Biodegradability of bioplastics in different aquatic environments:A systematic review

Bioplastics were first introduced as environmentally friendly materials,with properties similar to those of conventional plastics.A bioplastic is defined as biodegradable if it can be decomposed into carbon dioxide under aerobic degradation,or methane and CO_(2)under anaerobic conditions,inorganic compounds,and new cellular biomass,by the action of naturally occurring *** definition however does not provide any information on the environmental conditions,timescale and extent at which decomposition processes should *** regard to the aquatic environment,recognized standards have been established to assess the ability of plastics to undergo biodegradation;however,these standards fail to provide clear targets to be met to allow labelling of a bioplastic as ***,these standards grant the user an extensive leeway in the choice of process *** these reasons,the comparison of results deriving from different studies is *** authors analysed and discussed the degree of biodegradability of a series of biodegradable bioplastics in aquatic environments(both fresh and salt water)using the results obtained in the laboratory and from on-site testing in the context of different research *** Oxygen Demand(BOD),CO_(2)evolution,surface erosion and weight loss were the main parameters used by researchers to describe the percentage of *** results showed a large variability both in weight loss and BOD,even when evaluating the same type of *** confirms the need for a reference range of values to be established with regard to parameters applied in defining the biodegradability of bioplastics.

After the study of circulating tumor cells in blood through liquid biopsy(LB),this technique has evolved to encompass the analysis of multiple materials originating from the tumor,such as nucleic acids,extracellular vesicles,tumor-educated platelets,and other ***,research has extended to include the examination of samples other than blood or plasma,such as saliva,gastric juice,urine,or *** techniques are diverse,intricate,and *** must be highly sensitive,and pre-analytical,patient,and tumor-related factors significantly influence the detection threshold,diagnostic method selection,and potential ***,the implementation of LB in clinical practice still faces several *** potential applications of LB range from early cancer detection to guiding targeted therapy or immunotherapy in both early and advanced cancer cases,monitoring treatment response,early identification of relapses,or assessing patient *** the other hand,gastric cancer(GC)is a disease often diagnosed at advanced *** recent advances in molecular understanding,the currently available treatment options have not substantially improved the prognosis for many of these *** application of LB in GC could be highly valuable as a non-invasive method for early diagnosis and for enhancing the management and outcomes of these *** this comprehensive review,from a pathologist’s perspective,we provide an overview of the main options available in LB,delve into the fundamental principles of the most studied techniques,explore the potential utility of LB application in the context of GC,and address the obstacles that need to be overcome in the future to make this innovative technique a game-changer in cancer diagnosis and treatment within clinical practice.

Almost every country requires some form of environmental licensing prior to the inception of development projects that may affect the integrity of the environment and its social *** developed a new conceptual and methodological model to instruct the assessment of the potential impacts posed by proposed *** to Human Interventions for Environmental Licensing Determination(SHIELD)includes a novel geomorphological interpretation of the Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA).It considers the impact of human interventions on geomorphological processes and landscape functioning in the context of the entire ecosystem,going further than the classical concept of *** susceptibility of the site informs the screening stage,allowing local conditions to help define the criteria used in the ***,the level of detail of the environmental baseline is scoped by considering the degree of disturbance of natural processes posed by human *** this geomorphological susceptibility model on different kinds of environments would allow shifting the environmental licensing practices from the prevailing anthropocentric and static conception of the environment towards an Ecosystem *** addresses the need to improve the screening and scoping stages that form the basis of the rest of any *** introduces several innovations to EIA including the incorporation of fuzzy logic,a preassembled database of contributions form experts,and a shifting of emphasis from the type of proposed intervention to the type of environment and its relative susceptibility.

Carvedilol is a chiral drug with potent antihypertensive and antianginal activities. Although it is clinically used as a racemic mixture, its enantiomers show different pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles. Here, the direct chiral separation of racemic drug by high performance liquid chromatography using two immobilized-type amylose-based chiral stationary phases is presented. Some chromatographic parameters, such as retention and selectivity, were determined under multimodal eluent conditions and different temperatures. A temperature-dependent inversion of the elution order of enantiomers was observed in the operative temperature range of chiral chromatographic support. Finally, an effective direct enantioselective method was successfully applied to the separation of the enantiomers of carvedilol on a semipreparative scale.

Evolutionary consequences of deception： Complexity and informational content of colony signature are favored by social parasitism

Nestmate recognition codes show remarkable chemical complexity, involving multiple biochemical pathways. This complexity provides the opportunity to evaluate the ecological and social conditions that favor the evolution of complex signaling. We investigated how the chemical signatures of three populations of the social paper wasp Polistes biglumis differed in terms of concentration of hydrocarbons, proportions of branched hydrocarbons and overall variation. We tested whether the variation in chemical signatures among populations could be explained by the prevalence of social parasites or whether this was just an effect of local abiotic conditions which influenced the composition of the hydrocarbon cuticular layer. We studied the chemical signa- ture in three populations in which obligate social parasites differed in the selection pressures they imposed on host populations. Within each population, we restricted our analyses to non-parasitized hosts, to avoid potential short-term effects of parasite pres- ence on the host chemical signatures. We found that host colonies in parasitized populations had more diverse profiles than the parasite-free population. moreover, the overall concentration of hydrocarbons and the relative proportion of branched hydrocar- bons were larger in the parasitized populations, relative to the non-parasitized one. This is to our knowledge the first evidence in favour of the hypothesis that different traits in the host chemical signatures as a whole undergo evolutionary changes resulting from directional or balancing selection imposed by social parasites. We conclude that obligate social parasites act as ＇engines of diversity＇ on host chemical signatures and operate in favor of a geographic mosaic of diverging communication codes

One of the problems in virtual globes technologies is the real-time representation of vegetal *** forest or garden representations,the low detailed plants produce a lack of *** techniques are required to achieve accurate interactive visualisation due to the great number of polygons the vegetal species *** article presents a multi-resolution model based on a geometric representation of vegetal species that allows the application to perform the progressive transmission of the model,that is,the transmission of a simple representation followed by successive refinements of *** has a hardware-oriented design in order to obtain interactive frame *** geometric data of the objects are stored in the graphics processing unit and,moreover,the change from one approximation to another is obtained by performing mathematical calcula-tions in this graphics *** multi-resolution model presented here enables instancing:as many vegetal species as desired can be rendered with different levels of detail,while all of them are accessing the same geometric *** model has been used to build a real-time representation of a not imaginary scenario.
