Accumulating studies have been conducted to identify risk genes and relevant biological mechanisms underlying major depressive disorder(MDD).In particular,transcriptomic analyses in brain regions engaged in cognitive and emotional processes,e.g.,the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFC),have provided essential *** on three independent DLPFC RNA-seq datasets of 79 MDD patients and 75 healthy controls,we performed differential expression analyses using two alternative approaches for *** also conducted transcriptomic analyses in mice undergoing chronic variable stress(CVS)and chronic social defeat stress(CSDS).We identified 12 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)through both analytical methods in MDD patients,the majority of which were also dysregulated in stressed ***,the mRNA level of the immediate early gene FOS(Fos proto-oncogene)was significantly decreased in both MDD patients and CVS-exposed mice,and CSDSsusceptible mice exhibited a greater reduction in Fos expression compared to resilient *** findings suggest the potential key roles of this gene in the pathogenesis of MDD related to stress *** transcriptomes in the DLPFC of MDD patients might be,at least partially,the result of stress exposure,supporting that stress is a primary risk factor for MDD.

Development and validation of a deep learning model to screen hypokalemia from electrocardiogram in emergency patients

Background:A deep learning model(DLM)that enables non-invasive hypokalemia screening from an electrocardiogram(ECG)may improve the detection of this life-threatening *** study aimed to develop and evaluate the performance of a DLM for the detection of hypokalemia from the ECGs of emergency ***:We used a total of 9908 ECG data from emergency patients who were admitted at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University,Jiangxi,China,from September 2017 to October *** DLM was trained using 12 ECG leads(lead Ⅰ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,aVR,aVL,aVF,and V1–6)to detect patients with serum potassium concentrationsyielded a sensitivity of 71.4%and a specificity of 77.1%.Using the same 12 ECG leads,the external validation data set resulted in an AUC for the DLM of 0.77(95%CI:0.75–0.79).Using an optimal operating point yielded a sensitivity of 70.0%and a specificity of 69.1%.Conclusions:In this study,using 12 ECG leads,a DLM detected hypokalemia in emergency patients with an AUC of 0.77 to *** intelligence could be used to analyze an ECG to quickly screen for hypokalemia.

Treadmill exercise in combination with acousto-optic and olfactory stimulation improves cognitive function in APP/PS1 mice through the brain-derived neurotrophic factor-and Cygb-associated signaling pathways

A reduction in adult neurogenesis is associated with behavioral abnormalities in patients with Alzheimer's ***,enhancing adult neurogenesis represents a promising therapeutic approach for mitigating disease symptoms and ***,nonpharmacological interventions aimed at inducing adult neurogenesis are currently *** individual non-pharmacological interventions,such as aerobic exercise,acousto-optic stimulation,and olfactory stimulation,have shown limited capacity to improve neurogenesis and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer's disease,the therapeutic effect of a strategy that combines these interventions has not been fully *** this study,we observed an age-dependent decrease in adult neurogenesis and a concurrent increase in amyloid-beta accumulation in the hippocampus of amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 mice aged 2-8 *** deposition became evident at 4 months,while neurogenesis declined by 6 months,further deteriorating as the disease ***,following a 4-week multifactor stimulation protocol,which encompassed treadmill running(46 min/d,10 m/min,6 days per week),40 Hz acousto-optic stimulation(1 hour/day,6 days/week),and olfactory stimulation(1 hour/day,6 days/week),we found a significant increase in the number of newborn cells(5'-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine-positive cells),immature neurons(doublecortin-positive cells),newborn immature neurons(5'-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine-positive/doublecortin-positive cells),and newborn astrocytes(5'-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine-positive/glial fibrillary acidic protein-positive cells).Additionally,the amyloid-beta load in the hippocampus *** findings suggest that multifactor stimulation can enhance adult hippocampal neurogenesis and mitigate amyloid-beta neuropathology in amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 ***,cognitive abilities were improved,and depressive symptoms were alleviated in amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 mice

Lipid levels and insulin resistance markers in patients with colorectal cancer:Propensity score matching analysis

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer(CRC)is a prevalent malignant neoplasm characterized by subtle early *** To investigate the correlation among serum lipid profiles,the triglyceride-glucose(TyG)index,and the atherosclerotic index(AI)in patients with ***,it explored the clinical diagnostic utility of combining serum lipids with cancer antigens in the context of *** A retrospective analysis encompassed 277 patients with CRC and 1034 healthy *** Following propensity score matching,patients with CRC exhibited significantly reduced levels of serum triglyceride(TG),total cholesterol(TC),high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),as well as a diminished TyG ***,they displayed elevated AI levels compared to their healthy *** in advanced stages exhibited lower serum levels of TG,TC,and LDL-C compared to those in early *** with positive lymph node metastasis demonstrated reduced levels of TG,LDL-C,and the TyG *** operating characteristic analysis revealed that the combination of the TyG index,carcinoembryonic antigen,and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 yielded the highest positive prediction rate for CRC at 75.3%.CONCLUSION Preoperative serum lipid profiles exhibit a robust association with patients with *** concurrent assessment of multiple serum lipids and cancer antigens effectively enhances the diagnostic accuracy for CRC.

Magneto‑Dielectric Synergy and Multiscale Hierarchical Structure Design Enable Flexible Multipurpose Microwave Absorption and Infrared Stealth Compatibility

Developing advanced stealth devices to cope with radar-infrared(IR)fusion detection and diverse application scenarios is increasingly demanded,which faces significant challenges due to conflicting microwave and IR cloaking mechanisms and functional integration ***,we propose a multiscale hierarchical structure design,integrating wrinkled MXene IR shielding layer and flexible Fe_(3)O_(4)@C/PDMS microwave absorption *** top wrinkled MXene layer induces the intensive diffuse reflection effect,shielding IR radiation signals while allowing microwave to pass ***,the permeable microwaves are assimilated into the bottom Fe_(3)O_(4)@C/PDMS layer via strong magneto-electric *** theoretical and experimental optimization,the assembled stealth devices realize a near-perfect stealth capability in both X-band(8–12 GHz)and long-wave infrared(8–14μm)wavelength ***,it delivers a radar cross-section reduction of−20 dB m^(2),a large apparent temperature modulation range(ΔT=70℃),and a low average IR emissivity of ***,the optimal device demonstrates exceptional curved surface conformability,self-cleaning capability(contact angle≈129°),and abrasion resistance(recovery time≈5 s).This design strategy promotes the development of multispectral stealth technology and reinforces its applicability and durability in complex and hostile environments.
