Electrode material has been cited as one of the most important determining factors in classifying an energy storage system’s charge storage mechanism,i.e.,as battery-type or *** this paper,we show that along with the electrode material,the electrolyte also plays a role in determining the charge storage behaviour of the *** the purpose of our research,we chose multi-elemental spinal type CuMn_(2)O_(4) metal oxide nanofibers to prove the *** material is synthesized as nanofibers of diameter~120 to 150 nm in large scales by a pilot scale electrospinning set *** was then tested in three different electrolytes(1 M KOH,1 M Na_(2)SO_(4) and 1 M Li_(2)SO_(4)),two of which are neutral and the third is alkaline(KOH).The cyclic voltammograms and the galvanostatic charge-discharge of the electrode material in a three-electrode sys-tem measurement showed that it exhibit different charge storage mechanism in different electrolyte *** the neutral electrolytes,a capacitive behaviour was observed whereas a battery-type behaviour was seen for the alkaline *** leads us to conclude that the charge storage mechanism,along with the active material,also depends on the electrolyte used.

Large scavengers are strongly dependent on environmental conditions and carrion distribution and abundance,so season and breeding-related factors may influence the spatial ecology of species such as the Cinereous Vulture(Aegypius monachus),the largest European *** holds one of the biggest populations worldwide,but some aspects of the spatial ecology of the species in this region remain *** this study,17 adult Cinereous Vultures were GPS-tracked in order to study their spatial ecology during the adult *** average monthly home ranges(95%Kernel density Estimation,KdE)and core areas(50%KdE)were 6543±19,935 km^(2)and 1174±4004 km^(2),*** average monthly home range fidelity ranged between 50 and 73%.differences in movement-related variables between the seasonal periods(incubation,chick-rearing and non-breeding)were *** the chick-rearing period,the monthly accumulated distance was higher than during the other periods:3316±1108(chick-rearing)vs.1621±622(incubation)vs.1726±1159 km per month(nonbreeding).Additionally,large home range sizes were more frequent during the chick-rearing *** are two likely causes for these seasonal ***,chick-rearing entails a higher energetic expenditure by the parental individuals in foraging activities,so larger movements and foraging areas are expected during this ***,the flight is favoured during spring and summer due to environmental *** chick-rearing and warm months is a great evolutionary advantage for soaring-gliding raptors,as it allows them to cover larger areas with low energy ***,six individuals tagged as nestlings highlight the philopatric behaviour of the species:vultures settle their breeding areas 54±51 km from their natal nest(range=9–138 km).

Infections by the fungus Monilinia laxa,the main cause of brown rot in Europe,result in considerable losses of stone ***,we present a comprehensive transcriptomic approach to unravel strategies deployed by nectarine fruit and *** during their *** used ***-inoculated immature and mature fruit,which was resistant and susceptible to brown rot,respectively,to perform a dual RNA-Seq *** immature fruit,host responses,pathogen biomass,and pathogen transcriptional activity peaked at 14–24 h post inoculation(hpi),at which point *** appeared to switch its transcriptional response to either quiescence or *** fruit experienced an exponential increase in host and pathogen activity beginning at 6 *** analyses in both host and pathogen highlighted differences in stage-dependent *** example,in immature fruit,*** unsuccessfully employed carbohydrate-active enzymes(CAZymes)for penetration,which the fruit was able to combat with tightly regulated hormone responses and an oxidative burst that challenged the pathogen’s survival at later time *** contrast,in mature fruit,*** was more dependent on proteolytic effectors than CAZymes,and was able to invest in filamentous growth early during the *** analyses of mature fruit infected with *** indicated that,while jasmonic acid activity was likely useful for defense,high ethylene activity may have promoted susceptibility through the induction of ripening ***,we identified *** genes that were highly induced in both quiescent and active infections and may serve as targets for control of brown rot.

AIM： To investigate intestinal alkaline phosphatase （iAP） in the intestinal mucosa of children with inflammatory bowel disease （IBd）. METHOdS： Colonic biopsy samples were taken from 15 newly diagnosed IBd patients and from 10 healthy controls. In IBd patients, specimens were obtainedboth from inflamed and non-inflamed areas. The lAP mRNA and protein expression was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analysis, respectively. Tissue localiza- tion of lAP and Toll-like receptor （TLR） 4 was investi- gated by immunofluorescent staining. RESULTS： The lAP protein level in the inflamed muco- sa of children with Crohn＇s disease （Cd） and ulcerative colitis （UC） was significantly decreased when compared with controls （both P 〈 0.05）. Similarly, we found a significantly decreased level of lAP protein in the in- flamed mucosa in Cd compared with non-inflamed mucosa in Cd （P 〈 0.05）. In addition, the iAP protein level in inflamed colonic mucosa in patients with UC was decreased compared with non-inflamed mucosa in patients with Cd （P 〈 0.05）. lAP protein levels in the non-inflamed mucosa of patients with Cd were similar to controls, lAP mRNA expression in inflamed colonic mucosa of children with Cd and UC was not significant- ly different from that in non-inflamed colonic mucosa with Cd. Expression of lAP mRNA in patients with non- inflamed mucosa and in controls were similar. Co-local- ization of lAP with TLR4 showed intense staining with a dotted-like pattern, lAP was present in the inflamed and non-inflamed mucosa of patients with Cd, UC, and in control biopsy specimens, irrespective of whether it was present in the terminal ileum or in the colon. However, the fluorescent signal of TLR4 was more pro- nounced in the colon compared with the terminal ileum in all groups studied. AIM: To analyze the serum levels of retinoids and Leiden mutation in patients with esophageal, gastric, liver,pancreatic, and colorectal ***: The changes in serum levels of retinoids (vitamin A, α- and β-carotene, α- and β-cryptoxanthin,zeaxanthin, lutein) and Leiden mutation were measured by high liquid performance chromatography (HPLC)and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in 107 patients (70 males/37 females) with esophageal (0/8), gastric (16/5), liver (8/7), pancreatic (6/4), and colorectal (30/21including 9 patients suffering from in situ colon cancer)cancer. Fifty-seven healthy subjects (in matched groups)for controls of serum retinoids and 600 healthy blood donors for Leiden mutation were ***: The serum levels of vitamin A and zeaxanthin were decreased significantly in all groups of patients with gastrointestinal (GI) tumors except for vitamin A in patients with pancreatic cancer. No changes were obtained in the serum levels of α- and β-carotene,α- and β-cryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin, lutein in patients with GI cancer. The prevalence of Leiden mutation significantly increased in all groups of patients with GI ***: Retinoids (as environmental factors)are decreased significantly with increased prevalence of Leiden mutation (as a genetic factor) in patients before the clinical manifestation of histologically different (planocellular and hepatocellular carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma) GI cancer.

Background:It remains unclear if the vascular and connective tissue structures of primary and metastatic tumors are intrinsically determined or whether these characteristics are defined by the host *** we examined the microanatomical steps of vasculature and connective tissue development of C38 colon carcinoma in different ***:Tumors produced in mice at five different locations(the cecal wall,skin,liver,lung,and brain)were ana-lyzed using fluorescent immunohistochemistry,electron microscopy and quantitative real-time polymerase chain ***:We found that in the cecal wall,skin,liver,and lung,resident fibroblasts differentiate into collagenous matrix-producing myofibroblasts at the tumor *** activated fibroblasts together with the produced matrix were incorporated by the *** connective tissue development culminated in the appearance of intratumoral tissue columns(centrally located single microvessels embedded in connective tissue and smooth muscle actin-expressing myofibroblasts surrounded by basement membrane).Conversely,in the brain(which lacks fibroblasts),C38 metasta-ses only induced the development of vascularized desmoplastic tissue columns when the growing tumor reached the fibroblast-containing ***:Our data suggest that the desmoplastic host tissue response is induced by tumor-derived fibrogenic molecules acting on host tissue *** concluded that not only the host tissue characteristics but also the tumor-derived fibrogenic signals determine the vascular and connective tissue structure of tumors.

γ-valerolactone (GVL) is a C5-cyclic ester that can be produced from biomass providing a potentially renewable fuel for transportation and feedstock for the chemical industry. Experiments were performed with fossil diesel (d), d + biodiesel (Bd) and d + Bd + GVL blends. A four-cylinder, turbocharged direct injection diesel engine was used for the tests. The engine was coupled to a dynamometer to vary the load. CO, NOx, THC and smoke emissions were measured by using a multi-channel gas analyzer. Combustion characteristics were assessed by in-cylinder pressure data with respect to crank angle and the derived heat release rates. Compared with d, and d + Bd blends, addition of GVL had relatively little effect on engine performance and NOx emission, but reduced the exhaust concentration of CO, unburned fuel and smoke significantly. The smoke reduction is particularly notable in view of the very recent suggestion that black carbon is the second most important greenhouse gas in the atmosphere next to carbon dioxide. No diesel engine study with GVL has been reported so far.

Effect of herpesvirus infection on pancreatic duct cell secretion

AIM： To examine the effect of acute infection caused by herpesvirus （pseudorabies virus, PRV） on pancreatic ductal secretion. METHOdS： The virulent Ba-dupGreen （BdG） and non- virulent Ka-RREp01acgfp （KEG） genetically modified strains of PRV were used in this study and both of them contain the gene for green fluorescent protein （GFP）. Small intra/ interlobular ducts were infected with BdG virus （10^7 PFU/mL for 6 h） or with KEG virus （10^10 PFU/mL for 6 h）, while non-infected ducts were incubated only with the culture media. The ducts were then cultured for a further 18 h. The rate of HCO3 secretion [base efflux -λ（B）] was determined from the buffering capacity of the cells and the initial rate of intracellular acidification （1） after sudden blockage of basolateral base loaders with dihydro-4,4,- diisothiocyanatostilbene-2,2,-disulfonic acid （500 μmol/L） and amiloride （200 μmol/L）, and （2） after alkali loading the ducts by exposure to NH4Cl. All the experiments were performed in HCO3-buffered Ringer solution at 37 ℃ （n = 5 ducts for each experimental condition）. Viral structural proteins were visualized by immunohistochemistry. Virallyencoded GFP and immunofluorescence signals were recorded by a confocal laser scanning microscope.RESULTS： The BdG virus infected the majority of accessible cells of the duct as judged by the appearance of GFP and viral anUgens in the ductal cells. KEG virus caused a similarly high efficiency of infection. After blockage of basolateral base loaders, BdG infection significantly elevated -λB-） 24 h after the infection, compared to the non-infected group. However, KEG infection did not modify -λB-）. After alkali loading the ducts, -λB-） was significantly elevated in the BdG group compared to the control group 24 h after the infection. As we found with the inhibitor stop method, no change was observed in the group KEG compared to the non-infected group.
