3.0 Tesla vs 1.5 Tesla breast magnetic resonance imaging in newly diagnosed breast cancer patients

AIM:To compare 3.0 Tesla(T) vs 1.5T magnetic resonance(MR) imaging systems in newly diagnosed breast cancer ***:Upon Institutional Review Board approval,a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Actcompliant retrospective review of 147 consecutive 3.0T MR examinations and 98 consecutive 1.5T MR examinations in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer between 7/2009 and 5/2010 was *** patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the 3.0T group were *** occult suspicious lesions(BIRADS Code 4 and 5) additional to the index cancer in the ipsilateral and contralateral breast were *** characteristics and pathologic diagnoses were recorded,and results achieved with both systems *** significance was analyzed using Fisher’s exact ***:In the 3.0T group,206 suspicious lesions were identified in 55%(75/136) of patients and 96%(198/206) of these lesions were *** the 1.5T group,98 suspicious lesions were identified in 53%(52/98) of patients and 90%(88/98) of these lesions were *** results yielded additional malignancies in 24% of patients in the 3.0T group vs 14% of patients in the 1.5T group(33/136 vs 14/98,P = 0.07).Average size and histology of the additional cancers was *** patients who had a suspicious MR imaging study,additional cancers were found in 44% of patients in the 3.0T group vs 27% in the 1.5T group(33/75 vs 14/52,P = 0.06),yielding a higher positive predictive value(PPV) for biopsies performed with the 3.0T ***:3.0T MR imaging detected more additional malignancies in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer and yielded a higher PPV for biopsies performed with the 3.0T system.

Rapid,accurate and high-throughput sizing and quantification of particulate matter(PM)in air is crucial for monitoring and improving air *** fact,particles in air with a diameter of≤2.5μm have been classified as carcinogenic by the World Health *** we present a field-portable cost-effective platform for high-throughput quantification of particulate matter using computational lens-free microscopy and *** platform,termed c-Air,is also integrated with a smartphone application for device control and display of *** mobile device rapidly screens 6.5 L of air in 30 s and generates microscopic images of the aerosols in *** provides statistics of the particle size and density distribution with a sizing accuracy of~93%.We tested this mobile platform by measuring the air quality at different indoor and outdoor environments and measurement times,and compared our results to those of an Environmental Protection Agency–approved device based on beta-attenuation monitoring,which showed strong correlation to c-Air ***,we used c-Air to map the air quality around Los Angeles International Airport(LAX)over 24 h to confirm that the impact of LAX on increased PM concentration was present even at 47 km away from the airport,especially along the direction of landing *** its machinelearning-based computational microscopy interface,c-Air can be adaptively tailored to detect specific particles in air,for example,various types of pollen and mold and provide a cost-effective mobile solution for highly accurate and distributed sensing of air quality.

Silvery fullerene in Ag102 nanosaucer

Despite the discovery of a series of fullerenes and a handful of noncarbon clusters with the typical topology of Ih-C60, the smallest fullerene with a large degree of curvature, C20, and its other-element counterparts are difficult to isolate experimentally. In coinage metal nanoclusters（NCs）, the first all-gold fullerene, Au32, was discovered after a long-lasting pursuit, but the isolation of similar silvery fullerene structures is still challenging. Herein, we report a flying saucer-shaped 102-nuclei silver NC（Ag102） with a silvery fullerene kernel of Ag32, which is embraced by a robust cyclic anionic passivation layer of（KPO4）10. This Ag32kernel can be viewed as a non-centered icosahedron Ag12encaged into a dodecahedron Ag20, forming the silvery fullerene of Ag12@Ag20. The anionic layer（KPO4）10is located at the interlayer between the Ag32kernel and Ag70shell, passivating the Ag32silvery fullerene and templating the Ag70shell. The ~tBuPhS-and CF3COO-ligands on the silver shell show a regioselective arrangement with the 60 ~tBuPhS-ligands as expanders covering the upper and lower of the flying saucer and 10 CF3COO-as terminators neatly encircling the edges of the structure. In addition, Ag102 shows excellent photothermal conversion efficiency（η） from the visible to near-infrared region（η = 67.1% ± 0.9% at 450 nm, 60.9% ± 0.9% at 660 nm and 50.2% ± 0.5% at 808 nm）, rendering it a promising material for photothermal converters and potential application in remote laser ignition. This work not only captures silver kernels with the topology of the smallest fullerene C20, but also provides a pathway for incorporating alkali metal（M） into coinage metal NCs via M-oxoanions.

As an interdisciplinary product,water-soluble gold nanoclusters(AuNCs)stabilized by ligands containing carboxyl(-COOH)group have garnered significant attention from synthetic chemists and biologists due to their immense potential for biomedical ***,revealing the crystallographic structures of-COOH-functionalized AuNCs remains a ***,we successfully applied the salting-out method to obtain a series of high-quality single crystals of-COOH-functionalized Au_(25)nanoclusters and revealed their crystallographic ***,K_(3)Au_(25)(2-Hmna)_9(mna)_6]^(-)(Au25a)protected by 2-mercaptonicotinic acid features an unprecedented tetrameric Au_(4)(SR^(S))_(3)(SR^(S,N))_(2)staple motifs surrounding the icosahedral Au_(13)kernel,breaking the traditional perception on the structure of Au_(25)(SR)_(18).Au25a exhibits a distinct near-infrared emission at 970 nm with long lifetime of 8690 ns,which have been studied by transient absorption spectroscopy and time-dependent density functional *** work compensates for the research gap in the experimental structure of-COOHfunctionalized AuNCs and opens up a new avenue to explore their structure-property correlations.

Robust genome editing technologies are becoming part of the crop breeding ***,genome editing is usually conducted either at a single locus,or multiple loci,in a variety at one *** parallel genomics platforms,multifaceted genome editing capabilities,and flexible transformation systems enable targeted variation at nearly any locus,across the spectrum of genotypes within a *** demonstrate here the simultaneous transformation and editing of many genotypes,by targeting mixed seed embryo explants with genome editing machinery,followed by re-identification through genotyping after plant *** and Editing of Mixed Lines(TREDMIL)produced transformed individuals representing 101 of 104(97%)mixed elite genotypes in soybean;and 22 of 40(55%)and 9 of 36(25%)mixed maize female and male elite inbred genotypes,*** of edited genotypes for the regenerated individuals identified over 800 distinct edits at the Determinate1(Dt1)locus in samples from 101 soybean genotypes and 95 distinct Brown midrib3(Bm3)edits in samples from 17 maize *** results illustrate how TREDMIL can help accelerate the development and deployment of customized crop varieties for future precision breeding.

Using Statistical Downscaling to Quantify the GCM-Related Uncertainty in Regional Climate Change Scenarios: A Case Study of Swedish Precipitation

There are a number of sources of uncertainty in regional climate change scenarios. When statistical downscaling is used to obtain regional climate change scenarios, the uncertainty may originate from the uncertainties in the global climate models used, the skill of the statistical model, and the forcing scenarios applied to the global climate model. The uncertainty associated with global climate models can be evaluated by examining the differences in the predictors and in the downscaled climate change scenarios based on a set of different global climate models. When standardized global climate model simulations such as the second phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project （CMIP2） are used, the difference in the downscaled variables mainly reflects differences in the climate models and the natural variability in the simulated climates. It is proposed that the spread of the estimates can be taken as a measure of the uncertainty associated with global climate models. The proposed method is applied to the estimation of global-climate-model-related uncertainty in regional precipitation change scenarios in Sweden. Results from statistical downscaling based on 17 global climate models show that there is an overall increase in annual precipitation all over Sweden although a considerable spread of the changes in the precipitation exists. The general increase can be attributed to the increased large-scale precipitation and the enhanced westerly wind. The estimated uncertainty is nearly independent of region. However, there is a seasonal dependence. The estimates for winter show the highest level of confidence, while the estimates for summer show the least.

Soy-protein isolate(SPI)was used to prepare non-isocyanate polyurethane(NIPU)thermosetting adhesives for wood panels by reacting it with dimethyl carbonate(DMC)and hexamethylene *** linear as well as branched oligomers were obtained and identified,indicating how such oligomer structures could further cross-link to form a hardened *** structures were observed,namely carbamic acid-derived urethane linkages coupled with lactam *** curing of the adhesive was followed by thermomechanical analysis(TMA).It appeared to follow a two stages process:First,at a lower temperature(maximum 130℃),the growth of linear oligomers occurred,finally forming a physically entangled *** appeared to collapse and disentangle,causing a decrease of MOE,as the temperature *** appears to be due to the ever more marked Brownian movements of the linear oligomer chains with the increase of the ***,chemical cross-linking of the chains appeared to ensue,forming a hardened *** was shown by the thermomechanical analysis(TMA)showing two distinct MOE maxima peaks,one around 130℃ and the other around 220℃,with a very marked MOE decrease between the *** panels were prepared and bonded with the SPI-NIPU wood adhesive and the results obtained are *** adhesive appeared to pass comfortably the requirements for dry strength of relevant standards,showing to be suitable for interior grade plywood *** did not pass the requirements for wet ***,addition of 15%of glycerol diglycidyl ether improved the wet tests results but still not enough to satisfy the standards requirements.
