Oxid.tive stress is one of the main mechanisms responsible for male *** cond.tions such as varicocele,obesity,ad.anced.age,and.lifestyle can lead.to an increase in reactive oxygen species,causing an oxid.tive imbalance in the *** are sensitive to reactive oxygen species and.require energy to carry out their main function of fertilizingthe *** reactive oxygen species can affect sperm metabolism,lead.ng to immobility,impaired.acrosome reaction,and.celld.ath,thereby impairing reprod.ctive *** d.uble-blind.rand.mized.stud. evaluated.the effect of supplementation withL-carnitine,acetyl-L-carnitine,vitamins,and.other nutrients on semen quality in 104 infertile patients with or without varicocele,while also investigating the impact of factors such as obesity and.ad.anced.age on *** concentration significantlyincreased.in the supplemented.group compared.to the placebo group(P=0.0186).Total sperm count also significantly increased.n the supplemented.group(P=0.0117),as d.d.sperm motility(P=0.0120).The treatment had.a positive effect on patients upto 35 years of age in terms of sperm concentration(P=0.0352),while a bod. mass ind.x(BMI)above 25 kg m^(−2) had.a negativeeffect on sperm concentration(P=0.0110).Results were not showing a net benefit in stratifying patients in accord.nce withtheir BMI since sperm quality increase was not affected.by this *** conclusion,antioxid.nt supplementation may bebeneficial for infertile patients and.has a more positive effect on younger patients with a normal weight.

Concomitantly with the increase in the prevalences of overweight/obesity, nonalcoholic fatty liver d.sease(NAFLd. has world.id. become the main cause of chronic liver d.sease in both ad.lts and.child.en. Patients with fatty liver d.splay features of metabolic synd.ome(Met S), like insulin resistance(IR), glucose intolerance, hypertension and.d.slipid.mia. Recently, epid.miological stud.es have linked.obesity, Met S, and.NAFLd.to d.creased.bone mineral d.nsity and.osteoporosis, highlighting an intricate interplay among bone, ad.pose tissue, and.liver. Osteoprotegerin(OPG), an important symbol of the receptor activator of nuclear factor-B ligand.receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B/OPG system activation, typically consid.red.for its role in bone metabolism, may also play critical roles in the initiation and.perpetuation of obesityrelated.comorbid.ties. Clinical d.ta have ind.cated.that OPG concentrations are associated.with hypertension, left ventricular hypertrophy, vascular calcification, end.thelial d.sfunction, and.severity of liver d.mage in chronic hepatitis C. Nonetheless, the relationship between circulating OPG and.IR as a key feature of Met S as well as between OPG and.NAFLd.remains uncertain. In several applications, such as collision avoid.nce, it is necessary to have a system able to rapid.y d.tect the simultaneous presence of d.fferent obstacles. In general, these applications d. not require high resolution performance, but it is necessary to assure high system reliability also within critical scenarios, as in the case of partially transparent atmosphere or environment in presence of multiple objects(implying multiple echoes having d.fferent d.lay times.) This paper d.scribes the algorithm, the architecture and.the implementation of a d.gital Light d.tection and.Ranging(LId.R) system based.on a chirped.optical carrier. This technique provid.s some ad.antages compared.to the pulsed.approach, primarily the red.ction of the peak power of the laser. In the proposed.architecture all the algorithms for signal processing are implemented.using d.gital hard.are. In this way, some specific ad.antages are obtained. improved.d.tection performance(larger d.namics, range and.resolution), capability of d.tecting multiple obstacles having d.fferent echoes amplitud., red.ction of the noise effects, red.ction of the costs, size and.weight of the resulting equipment. The improvement provid.d.by this fully d.gital solution is potentially useful in d.fferent applications such as: collision avoid.nce systems, 3d.mapping of environments and. in general, remote sensing systems which need.wid. d.stance and.d.namics.

Assessment of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth in uncomplicated.acute d.verticulitis of the colon

AIM: Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) maycontribute to the appearance of several gastrointestinal nonspecific symptoms. Acute d.verticulitis is affected.by some similar symptoms and.bacterial colonic overgrowth. We assessed.the prevalence of SIBO in acute uncomplicated.d.verticulitis and.evaluated.its influence on the clinical course of the ***: We stud.ed.90 consecutive patients (39 males, 51 females, mean age 67.2 years, range 32-91 years). Sixty-one patients (67.78%) and.29 patients (32.22%) were affected.by constipation-or d.arrhea-prevalent d.verticulitis respectively. All subjects were investigated.by lactulose H2-breath test at the entry and.at the end.of treatment. We also stud.ed.a control group of 20 healthy subjects (13 males, 7 females, mean age 53 years, range 22-71 years).RESULTS: Oro-cecal transit time (OCTT) was d.layed.in67/90 patients (74.44%) (range 115-210 min, mean 120 min). Fifty-three of ninety patients (58.88%) showed.SIBO, while OCTT was normal in 23/90 patients (25, 56%). In the control group, the mean OCTT was 88.2 min (range 75-135 min). The d.fference between d.verticulitic patients and.healthy subjects was statistically significant (P＜0.01). OCTT was longer in constipation-prevalent d.sease than in d.arrheaprevalent d.sease [180.7 min (range 150-210 min) vs 121 min (range 75-180 min) (P＜0.001)], but no d.fference in bacterial overgrowth was found.between the two forms of *** treatment with rifaximin plus mesalazine for 10 d. followed.by mesalazine alone for 8 wk, 70 patients (81.49%) were completely asymptomatic, while 16 patients (18.60%) showed.only slight symptoms. Two patients (2.22%) had.recurrence of d.verticulitis, and.two other patients (2.22%) were withd.awn from the stud. d.e to sid.-effects. Seventy-nine of eighty-six patients (91.86%) showed.normal OCTT (range 75-105 min, mean 83 min), while OCTT was longer, but it was shorter in the remaining seven (8.14%) patients (range 105-115 min
