Associations of plasma homocysteine and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels with arterial stiffness in Chinese population： a community-based study

Background Arterial stiffness increases with age and is also associated with traditional cardiovascular risk factors. Little is known about the relations of homocysteine and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein （hs-CRP） to arterial stiffness in the Chinese community. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association of plasma homocysteine and hs-CRP levels with arterial stiffness in a community-based cohort. Methods we related levels of homocysteine and hs-CRP to four measures of arterial stiffness （carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity （PWV）, carotid-radial PWV, carotid-ankle PWV and heart rate corrected augmentation index） in 1680 participants from two communities of Beijing, China. Arterial stiffness was measured within two days of the time of biomarker measurement. Results In univariate analysis, homocysteine was positively associated with the carotid-femoral PWV （r=0.211, P 〈0.0001）, carotid-radial PWV （r=0.120, P 〈0.0001） and carotid-ankle PWV （r=0.148, P 〈0.0001）, whereas it was inversely related to the augmentation index （r= -0.052, P=0.016）. Hs-CRP was positively associated with the carotid-femoral PWV （r=0.074, P=0.001） and carotid-ankle PWV （r=0.050, P=0.02）. In multiple-adjusted models （R2=0.57）, homocysteine levels remained a significant determinant of the carotid-femoral PWV （standardized 13=0.065, P=0.007）, whereas the association of hs-CRP with measurements of arterial stiffness was not present. Conclusions In the Chinese population, plasma homocysteine levels are associated with alterations of aortic stiffness, whereas plasma levels of hs-CRP are not independently related to artery stiffening.

Peripheral monocyte count： an independent diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for prostate cancer - a large Chinese cohort study

Increasing evidence indicates that inflammation may play important roles in tumorigenesis and progression, and an elevated peripheral monocyte count predicts a poor prognosis in various types of malignancies. Here, we evaluate the roles of peripheral monocyte count in the diagnosis and prognosis for prostate cancer in Chinese patients. A total of 1107 consecutive patients who had undergone prostate biopsy and 290 prostate cancer patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy as first-line therapy were retrospectively analyzed. The parameters were measured at the time of diagnosis. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify the independent predictors of a positive biopsy. Patients were categorized in two groups using a cutoff point of 0.425 x 109 1-1 as calculated by the receiver-operating curve analysis for prognosis. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to determine the associations of monocyte count with progression-free survival, cancer-specific survival, and overall survival. Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that monocyte count, age, prostate-specific antigen （PSA）, free/total PSA, and prostate volume were independent predictors for prostate cancer. Multivariate Cox regression analyses identified an elevated monocyte count as an independent prognostic factor for worse cancer-specific survival （hazard ratio = 2.244, P 〈 0.05） and overall survival （hazard ratio = 1.995, P 〈 0.05）, but not progression-free survival （P = 0.117）. Our results indicated that an elevated monocyte count was an independent diagnostic biomarker for prostate cancer, and pretreatment peripheral monocyte count might play a significant role in the prognosis of prostate cancer patients treated with androgen deprivation therapy.

The formation of Ca^(2+) gradients at the cleavage furrows during cytokinesis of Zebrafish embryos

Let X=Rn +×R denote the underlying manifold of polyradial functions on the Heisenberg group H n. we construct a generalized translation on X=Rn +×R, and establish the Plancherel formula on L2(X,dμ). Using the Gelfand transform we give the condition of generalized wavelets on L2(X,dμ). Moreover, we show the reconstruction formulas for wavelet packet trnasforms and an inversion formula of the Radon transform on X.

Particulate Amines in the Background Atmosphere of the Yangtze River delta,China:Concentration,Size distribution,and Sources

Amines are important for new particle formation and subsequent growth in the ***,the processes involved are receiving more attention in recent ***,we conduct a field observation in order to investigate the atmospheric particulate amines at a background site in the Yangtze River delta(YRd)during the summer of *** amines in PM_(2.5),i.e.,methylamine(MA),dimethylamine(dMA),diethylamine(deA),and trimethylamine(TMA),were collected,twice daily and *** the campaign,our measurements found the concentrations of MA,dMA,deA,and TMA of 15.0±15.0,6.3±6.9,20.4±30.1,and 4.0±5.9 ng m^-(3),respectively,and the four amines correlated well with each *** concentration of amines appear to be independent of whether they were collected during the day or *** MA and dMA exhibited a bimodal size distribution that had peaks at 0.67 and 1.1μm,suggesting amines preferably distribute on submicron *** layer height(BLH),relative humidity,and pH of aerosols were found have a negative relationship with amines,while aerosol liquid water content(ALWC)was found to have a positive relationship with *** PMF(positive matrix factorization)source apportionment results showed that the main source of amines in Chongming Island was of anthropogenic origin such as industrial and biomass emission,followed by marine sources including sea salt and marine biogenic *** that the YRd region is still suffering from complex atmospheric pollution and that the knowledge on aerosol amines is still limited,more field studies are in urgent need for a better understanding of the pollution characteristics of amines.

UAV-Aided Networks for emergency Communications in Areas with Unevenly distributed Users

Nowadays,daily human life is closely intertwined with various *** natural disasters or malicious attacks break out,the failure of communication infrastructure due to direct destruction or indirect impact tends to cause a massive outage of *** communication networks play a significant role in rescue ***,a flexible and efficient solution has been provided for emergency communications using unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs).By means of their excellent characteristics,UAVs,serving as aerial base stations(ABSs),can be rapidly deployed to temporarily rebuild a damaged communication network to restore the users’*** this study,we investigate the use of UAVs as ABSs for an emergency communication scene where user equipment is unevenly distributed and the communication infrastructure has completely failed.d.e.to a severe *** communication probability(eCP),which integrates throughput coverage and connectivity,is used to evaluate the performance of a communication *** simulations,we analyze communication improvements that can be obtained by the flexible deployment of *** results show a noticeable increase in eCP when some ABSs are deployed in optimal locations.

Recent studies have shown the potential of artificially synthesized conduits in the repair of peripheral nerve injury. Natural biopolymers have received much attention because of their biocompatibility. To investigate the effects of novel electrospun absorbable poly(ε-caprolactone)/type Ⅰ collagen nanofiber conduits(biopolymer nanofiber conduits) on the repair of peripheral nerve injury, we bridged 10-mm-long sciatic nerve defects with electrospun absorbable biopolymer nanofiber conduits, poly(ε-caprolactone) or silicone conduits in Sprague-dawley rats. Rat neurologica1 function was weekly evaluated using sciatic function index within8 weeks after repair. eight weeks after repair, sciatic nerve myelin sheaths and axon morphology were observed by osmium tetroxide staining, hematoxylin-eosin staining, and transmission electron microscopy.S-100(Schwann cell marker) and Cd4(inflammatory marker) immunoreactivities in sciatic nerve were detected by immunohistochemistry. In rats subjected to repair with electrospun absorbable biopolymer nanofiber conduits, no serious inflammatory reactions were observed in rat hind limbs, the morphology of myelin sheaths in the injured sciatic nerve was close to normal. Cd4 immunoreactivity was obviously weaker in rats subjected to repair with electrospun absorbable biopolymer nanofiber conduits than in those subjected to repair with poly(ε-caprolactone) or silicone. Rats subjected to repair with electrospun absorbable biopolymer nanofiber conduits tended to have greater sciatic nerve function recovery than those receiving poly(ε-caprolactone) or silicone repair. These results suggest that electrospun absorbable poly(ε-caprolactone)/type Ⅰ collagen nanofiber conduits have the potential of repairing sciatic nerve defects and exhibit good biocompatibility. All experimental procedures were approved by Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of Taichung Veteran General Hospital, Taiwan, China(La-1031218) on October 2, 2014.
