Cardiovascular disease risk factor profiles in children with celiac disease on gluten-free diets

AIM:To describe the cardiovascular disease(CVD)risk factors in a population of children with celiac disease(CD)on a gluten-free diet(GFD).METHODS:This cross-sectional multicenter study was performed at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel(Petach Tiqva,Israel),and San Paolo Hospital(Milan,Italy).We enrolled 114 CD children in serologic remission,who were on a GFD for at least one *** enrollment,anthropometric measurements,blood lipids and glucose were assessed,and compared to values at *** homeostasis model assessment-estimated insulin resistance was calculated as a measure of insulin ***:Three or more concomitant CVD risk factors[body mass index,waist circumference,low density lipoprotein(LDL)cholesterol,triglycerides,blood pressure and insulin resistance]were identified in 14%of CD subjects on a *** most common CVD risk factors were high fasting triglycerides(34.8%),elevated blood pressure(29.4%),and high concentrations of calculated LDL cholesterol(24.1%).On a GFD,four children(3.5%)had insulin *** insulin and HOMA-IR were significantly higher in the Italian cohort compared to the Israeli cohort(P<0.001).Children on a GFD had an increased prevalence of borderline LDL cholesterol(24%)when compared to values(10%)at diagnosis(P=0.090).Trends towards increases in overweight(from 8.8%to 11.5%)and obesity(from 5.3%to 8.8%)were seen on a ***:This report of insulin resistance and CVD risk factors in celiac children highlights the importance of CVD screening,and the need for dietary counseling targeting CVD prevention.

Calcium phosphate cements (CPC) are currently widely used bone replacement materials with excellent bioactivity, but have considerable disadvantages like slow degradation. For critical-sized defects, however, an improved degradation is essential to match the tissue regeneration, especially in younger patients who are still growing. We demonstrate that a combination of CPC with mesoporous bioactive glass (MBG) particles led to an enhanced degradation in vitro and in a critical alveolar cleft defect in rats. Additionally, to support new bone formation the MBG was functionalized with hypoxia conditioned medium (HCM) derived from rat bone marrow stromal cells. HCM-functionalized scaffolds showed an improved cell proliferation and the highest formation of new bone volume. This highly flexible material system together with the drug delivery capacity is adaptable to patient specific needs and has great potential for clinical translation.

Chikungunya virus(CHIKV) is a mosquito-borne emerging pathogen that has a major health impact in humans in tropical zones around the globe.A new variant of the virus,A226V,originating in East Africa,caused a large outbreak in the Indian Ocean islands and India during *** CHIKV outbreaks were reported in 2010 in China,and the virus was inferred to be the new A226V *** clarify the hypothesis,27 sera were collected from cases from the two outbreaks,and nucleic acid and antibody tests for CHIKV were performed using Real-time RT-PCR and indirect *** isolation was subjected to the positive samples for Real-time RT-PCR,and four viral genomes from two outbreaks were sequenced,characterized and phylogeneticly *** results show 13 samples positive for *** and five samples were tested with IgM and IgG against CHIKV *** of the five virus strains were successfully *** analysis revealed four viruses had a closest relationship(99.4～99.6% identify) with the Singapore 2008 isolate belonging to the Indian clad.A common mutation at the site of the A226V E1 protein was observed among four *** and three aa substitutions occurred in the Donggyan and Yangjiang outbreak strains *** can be concluded that the new A226V variant of CHIKV that originated in Southeast Asia caused two outbreaks in China in 2010.

The school placement processes of students from immigrant backgrounds considered to be in“difficulty”is an international concern at the intersection of works relating to special education and those concerning the school experiences of students from immigrant backgrounds or racialized *** research problem of this article concerns the identification of these students as disabled or as having adjustment or learning *** a perspective anchored in Disability Critical Race Studies,this ethnographic study documents different interpretations of perceived difficulties made by school actors with regard to seven primary school students from immigrant *** interpretation types are presented:(1)medicalization by dismissal of cultural markers,(2)medicalization by professional constraint,(3)medicalization by cultural deficit,(4)precautionary wait,and(5)cultural *** results help to shed light on the special education overrepresentation phenomenon regarding these students and to understand how ableism and(neo)racism contribute to it.

BACKGROUND Individuals with heart failure(HF) frequently experience limitations in mobility, but specific aspects of these limitations are not well understood. This study investigated the association of HF severity, based on the New York Heart Association(NYHA) classes, with digital mobility outcomes(DMOs) and handgrip strength in older inpatients with *** For this explorative analysis, hospital admission and discharge data from an ongoing, prospective cohort study were used. The sample included older participants with HF and a sub-sample of heart-healthy individuals. Participants were equipped with a wearable inertial measurement unit(IMU) system during mobility performance(balancing, sit-to-stand transfer,walking). We analyzed the association between 17 DMOs and HF severity with multiple linear regression *** The total sample included 61 older participants(65–97 years of age, 55.7% female). Of all DMOs, only sway path in a semi-tandem stance position(m/s^(2)) showed a relevant association with NYHA classes(admission: β =-0.28, P = 0.09;discharge:β =-0.39, P = 0.02). Handgrip strength showed a trend towards a significant association(admission: β =-0.15, P = 0.10;discharge:β =-0.15, P = 0.19).CONCLUSIONS This is to our best knowledge the first analysis on the association of HF severity and IMU-based DMOs. Sway path and handgrip strength may be the most promising parameters for monitoring mobility aspects in treatment of HF.

Energetic Balance for the Flow Induced by a Constantly Accelerating Plate in a Second Grade Fluid

In the autumn of 2010,a large outbreak was reported in Guangdong Province through the acute viral conjunctivitis (AHC) surveillance system,resulting in more than 69,000 *** the 69,635 cases reported during the August-October period in 2010,73.5 % of index cases originated from students,children in kindergarten and workers in *** male to female ratio was 1.84:1 among 0-19 years.56 representative specimens collected from different regions in Guangdong Province were used for virus isolation and molecular-based ***24v was confirmed as the etiological pathogen of the ***,the phylogenetic analysis for the VP1 and 3C region on the viral genome was performed for 16 CA24v isolates,with results indicating that they belonged to the same genomic group ***,full nucleotide sequences for two representative isolates in 2010 were determined and compared with others,and frequent protein mutations were found in the multiple *** conclusion,a CA24v strain caused the 2010 AHC outbreak in Guangdong *** were the main population *** population density,an adaptive climate,and new mutations in the viral nucleic acids and proteins may have contributed to the outbreak.

Dissipation, power due to the shear stress at the wall and the boundary layer thickness corresponding to the unsteady flow of a second grade fluid, due to a constantly accelerating plate, are established in exact and approximate forms. The changing of the kinetic energy with time is also determined from the energetic balance. Exact expressions of the same entities for Newtonian fluids are recovered as limiting cases of general results.
