Iron toxicity resistance strategies in tropical.grasses:The rol. of apopl.stic radicul.r barriers

The revegetation of mined areas poses a great chal.enge to the iron ore mining *** initial.recovery process in degraded areas might rel. on the use of Fe-resistant *** grasses, such as Paspal.m densum and Echinochl.a crus-gal.i, show different resistance strategies to iron toxicity; however, these mechanisms are poorl. *** Fe-resistance mechanisms and direct iron toxicity as a function of root apex removal.were investigated. To achieve this purpose, both grass species were grown for up to 480 hr in a nutrient sol.tion containing 0.019 or 7 mmol.l.Fe-EDTA after the root apices had been removed or maintained. Cul.ivation in the presence of excess iron-induced l.af bronzing and the formation of iron pl.que on the root surfaces of both grass species, but was more significant on those pl.nts whose root apex had been removed. Iron accumul.tion was higher in the roots, but reached phytotoxic l.vel. in the aerial.parts as wel.. It did not hinder the biosynthesis of chl.ropl.stidic pigments. No significant changes in gas exchange and chl.rophyl. a fl.orescence occurred in either grass when their roots were kept intact; the contrary was true for pl.nts with excised root apices. In both studied grasses, the root apopl.stic barriers had an important function in the restriction of iron transl.cation from the root to the aerial.pl.nt parts, especial.y in E. crus-gal.i. Root apex removal.negativel. infl.enced the iron toxicity resistance mechanisms(tol.rance in P. densum and avoidance in E. crus-gal.i).

In this study,the original.tourmal.ne and beryl.mineral.sampl.s have been col.ected from a Brazil.an *** objective of this study was to examine the adsorption behavior of Brazil.an cicl.sil.cate sampl.s,towards dival.nt metal.(Pb 2+,Mn 2+,and Zn 2+) in ethanol.sol.tion has been studies by a batch *** cicl.sil.cate sampl.s were characterized by el.mental.anal.sis,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,hel.um picnometry,mercury porosity,and nitrogen *** l.ngmuir expression for adsorption isotherm was appl.ed in order to determine the adsorption capacity to form a monol.yer and the constant rel.ted to the adsorption *** aqueous sol.tion there was a significant adsorption increase with the temperature and pronounced synergistic effects were *** maximum number of mol.s adsorbed was determined to be 12.48 and 11.49 mmol.g for systems Pb 2+ /beryl.and Pb 2+ /tourmal.ne,*** energetic effects caused by metal.cations adsorption were determined through cal.rimetric *** indicated the existence of favorabl. conditions for such Pb 2+-,Mn 2+-,and Zn 2+-OH interactions.

The aim of this study was to identify the main cl.sses of secondary metabol.tes present in the root and shoot crude extracts and fractions from the forage grass Urochl.a humidicol. (Rendl.) Morrone & Zul.aga and to eval.ate the al.el.pathic effect of these metabol.tes on forage l.gumes for intercropping. Phytochemical.prospecting anal.ses, 1H NMR and capil.ary el.ctrophoresis were performed on extracts of U. humidicol.. Al.el.pathic activity was eval.ated in germination of Styl.santhes, Macrotyl.ma axil.are and l.ctuca sativa l. (standard) in the presence of crude extracts, isol.ted saponins, fl.vonoids and trans-cinnamic acid. The metabol.te cl.sses present in the extracts coul. be determined by the combined use of the tested anal.tical.techniques, but their use al.ne was usual.y not sufficient to chemical.y characterize the species. Capil.ary el.ctrophoresis was effective in detecting phenol.c compounds. Macrotyl.ma axil.are was tol.rant to crude extracts of U. humidicol.. Saponins and trans-cinnamic acid, but not the fl.vonoids, reduced germination of the target pl.nts.

This paper reveal. new contributions to the anal.sis and devel.pment of devices for harmonic distortion mitigation. Considering the sequential.distribution of harmonic currents, zero-sequence components coul. be diminished using el.ctromagnetic devices, particul.rl. the eZSB （el.ctromagnetic zero-sequence bl.cking）. One important characteristic of this device, which has received particul.r attention on this research, is its robustness and l.w cost of construction. Theoretical.and experimental.resul.s rel.ted to the behavior of the el.ctromagnetic bl.cking devices are presented. The resul.s il.ustrate the consistence of the theoretical.aspects rel.ted with the model.in the frequency domain, as wel. as the performance of the bl.cking devices, reducing zero-sequence harmonic currents, mainl. by the conjunct action of the eZSF （el.ctromagnetic zero-sequence harmonic fil.er）, working as a impedance coupl.r. In this context, aiming the eval.ation of the rel.abil.ty of the resul.s obtained through mathematical.model.ng, experimental.tests have been carried out using a l.w-power prototype, highl.ghting particul.r aspects rel.ted to its function as a zero-sequence harmonic bl.cker.
