The resveratrol-enriched transgenic rice line Iksan526(IS526),first developed by the Rural development Administration of Korea using genetic engineering techniques,shows beneficial health effects in mitigating metabolic syndrome and ***,the effects of IS526 on the differentiation of chondrocytes and the underlying mechanism have not been investigated in *** this study,the effects and cellular regulatory mechanisms of IS526 on rabbit articular chondrocytes were *** IS526 callus extract treatment,the expression levels of differentiation-related proteins were detected via western blotting,Alcian blue staining and immune-luorescence ***526 decreased the type Ⅱ collagen and proteoglycan levels in dose-and time-dependent *** further analyzed the effects of IS526 on skeleton genesis in zebrafish larvae using Alcian blue staining,which showed a reduction in cartilage formation along with increased production of matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-***526 also increased the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and p38 kinase but inhibited the phosphorylation of *** inhibition of MMP-13 blocked the IS526-induced decrease in type Ⅱ collagen *** of p38 kinase or PI-3K/Akt with SB203580 and LY294002 enhanced the suppression of type Ⅱ collagen,but the blockage of ERK-1/2 by Pd98059 rescued IS526-induced *** results suggested that IS526 regulates type Ⅱ collagen and MMP-13 expression via the ERK1/2 and PI-3K/Akt pathways in rabbit articular chondrocytes.

Objective:To explore the anti-diabetic activity of Ecklonia cava(EC) in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic ***:diabetes was induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of STZ(90 mg/kg).Normal and diabetic mice were treated with 0%,3%,and 5%EC diet for 4 weeks. Serum glucose and insulin concentrations,serum lipid profile,oral glucose tolerance test,and liver and pancreaticβ-cell histopathological observations were *** addition,in vitro glucose-induced insulin secretion was determined using pancreaticβ-islet ***:EC supplementation significantly and dose-dependently decreased serum glucose concentration, and improved glucose homeostasis in diabetic mice by preventing loss ofβ-cell mass resulting in increase of insulin *** triglyceride and total cholesterol concentrations in the serum and liver were markedly reduced by EC treatment in STZ-diabetic ***,LdL-,and HdL-cholesterol levels were ameliorated in EC supplemented diabetic *** steatosis induced by STZ was ameliorated by EC ***,in vitro insulinotrophic effect of EC extract was observed in pancreaticβ-***:This study demonstrated that EC is a potent and efficacious hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic agent,and prevents the loss ofβ-cell mass resulting in increase of insulin secretary capacity.

Recently there have been exciting research advances in neuroprotective therapies for ischemic stroke. In the past, the search for neu- roprotective agents has been fraught with failure at the clinical trials stage due to numerous factors, including subject heterogeneity and improper therapeutic windows （Tymianski, 2017）. Moreover, it is becoming clearer that the complex and evolving pathobiology of stroke requires multimodal therapeutic approaches capable of modulating the numerous axes that contribute to ischemia/reperfusion damage, rather than targeting a single axis （Bernstock et al., 2018a）. With the success of recent endovascular thrombectomy （EVT） trials, it has been suggested that clinical trials of EVT with adjunct neuroprotection can overcome past difficulties and maximize the effect size by using imaging to reduce patient heterogeneity （i. e., selecting those with large vessel occlusions, small ischemic cores, and good collateral circulation）, restoring perfusion using better EVT devices, and enrolling patients in the correct therapeutic window （i.e., when they still have salvageable brain tissue）（Tymianski, 2017）. Considering the opportunity that this represents for new, better clinical trials of neuroprotective agents, the search is on for high-potential compounds that may be investigated in these future studies.

Acute liver failure （ALF） is relatively frequent during heat stroke （HS）. This risk must be emphasized, because its inddence is higher than is usually thought. In a recent study by Weigand et al, two cases were reported in which liver failure was the leading symptom. We have confirmed their conclusion in a study of 25 cases of HS with ALF, compared with 25 other cases without ALE Moreover, we observed that hypophosphatemia on admission could predict occurrence of ALF during HS. As for clinical and other biological parameters, phosphatemia should be monitored for at least 3 d in all cases of HS, even when it is thought to be mild.

Background： The global network of eddy-covariance （EC） flux-towers has improved the understanding of the terrestrial carbon （C） cycle, however, the network has a relatively limited spatial extent compared to forest inventory data and plots. developing methods to use inventory-based and EC flux measurements together with modeling approaches is necessary evaluate forest C dynamics across broad spatial extents. Methods： Changes in C stock change （AC） were computed based on repeated measurements of forest inventory plots and compared with separate measurements of cumulative net ecosystem productivity （~NEP） over four years （2003 - 2006） for douglas-fir （Pseudotsuga menzies# var menziesil} dominated regeneration （HdF00）, juvenile （HdF88 and HdF90） and near-rotation （dF49） aged stands （6, 18, 20, 57 years old in 2006, respectively） in coastal British Columbia. AC was determined from forest inventory plot data alone, and in a hybrid approach using inventory data along with litter fall data and published decay equations to determine the change in detrital pools. These AC-based estimates were then compared with Y_NEP measured at an eddy-covariance flux-tower （EC-flux） and modelled by the Carbon Budget Model - Canadian Forest Sector （CBM-CFS3） using historic forest inventory and forest disturbance data. Footprint analysis was used with remote sensing, soils and topography data to evaluate how well the inventory plots represented the range of stand conditions within the area of the flux-tower footprint and to spatially scale the plot data to the area of the EC-flux and model based estimates, Results： The closest convergence among methods was for the juvenile stands while the largest divergences were for the regenerating clearcut, followed by the near-rotation stand. At the regenerating clearcut, footprint weighting of CBM-CFS3 TNEP increased convergence with EC flux Z_NEP, but not for AC. Bamboo salt(BS) is a traditional Korean food, and has been reported to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-metastatic effects. However, the anti-atopic dermatitis(Ad) activity of BS has not been described yet. In the present study, we examined the preventive effect of BS on Ad. The effect of oral administration of BS was tested in a 2, 4-dinitrofluorobenzene(dNFB)-induced Ad animal model, by histological analysis, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, caspase-1 assay, and Western blotting analysis. BS administration reduced the total clinical severity and scratching frequencies, compared with the Ad group. In the serum of dNFB-induced Ad mice, the levels of IgE, histamine, thymic stromal lymphopoietin(TSLP), interleukin(IL)-5, and IL-13 were significantly reduced by BS treatment. BS significantly reduced the protein and mRNA expression of TSLP, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α in the Ad skin lesions. BS markedly reduced the infiltration of inflammatory cells. Furthermore, the activation of caspase-1 was reduced by BS in the Ad skin lesions. Our results suggested that BS should be considered as a candidate treatment for allergic inflammatory diseases including Ad.
