Hyperthermia is a promising method to enhance chemo and radiation therapy of breast cancer. In the process of hyperthermia, temperature monitoring is of great importance to assure the effectiveness of treatment. The transmission speed of ultrasound in biomedical tissue changes with temperature. However, when mapping the speed of sound directly to temperature in each pixel as desired for using all speeds of ultrasound data, temperature bipolar edge enhancement artifacts occur near the boundary of two tissues with different speeds of ultrasound. After the analysis of the reasons for causing these artifacts, an optimized method is introduced to rebuild the temperature field image by using the continuity constraint as the judgment criterion. The significant smoothness of the rebuilding image in the transitional area shows that our proposed method can build a more precise temperature image for controlling the medical thermal treatment.

Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) has evolved to become an important tool for the non-invasive examination of the small bowel, which hitherto had been relatively inaccessible to direct visualisation. VCE has been shown to play a role in monitoring the activity of small bowel Crohn’s disease and can be used to assess the response to anti-inflammatory treatment in Crohn’s disease. For those patients with Crohn’s disease who have undergone an intestinal resection, VCE has been assessed as a tool to detect post-operative recurrence. VCE may also aid in the reclassification of patients with a diagnosis of Inflammatory Bowel disease Unclassified to Crohn’s disease. The evolution of colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) has expanded the application of this technology further. The use of CCE to assess the activity of ulcerative colitis has been described. This advance in capsule technology has also fuelled interest in its potential role as a minimally invasive tool to assess the whole of GI tract opening the possibility of its use for the panenteric assessment of Crohn’s disease. VCE is a safe procedure. However, the risk of a retained capsule is higher in patients with suspected or confirmed Crohn’s disease compared with patients having VCE examination for other indications. A retained video capsule is rare after successful passage of a patency capsule which may be utilised to pre-screen patients undergoing VCE. This paper describes the use of VCE in the assessment of inflammatory bowel disease.

Morphological,anatomical,chemical and molecular data suggest that a relatively common lichenicolous coelomycete on Lecanora conizaeoides is conspecific with Phoma cytospora,previously known only from parmelioid lichens,and that further populations on Cladonia and Pertusaria belong to the same *** species is distinguished from Phoma by several taxonomically important characters and obviously represents a previously unrecognized genus,for which the name Briancoppinsia is *** analyses using nuLSU and mtSSU sequences of isolates obtained in pure culture suggest that the new genus belongs to the Arthoniaceae(Arthoniales).This is the first obligate lichenicolous,non-lichenized anamorph confirmed to belong to the Arthoniales based on molecular data.

Hyperthermia has proven to be beneficial to treating superficial malignancies, particularly chest wall recurrences of breast cancer. during hyperthermia, monitoring the time–temperature profiles in the target and surrounding areas is of great significance for the effect of therapy. An ultrasound-based temperature imaging method has advantages over other approaches. When the temperature around the tumor is calculated by using the propagation speed of ultrasound, there always exist overshoot artifacts along the boundary between different tissues. In this paper, we present a new method combined with empirical mode decomposition（EdM）, similarity constraint, and continuity constraint to optimize the temperature images. Simulation and phantom experiment results compared with those from our previously proposed method prove that the EMd-based method can build a better temperature field image, which can adaptively yield better temperature images with less computation for assistant medical treatment control.

Identification and characterization of genes that control fat deposition in chickens

Background： Fat deposits in chickens contribute significantly to meat quality attributes such as juiciness, flavor, taste and other organoleptic properties. The quantity of fat deposited increases faster and earlier in the fast- growing chickens than in slow-growing chickens. In this study, Affymetrix Genechip~ Chicken Genome Arrays 32773 transcripts were used to compare gene expression profiles in liver and hypothalamus tissues of fast-growing and slow-growing chicken at 8 wk of age. Real-time RT-PCR was used to validate the differential expression of genes selected from the microarray analysis. The mRNA expression of the genes was further examined in fat tissues. The association of single nucleotide polymorphisms of four lipid-related genes with fat traits was examined in a F2 resource population. Results： Four hundred genes in the liver tissues and 220 genes hypothalamus tissues, respectively, were identified to be differentially expressed in fast-growing chickens and slow-growing chickens. Expression levels of genes for lipid metabolism （SULTIB1, ACSBG2, PNPLA3, LPL, AOAH） carbohydrate metabolism （MGAT4B, XYLB, GBE1, PGM1, HkdCl）cholesttrol biosynthesis （FdPS, LSS, HMGCR, NSdHL, dHCR24, IdI1, MEI） HSd17B7 and other reaction or pro- cesses （CYPIA4, CYP1A1, AkR1BI, CYP4V2, ddO） were higher in the fast-growing White Recessive Rock chickens than in the slow-growing Xinghua chickens. On the other hand, expression levels of genes associated with multicellular organism development, immune response, dNA integration, melanin biosynthetic process, muscle organ develop- ment and oxidation-reduction （FRZB, dMd, FUT8, CYP2C45, dHRSX, and CYP2C18） and with glycol-metabolism （GCNT2, ELOVL d, and FASN）, were higher in the XH chickens than in the fast-growing chickens, fiT-PCR validated high expression levels of nine out of 12 genes in fat tissues. BACkGROUNd The xeroderma pigmentosum group G(XPG)gene at chromosome 13q33 consists of 15 exons,which may be related to the occurrence and development of gastric cancer(GC).AIM To examine the association of several common single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)of the XPG gene with GC risk and *** Five SNPs of XPG(rs2094258,rs751402,rs873601,rs2296147,and rs1047768)were genotyped by PCR restriction fragment length polymorphism in 956 histologically confirmed GC cases and 1012 controls in North *** patients were followed for survival status and,if deceased,cause of *** regression and Cox regression were used for analysing associations of XPG SNPs with risk of GC and prognosis,*** rs2094258,heterozygous model(CT vs CC),homozygous model(TT vs CC),recessive model(TT vs CT+CC),and dominant model(TT+CT vs CC)were *** None of the examined loci were statistically associated with GC risk,although rs2296147 was marginally associated with GC risk(P=0.050).GC patients with the rs2094258 CT+CC genotype showed worse survival than those with the TT genotype(log-rank test,P=0.028),and patients with the CC genotype had a tendency of unfavourable prognosis compared with those with the TT+CT genotype(log-rank test,P=0.039).The increase in C alleles of rs2094258[hazard ratio(HR)=1.19,95%confidence interval(CI):1.02-1.45,P=0.037]were associated with the long-term survival of GC *** risk factors for survival included tumor differentiation(HR=4.51,95%CI:1.99-8.23,Pd use of chemotherapy(HR=0.81,95%CI:0.63-0.98,P=0.041).CONCLUSION The XPG rs2094258 polymorphism may be associated with overall survival in GC patients.
