in this talk i report on recent work related to the dynamical generation of baryonic resonances, some made up from pseudoscalar meson-baryon, others from vector meson-baryon and a third type from two meson-one baryon systems. We can establish a correspondence with known baryonic resonances, reinforcing conclusions previously drawn and bringing new light on the nature of some baryonic resonances of higher mass.

Background: The optimal treatment of major head injuries in the resuscitative phase of care post-injury has yet to be determined. This study measured the effect on mortality of pre-hospital intubation (PHi) vs. emergency department in tubation (Edi) of patients suffering serious head injury. Methods: in the single emergency medical services system for this Canadian province, we used a population-based trauma database, conventional logistic regression (with and without the use of a propensity score to control for selection effect bias) to evaluate the effect of PHi vs. Edi on in-hospital mortality. inclusion criteria were age ≥ 16 years, serious head injury (Abbreviated injury Score ≥ 3, non-penetrating trauma) and resuscitative intubation (PHi or Edi). Results: Over 5 years, 283 patients (2000-2005) met inclusion crite ria. Conventional unconditional logistic regression modelled on mortality with “PHi vs. Edi” as the intervention of interest showed an odds ratio of 2.015 (95% Ci 1.062 3.825) for improved survival if these patients were intubated in the emergency department rather than in the pre-hospital phase of care. A propensity score adjustment demonstrated a similar but more conservative point estimate (OR 1.727, 95% Ci: 0.993 3.004). Conclusions: This observational study demonstrated a survival advantage with Edi (versus PHi) in seriously head-injured patients in a mature, province-wide emergency medical services system.

Changes in land use associated with the suppression of native vegetation can greatly alter the landscape configuration, affecting biodiversity and environmental services availability. This study analyzes how changes in land use affect landscape patterns of vegetation remnant over a 10 year period. We quantified spatial landscape patterns throughout a hydrographic basin for the years 2002, 2008, 2010 and 2012, using nine landscape metrics. An indicator of integrity was used to details the transformation processes occurring in the basin that could be used to monitor the impact of landscape changes and its spatial patterning. Results showed that over this decade, extension of farming activities reduced the cover of native vegetation by 4.4%, with grassy-woody savanna, wooded savanna and forested savanna impacted especially strongly. Suppression of vegetation across this period reduced the size of fragments and their connectivity. The landscape fragmentation indicator indicated that the fragmentation pattern varied spatially, with the upland areas along river headwaters, being most fragmented. Areas of floodplains vegetation, belonged to the Pantanal Wetland, although in better integrity states, are the most threatened by current pressures of land use change. An intense recovery program for headwaters and aquifer recharge areas, as well as riparian forests, is recommended to avoid the future depletion of water production. Besides, we also recommend the maintenance and recovering of the connectivity of the current remaining patches of natural vegetation corridors and elaboration of specific laws that incoporate the consolidated scientific knowladge about wetland ecosystem functioning, like the Pantanal.

The purpose of this study was to verify the efficiency of methods of pre-conditioning and concentrations of tetrazolium solution in the evaluation of physiological quality of Stizolobium aterrimum seeds. Commercial seeds have passed through the process of accelerated aging for composing lots of 0, 24, 48, 96 and 144 hours, and were submitted to the pre-conditioning: 1) Scarification with sandpaper number 100 and immersion in water at room temperature for 18 hours, 2) immersion in water at 95°C and maintained in the same water outside the heating at 25°C for 18 hours. After preconditioning, the seed coats were removed and immersed in embryos tetrazolium salt at 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% for 150 minutes and maintained in the dark at 25°C for color development. To compare the results obtained in the tetrazolium test, we performed germination test, first counting and germination speed index. The method of scarification with sandpaper and later soaked in water for 18 hours at 25°C, the most efficient way in preconditioning of seeds of Stizolobium aterrimum and concentration of 1.0% tetrazolium solution for 150 minutes at 25°C, allows evaluating the quality of seed lots from this species.

背景:分子流行病学在近期的结核病传播中的重要性得到了加强,但同时也发现了一些与传统流行病学的显著区别。目的:1.在城市中心区的结核病高流行区(163/100000)和有成簇危险的人群中用RFLP法确定成簇病例的百分比。2.比较传统接触者追踪法(CCT)与RFLP法的作用。分析:1997-1998年间巴塞罗纳市Ciutat Vella区收集的培养阳性的165例标本,利用iS6110和pTBN12(PGRS)序列进行RFLP分析:对251例公布的病例中的171例(68.1％)进行了接触者追踪调查。通过计算比值比(OR)、使用95％的可信区间(Ci)评价它们之间的联系。多变量的分析采用逻辑回归。结果:通过RFLP分析,发现76例(46.0％)的分离株在iS6110和PGRS序列上有成簇现象,通过传统接触者追踪法(CCT),在858名接触者中,发现了30名新病人,57名病人存在关联。就RFLP和CCT调查结果来看,主要危险因素为静脉吸毒(iVdU)。44名独居者病例未包括在传统接触者追踪中,50％的病例用RFLP分析存在成簇。RFLP和CCT法的符合率为8/13(61.5％);5例不符合者为新近的非洲移民。在随后的RFLP分析中15/55例病例发现有流行病学关联。结论:成簇病例的百分率很高。CCT在发现新病例时很有用,但在追踪传播路径时存在缺陷。CCT的覆盖面需要在被忽视的个体及与RFLP结果的符合率方面提高。

We present a new tracksite with multiple dinosaur tracks from the lowermost Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) of the Cape Espichel (Sesimbra, Portugal). The tracks are localized on three beds on the top carbonate beds of the Areia do Mastro Formation. Those bioclastic, nodular limestones were deposited in a very shallow subtidal-intertidal, restricted lagoon environment. The track surfaces are very dinoturbated, with a substantial number of tracks. Several tracks assign to sauropods, ornithopods and theropods dinosaurs were recorded. due to heavy bioturbation and the preservation conditions, it is not possible to define trackways;some preliminary work done on the tracks could disclose some behaviours of their producers. Several species of carnivore and herbivore dinosaurs crossed that large area at different times. Herbivores may have used the lagoon margin as passage between feeding spots, while carnivores frequented the area to hunt in groups or individually.

The deposition of ultrafine particles, in the human respiratory tract, from four highly impacted megacities across the globe, was evaluated by using a pulmonary deposition model. it was found that, for the locations studied, an average of 62% of atmospheric particles was retained in the respiratory system. As expected, the model shows that smaller particles penetrate deeper in the airways. in addition, it’s shown that children are more susceptible than adults, retaining 8% more ultrafine particles.
