The development of 3D spiral microfluidics has opened new avenues for leveraging inertial focusing to analyze small fluid volumes,thereby advancing research across chemical,physical,and biological *** traditional straight microchannels rely solely on inertial lift forces,the novel spiral geometry generates Dean drag forces,eliminating the necessity for external fields in fluid ***,fabricating 3D spiral microfluidics remains a labor-intensive and costly endeavor,hindering its widespread ***,conventional lithographic methods primarily yield 2D planar devices,thereby limiting the selection of materials and geometrical *** address these challenges,this work introduces a streamlined fabrication method for 3D spiral microfluidic devices,employing rotational force within a miniaturized thermal drawing process,termed as *** innovation allows for rapid prototyping of twisted fiber-based microfluidics featuring versatility in material selection and heightened geometric *** validate the performance of these devices,we combined computational modeling with microtomographic particle image velocimetry(uTpiM)to comprehensively characterize the 3D flow *** results corroborate the presence of a steady secondary flow,underscoring the effectiveness of our *** 3D spiral microfluidics platform paves the way for exploring intricate microflow dynamics,with promising applications in areas such as drug delivery,diagnostics,and lab-on-a-chip systems.

It has been found in recent years that using setpoint temperatures based on adaptive thermal comfort models is a successful method of energy *** studies using adaptive setpoint temperatures incorporate international models from ASHraE Standard 55 and *** study,however,has instead considered a regional Brazilian adaptive comfort *** study investigates the energy demand arising from the use of a local Brazilian comfort model in order to assess the energy implications from the use of the worldwide ASHraE Standard 55 adaptive model and various fixed setpoint *** of Brazil’s climate zones,full air-conditioning,mixed-mode building operating modes,present-day climate change scenarios,and future scenarios—specifically Representative Concentration pathways(RCp)2.6,4.5,and 8.5 for the years 2050 and 2100—have all been taken into account in building energy *** use of adaptive setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local model considering mixed-mode has been found to significantly reduce energy consumption when compared to static setpoint temperatures(average energy-saving values ranging from 52%to 58%)and the ASHraE 55 adaptive model(average values ranging from 15%to 21%).Considering climate change and the mixed-mode Brazilian model,the overall energy demand for the three groups of climatic zones(annual average outdoor temperatures≤21℃,>21 and≤25℃and>25℃)ranged between 2%decrease and 5%increase,4%and 27%increase,and 13%and 45%increase,*** is concluded as a consequence that setting setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local adaptive comfort model is a very efficient energy-saving method.

Controlling the wetting and spreading of microdroplets is key to technologies such as microfluidics,ink-jet printing,and surface *** angle goniometry is commonly used to characterize surface wetting by droplets,but the technique is ill-suited for high contact angles close to 180°.Here,we attach a micrometric-sized droplet to an atomic force microscope cantilever to directly quantify droplet–solid friction on different surfaces(superhydrophobic and underwater superoleophobic)with sub-nanonewton force *** demonstrate the versatility of our approach by performing friction measurements using different liquids(water and oil droplets)and under different ambient environments(in air and underwater).Finally,we show that underwater superoleophobic surfaces can be qualitatively different from superhydrophobic surfaces:droplet–solid friction is highly sensitive to droplet speeds for the former but not for the latter surface.

photocatalysis-assisted removal of uranium has been proven as an effective method for the elimination of radioactive pollution from *** this work,carbon nitride materials were synthesized in potassium hydroxide(KOH)molten salt and applied to photocatalytic uranyl *** materials were confirmed to possess the triazine-s-heptazine structure by NMR,XpS and UV-Vis characterization,and exhibited a wider visible light absorption than graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4)).The photocatalytic activity of the carbon nitride materials was tailored by varying the precursor mass *** carbon nitride obtained at 80%melamine as precursor(K-CN-80)exhibited the highest photocatalytic extraction ability and its photocatalytic reaction rate is 6.6 times faster than that of g-C_(3)N_(4).The influence of sacrificial agents was studied and the results showed that triethanolamine inhibited U(Ⅵ)photoreduction,but methanol can accelerate U(Ⅵ)photoreduction by consuming photogenerated *** unary KOH molten salt synthesis method has exceptional potential applications in the preparation of carbon nitrides,and the obtained products showed potential in extracting U(Ⅵ)from aqueous solutions for use in nuclear fuel industry and for U(Ⅵ)environmental pollution cleanup.

Concerns related to environmental risks associated with pharmaceuticals and personal care products(ppCps)have led researchers to seek methods for assessing and monitoring these contaminants in the aquatic *** and validating risk assessment tools that can evaluate ecological concerns and risks associated with ppCps is ***,the suitability of a dose-related risk and effect assessment model,which estimates predicted environmental concentrations and allowed comparisons with predicted no effect concentrations determined,in combination with in vitro analyses of the whole effluent toxicity,was verified for the characterization of a ppCp *** of the most utilized ppCps in Norway were measured in influent and effluent samples and used to parameterize the fate *** than 90%removal was attained for 12 out of 22 detected *** was not dependent on the class or the concentration of the specific substance and varied between 12%and 100%.The ppCps detected in the discharged wastewater were utilized to assess individual contributions to the risk of the effluent,and no risk was identified for the targeted 30 *** simulations provided valuable information regarding the discharge plume distribution over time,which can aid planning of future environmental monitoring ***(using fish liver cells,pLHC-1)were used for assessing overall effluent toxicity,through cell viability,production of reactive oxygen species,and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase(EROD)*** present study may allow regulators to use risk-based strategies over removal criteria for monitoring studies and confirms the importance to take ppCp contamination into consideration when establishing environmental regulations.

Extracorporeal life support(ECLS)serves as a rescue therapy for patients with congenital diaphragmatic hernia(CDH)and severe cardiopulmonary failure,and only half of these patients survive to *** costly intervention has a significant complication risk and is reserved for patients with the most severe disease physiology refractory to maximal cardiopulmonary *** contraindications to ECLS do exist such as coagulopathy,lethal chromosomal or congenital anomaly,very preterm birth,or very low birth weight,but many of these limits are being evaluated through further *** guidelines from the past decade vary in recommendations for ECLS use in patients with CDH but this therapy appears to have a survival benefit in the most severe subset of *** outcomes have been observed for patients treated at high-volume *** review details the evolving literature surrounding management paradigms for timing of CDH repair for patients receiving preoperative *** recent data support early repair following cannulation to avoid non-repair which is uniformly fatal in this *** ECLS runs are associated with decreased survival,and patient physiology should guide ECLS weaning and eventual decannulation rather than limiting patients to arbitrary run *** of care across centers is a major focus to limit unnecessary costs and improve short-term and long-term outcomes for these complex patients.

Natural resources represent the base of our living and the entire economic *** depletion is a major challenge for the economic development of both developed and developing *** effi-cient use is an indispensable requirement and must be the aim of the public policies designed by the authorities *** this research,we have investigated the impact of the natural resources rent on the economic growth in some major wealthy economies of the world(p5+1 countries namely:US,UK,France,China,Russia,and Germany).We have applied a quantile-on-quantile regression to analyse this impact on different quantiles and a cross-sectional autoregressive distributed lag(CS-ARDL)approach for the panel of these six *** Dumitrescu-Hurlin panel causality test was also used to check the causality between natural resource rents and economic growth in these *** show a negative relationship between natural resources rent and economic growth for the panel but a different impact on quantiles in each *** for China and the US,a positive effect can be noticed for both lower and higher quantiles of natural resources and economic *** Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test shows that natural resources can predict economic growth only in China,the U.S.,and the *** contrast,no causality was found for the other four countries included in the *** suggest that nations invest in wind and solar projects,use biofuels and nuclear energy,introduce a temporary profit tax to protect consumers from escalating energy prices,and increase energy efficiency in buildings and *** would benefit from a regulatory framework that is uniform and exhaustive,as well as easier to traverse and more receptive to innovation and ***-private partnership investments in innovation,innovation incentives,and environmental sector opportunities may foster long-term economic growth。
