Silicon technology offers the enticing opportunity for monolithic integration of quantum and classical electronic ***,the power consumption levels of classical electronics may compromise the local chip temperature and hence affect the fidelity of qubit *** the current work,a quantum-dot-based thermometer embedded in an industry-standard silicon fieldeffect transistor(FET)was adopted to assess the local temperature increase produced by an active FET placed in close *** impact of both static and dynamic operation regimes was thoroughly *** the FET was operated statically,a power budget of 45 nW at 100-nm separation was found,whereas at 216μm,the power budget was raised to 150μ*** temperature increase for the switch frequencies tested up to 10 MHz was observed when operating *** current work introduced a method to accurately map out the available power budget at a distance from a solid-state quantum processor,and indicated the possible conditions under which cryoelectronics circuits may allow the operation of hybrid quantum-classical systems.

Aim:Despite aggressive multiagent protocols,patients with metastatic rhabdomyosarcoma(RMS)have poor *** a recent high-risk trial(ARST0431),25% of patients failed within the first year,while on therapy and 80% had tumor progression within 24 ***,the mechanisms for tumor resistance are essentially *** we explore the use of preclinical models to develop resistance to complex chemotherapy regimens used in ***:A Single Mouse Testing(SMT)protocol was used to evaluate the sensitivity of 34 RMS xenograft models to one cycle of vincristine,actinomycin D,cyclophosphamide(vAC)*** response was determined by caliper measurement,and tumor regression and event-free survival(EFS)were used as endpoints for *** tumors at regrowth were transplanted into recipient mice,and the treatment was repeated until tumors progressed during the treatment period(i.e.,became resistant).At transplant,tumor tissue was stored for biochemical and omics ***:The sensitivity to vAC of 34 RMS models was *** varied from 3 weeks to>20 *** models were classified as having intrinsic resistance,intermediate sensitivity,or high sensitivity to vAC *** to vAC was developed in multiple models after 2-5 cycles of therapy;however,there were examples where sensitivity remained unchanged after 3 cycles of ***:The SMT approach allows for in vivo assessment of drug sensitivity and development of drug resistance in a large number of RMS *** such,it provides a platform for assessing in vivo drug resistance mechanisms at a“population”level,simulating conditions in vivo that lead to clinical *** vAC-resistant models represent“high-risk”tumors that mimic a preclinical phase 2 population and will be valuable for identifying novel agents active against vAC-resistant disease.

Laser-assisted gas nitriding of selective Ti-6Al-4v surfaces has been achieved during laser powder bed fusion fabrication by exchanging the argon build gas environment with *** variation of processing parameters allowed microdendritic Ti N surface coatings to be formed having thicknesses ranging from a few tens of microns to several hundred microns,with TiN dendrite microstructure volume fractions ranging from 0.6 to 0.75;and corresponding vickers microindentation hardness values ranging from^7.5 GPa–9.5 *** TiN hard layers ranging from 50μm to 150μm thick were also fabricated in the laser-beam additively manufactured Ti-6Al-4v alloy producing prototype,hybrid,planar composites having alternating,ductile Ti-6Al-4v layers with a hardness of^4.5 GPa and a stiff,TiN layer with a hardness of^8.5 *** results demonstrate prospects for fabricating novel,additively manufactured components having selective,hard,wear and corrosion resistant coatings along with periodic,planar or complex metal matrix composite regimes exhibiting superior toughness and related mechanical properties.

In 2003, under the auspices of the main UK funders of biological and biomedical research, a working group was established with a remit to review potential welfare issues for genetically altered (GA) mice, to summarize current practice, and to recommend contemporary best practi。ce for welfare assessments。The working group has produced a report which makes practical recommendations for GA mouse welfare assessment and dissemination of welfare information between establishments using a 'mouse passport'。The report can be found at www。nc3rs, org。uk/GAmice and www。lal。org。uk/gaa and includes templates for the recommended welfare assessment scheme and the mouse passport。An overview is provided below。

Objective: To determine if exposure to more than one course of antenatal gluco cortlcoids is associated with changes in infant blood pressure and myocardial wa ll thickness in the first month after birth. Design: Prospective cohort study. S etting: Tertiary neonatal intensive care unit. Participants: Mothers who were el igible for but declined to enter a randomised trial of repeated doses of antenat al glucocorticoids (ACTORDS)-that is, who had a singleton, twin, or triplet pre gnancy at ved an initial course of glucocorticoid s seven or more days previously, and were considered to be at continued risk of preterm birth. Main outcome measures: Blood pressure daily for the first week th en weekly until 4 weeks of age. End diastolic interventricular septal and left v entricular posterior wall (EDIvS and EDLvPW) thickness at 48-72 hours after bir th. Results: Thirty seven women were enrolled and delivered 50 infants. Thirty m others (39 infants) were exposed to one course of glucocorticoids, and seven mot hers (11 infants) to more than one course. Blood pressures were higher in the fi rst week after birth in infants exposed to multiple courses of glucocorticoids, and in infants with a latency between last exposure and delivery of less than se ven days. Systolic blood pressure on day 1 was > 2SD above published normal rang es in 67%of babies exposed to multiple courses and 24%of babies exposed to a s ingle course of glucocorticoids (p = 0.04). There was no difference between grou ps in thickness of the EDIvS or EDLvPW. However, 44/50 (88%) babies had EDIvS a nd 49/50 (98%) babies had EDLvPW thickness > 2 SD above the expected mean for b irth weight and gestation. EDIvS but not EDLvPW thickness increased with increas ing latency (mean 0.02 mm/day, P=0.03). Conclusion: Future randomised trials sho uld assess the long term effects of exposure to antenatal glucocorticoids, particularly multiple courses, on the cardiovascular status of the infan
