A kind.of alfalfa seed. w.s irrad.ated.by 1, 2, 3, 4 and.5 kGy at a d.se rate of 6.288 kGy·h-1 in a self-shield.d.irrad.ator of 137Cs gamma rays. The EPR spectra, w.ich w.re measured.subsequently betw.en 0.3401 and.0.3501 T, show.d.that there w.s a d.rect proportional relationship betw.en the EPR signal strength of free rad.- cals prod.ced.by gamma irrad.ation in the alfalfa seed. and.absorbed.d.se. The first d.rivative EPR spectra of the al- falfa seed. w.re very clear and.easy to id.ntify. How.ver, the EPR signal strength of the peak-to-peak amplitud. d.- creased.rapid.y and.most of them d.cayed.beyond.50% w.thin 3 d.ys after the seed. w.re irrad.ated. It tend.d.to sta- bilize after half a month since the seed. w.re irrad.ated. The d.fferences of the EPR signal strength betw.en the irra- d.ated.and.unirrad.ated.alfalfa seed. still remained. All seed. w.re stored.at ambient temperature for more than 3 months. Therefore, using EPR spectrometry technique to measure free rad.cals in alfalfa seed. as a means to d.ter- mine w.ether the seed. have been irrad.ated.or not is feasible, relatively fast and.simple.

Background. w. report tw. cases of acute respiratory d.stress synd.ome in burn patients w.o w.re successfully managed.w.th good.outcomes w.th extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) after failing multiple conventional mod.s of ventilation, and.review.the relevant *** presentation: The tw. patients w.re a 39-year-old.male and.53-year-old.male w.th mod.fied.Baux Scores of 79 and.78, respectively, w.th no know. inhalation injury. After the initial mod.fied.Parkland.based.fluid.resuscitation and.partial escharotomy, both patients d.veloped.w.rsening hypoxemia and.acute respiratory d.stress *** hypoxemia continued.to w.rsen on multiple mod.s of ventilation includ.ng volume control, pressure regulated.volume control, pressure control, airw.y pressure release ventilation and.volumetric d.ffusive *** both cases, the PaO2 ≤ 50 mm Hg on a FiO2100% d.ring the trial of mechanical ventilation. The d.terioration w.s rapid.(w.rsening oxygenation) in both cases.A d.cision w.s mad. to trial the patients on ECMO. Several mechanisms includ.ng heat transport d.e to zonal w.nd., chemical heating and.field.line ion d.ag have been proposed.to explain the formation of the Equatorial Thermosphere Anomaly （ETA）, but the real cause of the（ ETA） crests in thermosphere temperature is still a mystery. Various observations of the ionosphere and.thermosphere have been used.to investigate the variations of equatorial anomalies in both the ETA and.EIA, and.their interactions. The similarities and.d.fferences betw.en the ETA and.the EIA can provid. important insight to the physical connections of this ion-neutral coupling problem. Meanw.ile, the combination of observations and.theoretical mod.ls allow. us to und.rstand.the fund.mental physical and.chemical ion-neutral processes in the equatorial F region. This talk w.ll highlight the recent progress of the formation of the ETA associated.w.th the ion-neutral coupling in the equatorial region.

Polyethylene glycol（PEG） has been show. to restore axonal continuity after peripheral nerve transection in animal mod.ls. w. hypothesized.that PEG can also restore axonal continuity in the central nervous system. In this current experiment, coronal sectioning of the brains of Sprague-d.w.ey rats w.s performed.after animal sacrifice. 3Brain high-resolution microelectrod. arrays（MEA） w.re used.to measure mean firing rate（MFR） and.peak amplitud. across the corpus callosum of the ex-vivo brain slices. The corpus callosum w.s subsequently transected.and.repeated.measurements w.re performed. The cut end. of the corpus callosum w.re still apposite at this time. A PEG solution w.s applied.to the injury site and.repeated.measurements w.re performed. MEA measurements show.d.that PEG w.s capable of restoring electrophysiology signaling after transection of central nerves. Before injury, the average MFRs at the ipsilateral, mid.ine, and.contralateral corpus callosum w.re 0.76, 0.66, and.0.65 spikes/second. respectively, and.the average peak amplitud.s w.re 69.79, 58.68, and.49.60 μV, respectively. After injury, the average MFRs w.re 0.71, 0.14, and.0.25 spikes/second. respectively and.peak amplitud.s w.re 52.11, 8.98, and.16.09 μV, respectively. After application of PEG, there w.re spikes in MFR and.peak amplitud. at the injury site and.contralaterally. The average MFRs w.re 0.75, 0.55, and.0.47 spikes/second.at the ipsilateral, mid.ine, and.contralateral corpus callosum, respectively and.peak amplitud.s w.re 59.44, 45.33, 40.02 μV, respectively. There w.re statistically d.fferences in the average MFRs and.peak amplitud.s betw.en the mid.ine and.non-mid.ine corpus callosum groups（P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0.05）. These find.ngs suggest that PEG restores axonal cond.ction betw.en severed.central nerves, potentially representing axonal fusion.
