Application of Fe_2O_3/Al_2O_3 Composite Particles as Oxygen Carrier of Chemical Looping Combustion

Chemical looping combustion （CLC） of carbonaceous compounds has been proposed, in the past decade, as an efficient method for CO2 capture without cost of extra energy penalties. The technique involves the use of a metal oxide as an oxygen carrier that transfers oxygen from combustion air to fuels. The combustion is carried out in a two-step process： in the fuel reactor, the fuel is oxidized by a metal oxide, and in the air reactor, the reduced metal is oxidized back to the original phase. The use of iron oxide as an oxygen carrier has been investigated in this article. Particles composed of 80 wt% Fe2O3, together with Al2O3 as binder, have been prepared by impregnation methods. X-ray diffraction （XRD） analysis reveals that Fe2O3 does not interact with the Al2O3 binder after multi-cycles. The reactivity of the oxygen carrier particles has been studied in twenty-cycle reduction-oxidation tests in a thermal gravimetrical analysis （TGA） reactor. The components in the outlet gas have been analyzed. It has been observed that about 85% of CH4 converted to CO2 and H2O during most of the reduction periods. The oxygen carrier has kept quite a high reactivity in the twenty-cycle reactions. In the first twenty reaction cycles, the reaction rates became slightly higher with the number of cyclic reactions increasing, which was confirmed by the scanning electron microscopy （SEM） test results. The SEM analysis revealed that the pore size inside the particle had been enlarged by the thermal stress during the reaction, which was favorable for diffusion of the gaseous reactants into the particles. The experimental results suggested that the Fe2O3/Al2O3 oxygen carrier was a promising candidate for a CLC system.

Hydrogen-induced marginal growth model for the synthesis of graphene by arc discharge

High-quality graphene is prepared by arc discharge with low cost under hydrogen atmosphere. However, the growth mechanism of graphene synthesis by arc discharge remains unclear. In this paper, the hydrogen-induced marginal growth(HIMG) model is deduced to study the growth mechanism of graphene by combining experiment with numerical simulation results. First, the characteristics of thick edges and thin middle and containing hydrogen are verified by transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy, respectively. In addition, numerical simulation provides the chemical species and temperature range of graphene growth. Second, the marginal growth pattern of hydrogen transfer and carbon addition is introduced because the C–H and C–C reduce configuration energy and island energy, respectively. Meanwhile, the stacking growth at the margin of the graphene island leads to the longitudinal growth of graphene because of the Van der Waals force and the effect of self-assembly,increasing the number of graphene layers. Finally, graphene sheets with a small amount of hydrogen are deposited on the inner wall after annealing. The investigation of the growth mechanism of graphene under hydrogen atmosphere lays a foundation for the large-scale preparation of graphene by arc discharge.

The expressions of heat of evaporation for metals at different temperatures were deduced from Clausius-Clapeyron equation and the total change of *** of Pb,Cd and Zn were *** showed that theoretic energy consumption decreased a little with the decrease of e-vaporation temperature,which can be used to determine the energy demand while these metals are distilled at different process temperatures and pressures.

Effect of crystallization on purity of volatile metallic magnesium prepared from a one-step multi-region condensation process under vacuum condition

We hereby report a green and simple volatilization-condensation process to prepare high-purity magnesium in different crystal forms under vacuum condition. This method can be also used for the analysis of other metals, which can be separated by the same concept. In addition, Mg condensation is a very fast process, and the corresponding easy growth of the Mg crystals is promoted when the concentration of magnesium vapor is raised. From the view of crystallization, ultrafast crystal growth of high-purity magnesium is a barrier-free and orderly process. Interestingly, different condensed forms of Mg obtained via this ultrafast volatilization-condensation process are showing different purities. The distinct morphological formation of Mg in different condensed form is probably attributed to the differences of surface energy change of Mg during the condensation process.

Comparative evaluation of energy and resource consumption for vacuum carbothermal reduction and Pidgeon process used in magnesium production

With the fast development of the application of magnesium based alloys,the demand for primary magnesium is increasing dramatically all over the *** Pidgeon process is the most widely used process for producing magnesium in China,but suffers from problems such as high energy,resource consumption and environmental *** the process of vacuum carbothermal reduction to produce magnesium(VCTRM)has attracted more and more attention as its advantages,but it has not been well-practiced in industrial applications and there also is no comprehensive and quantitative analysis of this *** study quantified the flows of resource and energy for the Pidgeon process and the VCTRM process,then compared and analyzed these two processes with each other from three *** VCTRM process results in 63.14%and 69.16%lower of non-renewable mineral resources and energy consumptions when compared to the Pidgeon process,***,the low energy consumption(2.675 tce vs.8.681 tce)and material to magnesium ratio(2.953:1 vs.6.429:1)of the VCTRM process,which lead to lower greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions(8.777 t vs.26.337 t)and solid waste generation(0.522 t vs.5.465 t)with a decrease of 66.67%and 90.45%,*** indicate that the VCTRM process is a more environmentally friendly process for magnesium production with high efficiency but low cost and low pollution,and it shows a good potential to be industrialized in the future after solving the bottleneck problem of the reverse reaction.

Influence of synergistic effect of LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.15)Al_(0.05)O_(2)@Cr_(2)O_(5)composite on the electrochemical properties

LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.15)Al_(0.05)O_(2)@Cr_(2)O_(5)composite electrode combines the high rate-capability characteristics of NCA with the stability of Cr_(2)O_(5),playing a synergistic role in improving the cyclic stability,initial discharge capacity and the security of low cut-off voltage(2.0 V).When the mass ratio of Cr_(2)O_(5)in NCA is 45%(mass),the capacity retention rate increases from 58.5% without Cr_(2)O_(5)to 69.3% in the range of 2.0-4.3 *** initial discharge capacity of NCA@Cr_(2)O_(5)composite material is 211.4 mA·h·g^(-1),its first coulombic efficiency is 94.2%,and the charging capacity remains approximately constant when mixed with 15%(mass)Cr_(2)O_(5).The reason for the improvement of the initial charge-discharge efficiency(ICDE)was *** and cyclic voltammetry analysis reveal more detailed reasons of the observed *** with NCA cathode material,the NCA@Cr_(2)O_(5)composite material can provide not only additional stable sites and channels for Li^(+)insertion/extraction to make up for the loss of active Li^(+)sites and prevent the accumulation of Li+in the circulation process,but also protect the NCA electrode from the corrosion of the electrolyte decomposition by the Cr_(2)O_(5)nanoparticles adhering to NCA interface.

Thermal stability of LiFePO_4/C-LiMn_2O_4 blended cathode materials

Safety is important to lithium ion battery materials. The thermal stability of LiFePOa/C-LiMn204 blended cathode materials is characterized by using TG, XRD, and SEM etc. The results show that LiFePO4/C-LiMn2O4 possesses a worse thermal stability than pure spinel LiMn2O4 and pure olivine LiFePO4/C. When LiFePO4/C-LiMn2O4 blended cathode materials are sintered at 500℃ under Ar atmosphere, the sintered cathode materials emit O2, and appear impurity phases （Li3PO4, Fe2O3, Mn3O4）. It is deduced that some chemical reactions take place between different materials, which leads to a worse discharge specific capacity. LiFePO4/C-LiMn2O4 blended cathode materials, therefore, need to be managed and controlled strictly for the sake of ther- mal stability and safety.

This paper summarizes the research results of vacuum distillation of Pb-Sb alloy and crude *** our study,we have found the basic law which states that in Pb-Sb phase diagrams,the part which is rich in lead can be used to guide the purification of lead by distillation,while the part rich in antimony can be used to guide the purification of *** the compositional point C is the azeotropic *** technical experi-mental results at temperatures between 7OO-85OC are coincident with those of theorical *** expanding experiment at the 100kg scale produced satisfactory results.

The rare-earth metal Gd plays an important role in the energy,information,and national defence fields due to its special optical,electrical,magnetic,and catalytic *** this study,Gd was purified by direct current(DC)arc plasma,and Gd2O_(3) nanoparticles were prepared via an integration method using purified *** effects of arc current,melting time,gas pressure,and atmosphere on the purification of Gd by DC arc plasma were *** an increase in the arc current and melting time,the rate of removal of impurities from Gd ***,Gd melting was conducted by H_(2)-Ar arc plasma,which improves the impurity removal rate by increasing the H_(2) *** thermal conductivity and chemical activity of the activated H atoms generated by the dissociation of H_(2) are the main reasons for the significant improvement in the impurity removal *** mechanism of Gd purification was analysed based on the above-mentioned experimental *** as-synthesised Gd2 O_(3) nanoparticles have a uniform spherical structure(average diameter of 32.7 nm),appropriate dispersibility,and high *** study provides a new strategy for the integrated purification of metals and preparation of metal/metal-based nanomaterials by DC arc plasma.
