To investigate the reproducibility of the in vivo endoscopic ultrasound (eUS) - guided needle based confocal endomicroscopy (nCLe) image patterns in an ex vivo setting and compare these to surgical histopathology for characterizing pancreatic cystic lesions (pCLs).MeTHODSIn a prospective study evaluating eUS-nCLe for evaluation of pCLs, 10 subjects underwent an in vivo nCLe (AQ-Flex nCLe miniprobe; Cellvizio, MaunaKea, paris, France) during eUS and ex vivo probe based CLe (pCLe) of the pCL (Gastroflex ultrahigh definition probe, Cellvizio) after surgical resection. Biopsies were obtained from ex vivo CLe-imaged areas for comparative histopathology. All subjects received intravenous fluorescein prior to eUS and pancreatic surgery for in vivo and ex vivo CLe imaging *** total of 10 subjects (mean age 53 ± 12 years; 5 female) with a mean pCL size of 34.8 ± 14.3 mm were enrolled. Surgical histopathology confirmed 2 intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IpMNs), 3 mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCNs), 2 cystic neuroendocrine tumors (cystic-NeTs), 1 serous cystadenoma (SCA), and 2 squamous lined pCLs. Characteristic in vivo nCLe image patterns included papillary projections for IpMNs, horizon-type epithelial bands for MCNs, nests and trabeculae of cells for cystic-NeTs, and a “fern pattern” of vascularity for SCA. Identical image patterns were observed during ex vivo pCLe imaging of the surgically resected pCLs. Both in vivo and ex vivo CLe imaging findings correlated with surgical *** vivo nCLe patterns are reproducible in ex vivo pCLe for all major neoplastic pCLs. These findings add further support the application of eUS-nCLe as an imaging biomarker in the diagnosis of pCLs.

Impedance control is a well-established technique to control interaction forces in robotics. However, real imp.e.entations of impedance control with an inner loop may suffer from several limitations. In particular, the viable range of stable stiffness and damping values can be strongly affected by the bandwidth of the inner control loops （e.g., a torque loop） as well as by the filtering and sampling frequency. This paper provides an extensive analysis on how these aspects influence the stability region of impedance parameters as well as the passivity of the system. This will be supported by both simulations and experimental data. Moreover, a methodology for designing joint impedance controllers based on an inner torque loop and a positive velocity feedback loop will be p.e.ented. The goal of the velocity feedback is to increase （given the constraints to p.e.erve stability） the bandwidth of the torque loop without the need of a comp.e. controller.

pSGL-1, a specific ligand for p-, e- and L-selectin, was isolated from in vivo [3H]-glucosamine labeled HL- 60 cells by a combination of wheat germ agglutinin-agarose and p- or e-selectin-agarose chromatography. N- linked oligosaccharides were released from the purified, denatured ligand molecule by peptide: N-glycosidase F treatment and, following separation by Sephacryl S-200 chromatography, partially characterized using lectin, ion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography in combination with glycosidase digestions. The data obtained suggest that the N-glycans on pSGL-1 are p.e.ominantly core-fucosylated, multiatennary comp.e. type structures with extended, poly- N- acetyllactosamine contaniing outer chains. A portion of the outer chains ap.e.rs to be substituted with fucose indicating that the N-glycans, in addition to the O-glycans on pSGL-1, may be involved in selectin binding.

We propose that the level at which the conodont species Idiognathodus simulator （ellison 1941）（sensu stricto） first ap.e.rs be selected to mark the base of the Gzhelian Stage, because we believe that this is the optimal level by which this boundary can be correlated. This taxon has a short range and a wide distribution, as shown by correlation of glacial-eustatic cyclothems across the Kasimovian-Gzhelian boundary interval among Midcontinent North America and the Moscow and Donets basins of eastern europe, based on scale of the cyclothems along with several aspects of biostrati- graphy. Outside of these areas, I. simulator （sensu stricto） is known also from other parts of the U.S., and is reported from the southern Urals and south-central China in its expected position between other widesp.e.d taxa. Its first ap.e.rance is consistent with the current ammonoid placement of the boundary （first ap.e.rance of Shumardites cuyleri）, and it is also compatible with certain aspects of the distribution of eurasian fusulinid faunas （e.g., lectotype ofRauserites rossicus）.

Background: Cannulation of the common bile duct can be difficult in certain instances. Difficult cannulation has been demonstrated to be a risk factor for post-eRCp pancreatitis. We report a technique to facilitate difficult cannulation that uses a pancreatic-duct stent to guide biliary cannulation. Methods: A retrospective review of all eRCps performed at our institution from October 1, 2000 to June 30, 2004 (1638) was performed to identify all cases in which a pancreatic-duct stent was placed to guide common bile duct cannulation. Charts on these patients then were reviewed to assess cannulation success and complications. In addition, indications for the eRCp and p.e.iously failed cannulation attempts by outside physicians were documented. Observations: Thirty-nine patients had pancreatic-duct stents placed as an aid to guide common bile duct cannulation. Successful cannulation of the bile duct was achieved in 38 of the 39 patients (97.4% ) procedure-related pancreatitis occurred in two patients and was mild in both. There were no procedure-related deaths. Conclusions: In cases of difficult common bile duct cannulation, placement of a pancreatic-duct stent as a guide to aid common bile duct cannulation ap.e.rs to be an effective and safe technique.
