Objective: To reveal the d.stribution characteristics and.d.mographic factors of trad.tional Chinese med.cine (TCM) constitution among eld.rly ind.vid.als in China. Method.: Eld.rly ind.vid.als from seven regions in China were selected.as samples in this stud. using a multistage cluster rand.m sampling method. The basic information questionnaire and.Constitution in Chinese Med.cine Questionnaire (Eld.rly Ed.tion) were used. d.scriptive statistical analysis, chi-squared.tests, and.binary logistic regression analysis were used. Results: The single balanced.constitution (BC) accounted.for 23.9%. The results of the major TCM constitution types showed.that BC (43.2%) accounted.for the largest proportion and.unbalanced.constitutions ranged.from 0.9% to 15.7%. East China region (od.s ratio [OR] = 2.097; 95% confid.nce interval [CI], 1.912 to 2.301), married.status (OR = 1.341; 95% CI, 1.235 to 1.457), and.managers (OR = 1.254; 95% CI, 1.044 to 1.505) were significantly associated.with BC. Age >70 years was associated.with qi-d.ficiency constitution and.blood.stasis constitution (BSC). Female sex was significantly associated.with yang-d.ficiency constitution (OR = 1.646; 95% CI, 1.52 to 1.782). Southwest region was significantly associated.with phlegm-d.mpness constitution (OR = 1.809; 95% CI, 1.569 to 2.086). North China region was significantly associated.with inherited.special constitution (OR = 2.521; 95% CI, 1.569 to 4.05). South China region (OR = 2.741; 95% CI, 1.997 to 1.3.763), Central China region (OR = 8.889; 95% CI, 6.676 to 11.835), senior mid.le school ed.cation (OR = 2.442; 95% CI, 1.932 to 3.088), and.managers (OR = 1.804; 95% CI, 1.21 to 2.69) were significantly associated.with BSC. Conclusions: This stud. d.fined.the d.stribution characteristics and.d.mographic factors of TCM constitution in the eld.rly population. Allicin, an antioxid.nt, is known for provid.ng garlic with its unique fragrance and.taste, as well as for its antimicrobial properties. Black garlic, a fermented.form of garlic, contains higher levels of antioxid.nts than fresh garlic. Antioxid.nts play a vital role in alleviating cellular stress d.ring viral infections. Viral infections result in oxid.tive stress through the prod.ction of reactive oxid.tive species (ROS). A prolonged.state of oxid.tive stress can result in cell d.ath, d.A d.mage, and.d.sease progression. In this stud., black garlic extract (BGE) is evaluated.for its ability to mitigate cytopathic effects and.oxid.tive stress caused.by herpes simplex virus-2 (hSV-2) infections in vitro. Antiviral assays were performed.to d.termine the percent of viral inhibition resulting from treatment with the BGE. ROS-GloTM h2O2 assays were then completed.to measure the post-infection ROS levels of BGE-treated.virus and.cells. The results thus far suggest that BGE may inhibit viral infection and.d.crease levels of oxid.tive stress.

Norovirus (NoV) infection is a major cause of gastroenteritis world.id.. The virus poses great challenges in d.veloping vaccines with broad.immune protection d.e to its genetic and.antigenic d.versity. To d.te, there are no approved.NoV vaccines for clinical use. here, we aimed.to d.velop a broad.acting quad.ivalent NoV vaccine based.on a chimpanzee ad.novirus vector, Ad.68, carrying the major capsid.protein (VP1) of noroviral GI and.GII genotypes. Compared.to intramuscular (i.m.), intranasal (i.n.), or other prime-boost immunization regimens (i.m. + i.m., i.m. + i.n., i.n. + i.m.), Ad.68-GI.1-GII.3 (E1)-GII.4-GII.17 (E3), ad.inistered.via i.n. + i.n. ind.ced.higher titers of serum IgG antibod.es and.higher IgA antibod.es in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid.(BALF) and.saliva against the four homologous VP1s in mice. It also significantly stimulated.the prod.ction of blocking antibod.es against the four genotypes. In response to re-stimulation with virus-like particles (VLP)-GI.1, VLP-GII.3, VLP-GII.4, and.VLP-GII.17, the quad.ivalent vaccine ad.inistered.accord.ng to the i.n. + i.n. regimen effectively triggered.specific cell-med.ated.immune responses, primarily characterized.by IFN-γ secretion. Furthermore, the preparation of this novel quad.ivalent NoV vaccine requires only a single recombinant ad.novirus to provid. broad.preventive immunity against the major GI/GII epid.mic strains, making it a promising vaccine cand.d.te for further d.velopment. © 2024 The Authors

Objective: To assess the efficacy and.safety of combining trad.tional Chinese med.cine (TCM), specifically Chinese herbal med.cine (ChM), with Western med.cine (WM), compared.to WM alone to treat breast cancer end.crine therapy-related.osteoporosis (BCET-OP) by meta-analysis. Method.: Thirty-eight rand.mized.controlled.trials involving 2170 participants were analyzed. Eight d.tabases were searched.for articles published.between inception and.d.cember 2023. Quality assessment was performed.using the Risk of Bias 2 tool. Results: Significant increases were observed.in the TCM-WM group in lumbar vertebrae bone mineral d.nsity (BMd. (P d.fference (Md. = 0.07, 95% confid.nce interval (CI): 0.06 to 0.08), lumbar vertebrae T-score (P = 0.0005, Md.= 0.21, 95%CI: 0.09 to 0.33) and.collum femoris BMd.(P = 0.01, Md.= 0.10, 95%CI: 0.02 to 0.19). No significant d.fference was observed.between the groups in the collum femoris T-score and.estrad.ol levels. Bone gla-protein levels were significantly increased.in the TCM-WM group (P = 0.0002, Md.= 0.52, 95%CI: 0.25 to 0.79). Beta-CrossLaps d.creased.significantly in the TCM-WM group (P = 0.0008, Md.= −0.10, 95%CI: −0.16 to −0.04). No significant d.fference was observed.between the TCM-WM and.WM groups in alkaline phosphatase, in procollagen type I N-terminal propeptid., and.in the Kupperman ind.x. The visual analog score (VAS) was d.creased.in the TCM-WM group compared.to the WM group (P d.= −1.40, 95%CI: −1.94 to −0.87). No significant d.fference in ad.erse events was observed.between the two groups. Conclusion: Combining ChM with WM in patients with BCET-OP significantly improved.BMd. T-score, and.certain bone turnover markers and.red.ced.the VAS score, ind.cating potential benefits for bone health and.related.pain. The risk of rad.ation-ind.ced.second.cancer and.the late tissue loss d.e to Off-field.d.ses in rad.otherapy remain a serious concern. Monte Carlo (MC) simulation is currently one of the most accurate method. for calculating these d.ses. MC simulation mod.l based.on the Particle Simulation Tool (TOPAS) has been d.veloped.to simulate the off-field.d.se of an Elekta Synergy linear accelerator (Linac) emitting 6 MV photons. Measurements were taken in a water phantom using an ionization chamber to valid.te this mod.l. The Percentage d.pth d.se (Pd.) at the d.pth of 0.0, 5.0, 10.0 and.15.0 cm from the beam axis for a 10 × 10 cm2 field.size was measured.and.simulated. Off-field.d.se profiles at the d.pth of 1.5 (d.ax), 5.0 and.10.0 cm for field.sizes of 5 × 5, 10 × 10, 15 × 15, and.20 × 20 cm2 respectively were measured.and.simulated. Comparison of measured.and.simulated.off-field.d.se values showed.a good.agreement. The average gamma passing rate of the Pd.s and.profiles curves for off-field.d.ses were 87.5% and.98.11% respectively. The local d.se d.fference based.on the Pd. curve between the measured.and.simulated.was less than 6.0 % for all locations. For all field.size consid.red.in this stud., the average d.fference between profile curves for off-field.d.se measured.and.simulated.was 9.1%. Pd.s and.Profiles curves for off-field.d.se simulation uncertainties were less than 2.0% and.1.0% respectively. TOPAS-MC simulation mod.l d.veloped.is a good.representation of our 6 MV Linac Elekta Synergy for assessing off-field.d.se, which would.be the primary cause of some second.ry cancers.
