Assessing the energy saving potential of using adaptive setpoint temperatures:The case study of a regional adaptive comfort model for Brazil in both the present and the future

It has been found in recent years that using setpoint temperatures based on adaptive thermal comfort models is a successful method of energy *** studies using adaptive setpoint temperatures incorporate international models from AsHRAE standard 55 and *** study,however,has instead considered a regional Brazilian adaptive comfort *** study investigates the energy demand arising from the use of a local Brazilian comfort model in order to assess the energy implications from the use of the worldwide AsHRAE standard 55 adaptive model and various fixed setpoint *** of Brazil’s climate zones,full air-conditioning,mixed-mode building operating modes,present-day climate change scenarios,and future scenarios—specifically Representative Concentration Pathways(RCP)2.6,4.5,and 8.5 for the years 2050 and 2100—have all been taken into account in building energy *** use of adaptive setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local model considering mixed-mode has been found to significantly reduce energy consumption when compared to static setpoint temperatures(average energy-saving values ranging from 52%to 58%)and the AsHRAE 55 adaptive model(average values ranging from 15%to 21%).Considering climate change and the mixed-mode Brazilian model,the overall energy demand for the three groups of climatic zones(annual average outdoor temperatures≤21℃,>21 and≤25℃and>25℃)ranged between 2%decrease and 5%increase,4%and 27%increase,and 13%and 45%increase,*** is concluded as a consequence that setting setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local adaptive comfort model is a very efficient energy-saving method.

Translational pancreatic cancer research:a comparative study on patient-derived xenograft models

AIM To assess the viability of orthotopic and heterotopic patient-derived pancreatic cancer xenografts implanted into nude *** This study presents a prospective experimental analytical follow-up of the development of tumours in mice upon implantation of human pancreatic adenocarcinoma samples. specimens were obtained surgically from patients with a pathological diagnosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Tumour samples from pancreatic cancer patients were transplanted into nude mice in three different locations(intraperitoneal, subcutaneous and pancreatic). Histological analysis(haematoxylin-eosin and Masson's trichrome staining) and immunohistochemical assessment of apoptosis(TUNEL), proliferation(Ki-67), angiogenesis(CD31) and fibrogenesis(α-sMA) were performed. When a tumour xenograft reached the target size, it was reimplanted in a new nude mouse. Three sequential tumour xenograft generations were generated(F1, F2 and F3).REsULTs The overall tumour engraftment rate was 61.1%. The subcutaneous model was most effective in terms of tissue growth(69.9%), followed by intraperitoneal(57.6%) and pancreatic(55%) models. Tumour development was faster in the subcutaneous model(17.7 ± 2.6 wk) compared with the pancreatic(23.1 ± 2.3 wk) and intraperitoneal(25.0 ± 2.7 wk) models(P = 0.064). There was a progressive increase in the tumour engraftment rate over successive generations for all three models(F1 28.1% vs F2 71.4% vs F3 80.9%, P significant differences in tumour xenograft differentiation and cell proliferation between human samples and the three experimental models among the sequential generations of tumour xenografts. However, a progressive decrease in fibrosis, fibrogenesis, tumour vascularisation and apoptosis was observed in the three experimental models compared with the human samples. Aims: The present study aims to compare the assessment of work ability based on the use of the Work Ability Index (WAI) with another questionnaire base only on the use of WAI’s first item, termed as the “Work Ability score” (WAs). study design: A cohort of 384 spanish workers included in a Post COVID-19 condition or persistent COVID-19 multicenter research was utilized. Place and Duration of study: This cohort was enlisted in four hospitals (Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre, Madrid;Hospital Universitario Virgen Macarena, sevilla, Andalucía;Hospital Universitario Gregorio Marañón, Madrid and Complejo Asistencial Universitario de salamanca, Castilla y León), since 2021 until 2022. Methodology: 384 spanish workers (176 men and 208 women;aged 20 to 70 years) with Post COVID-19 condition or persistent COVID-19 were included. Descriptive analysis of primary scores was conducted. Given the non-normal distribution of data, the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were employed. spearman and Kendall correlations were employed to assess the relationship between WAI and WAs, also used weighted Kappa to estimate the degree agreement between WAI and WAs. Logistic regression models were utilized to study determinants influencing WAI and WAs, categorized as poor or moderate. Results: WAI had an average score of 32.98 (sD = 10.28), whereas WAs had an average of 5.95 (sD = 2.77). significant differences were observed in both WAI and WAs across the same variables. strong and statistically significant correlations were evident between WAI and WAs (rs = 0.83, p s used in the logistic regression model (gender, the sector employment, and previous chronic diseases) were statistically significant in both questionnaires. Conclusion: WAs questionnaire could be used as a tool for reliable assessment of work ability among spanish workers with Post COVID-19 condition or Persistent CO-VID-19.

Energy model based on solar potential and the production of electrical energy through living plants' photosynthesis

Developing a sustainable energy model is imperative considering the current trend towards decarbonizing sectors worldwide. For this purpose, Venezuela was used as a reference to propose an energy model focused on taking advantage of plant photosynthesis through microbial-vegetable fuel cells together with an agro-photovoltaic system to enhance energy and agricultural production. Energy production from the cells was estimated using an average power density of 264 mW/m(2) over 4% of the areas destined for crops in the entire Venezuelan region, obtaining an annual production of 19.889 GWh/year. In contrast, the energy production of the agro-photovoltaic system was modelled using PVsyst software on 50% of the area used for the cells distributed throughout the states of Anzo & aacute;tegui, Gu & aacute;rico, Monagas and Portuguesa according to their meteorological conditions, solar irradiation and agricultural activity, resulting in 3 703 417 GWh/year. The resulting whole system proved to be able to cover >10 times the installed electricity generation capacity at a national level and, together with the tremendous scalability of the microbial fuel cells, it shows that Venezuela has a high potential for the production and distribution of clean energy.
