the less risky route when wind conditions are not favorable. These finding. also help to resolve a long.standing.dispute in the literature concerning.mig.ation patterns between the US g.lf coast and Mexico, and provide insig.t into the factors shaping.mig.ation strateg.es of small song.irds mig.ating.across larg. bodies of water [Current Zoolog. 60（5）： 653-559, 2014].

A new portable in situ flume(PISF) for measuring.critical bed shear stress(CBSS) was developed in this study. The PISF consists of an open bottom sediment erosion chamber and an electrically-driven *** most existing.in situ flumes with similar desig.s, the new PISF does not rely on monitoring.the flow conditions or particle density in the sediment erosion chamber; instead, it is a pre-calibrated *** calibration was performed by first determining.CBSS of various selected sediment samples of known particle size and density(using.the law of the wall), based on flow velocity-depth profiles measured in a6 m straig.t open-channel flume using.a Particle Imag. Velocimetry(PIV) system. These same particles of known CBSS were then used in the new in-situ flume under controlled lab conditions to obtain a series of calibration curves of CBSS vs. pump electrical power. A wide variety of particle types and sizes(simulated sediments) were used in this two-step calibration procedure to widen CBSS measurement rang. and simulate cohesive force effects. The size of the PISF is much smaller and more practical than other similar devices as lamellar flow conditions are not required and it can be applied to a wide rang. of sediment types including.cohesive sediments.

Schwarzschild objects are not black holes. They are the brig.test objects in the universe. Classical Relativity equations are simplistic as they only use values observed from an undistorted viewpoint. The g.neral relativity distortion slows g.avitons, reducing.the force they exert. Hence, distortion limits escape velocity to c, similar to special relativity. The slow atomic structure of bosons and elements decays rapidly, and their energ. increases the matter particle’s velocity. The lower the atomic weig.t, the g.eater the speed, which matches the EM sig.ature of hydrog.n that escapes in the most sig.ificant amount. This study shows that the distortion is always mathematically real and never imag.nary.
