AIM To evaluated vascular dynamic processes in the liver of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia(HHT) patients by ultrasound(US) considering quantitative analytic methods. METHODS The imaging features on US and contrast-enhanced ultrasound(CEUS) in 18 patients diagnosed with HHT were retrospectively analyzed. Regarding CEUS, realtime contrast harmonic imaging and sulfur hexafluoridefilled microbubbles were used. RESULTS HVa Ms were identified in all 18 patients. By US, the two major Caselitz criteria could be detected in 55.6% patients. "Color spots" were detected in 72.2% of the cases. Respecting sonographic grading criteria by Buscarini, grade 3 could be demonstrated most frequent(40%). By CEUS, all the patients showed quick and early hyperenhancement during the arterial phase. Significant lowest time to peak(TTP) and highest area under the curve(AUC) values were identified in the hepatic artery(TTP: 69.8%; AUC: 100%) and highest TTP and lowest AUC in the hepatic parenchyma and the portal vein. CONCLUSION For the first time we analyzed CEUS findings of a group of HHT patients regarding macro- and microcirculation. Our data demonstrate significant differences in TTP and AUC values in the four selected regions: hepatic artery, shunt region, portal vein and hepatic parenchyma.

In aggressive mimicry,a predator accesses prey by mimicking the appearance and/or behavior of a harmless or beneficial model in order to avoid being correctly identified by its *** crab spider genus Phrynarachne is often cited as a textbook example of masquerading as bird droppings(BDs)in order to avoid ***,Phrynarachne spiders may also aggressively mimic BDs in order to deceive potential *** date,there is no experimental evidence to support aggressive mimicry in masquerading crab spiders;therefore,we performed a field survey,a manipulative field experiment,and visual modeling to test this hypothesis using Phrynarachne *** compared prey-attraction rates among BDs,spiders,and control empty leaves in the *** found that although all prey combined and agromyzid dipterans,in particular,were attracted to BDs at a higher rate than to spiders,other dipterans and hymenopterans were attracted to BDs at a similar rate as to *** spiders and BDs attracted insects at a significantly higher rate than did control *** predicted,prey was attracted to experimentally blackened or whitened spiders significantly less frequently than to unmanipulated ***,visual modeling suggested that spiders and BDs can be detected by dipterans and hymenopterans against background leaves,but they are indistinguishable from each *** together,our results suggest that insects lured by spiders may misidentify them as BDs,and bird-dropping masquerading may serve as aggressive mimicry in addition to predator avoidance in ***.

Background:Mass drug administration of praziquantel is the World Health Organization’s endorsed control strategy for schistosomiasis.A decade of annual treatments across sub-Saharan Africa has resulted in significant reductions of infection prevalence and intensity levels,although‘hotspots’*** drug treatments place strong selective pressures on parasites,which may affect life-history traits that impact transmission *** drug treatment responses and the evolution of such traits can help inform on how to minimise the risk of drug resistance developing,maximise sustainable control programme success,and improve diagnostic ***:We performed a four-generation Schistosoma mansoni praziquantel selection experiment in mice and *** used three *** lines:a praziquantel-resistant isolate(R),a praziquantel-susceptible isolate(S),and a coinfected line(RS),under three treatment regimens:untreated,25 mg/kg praziquantel,or 50 mg/kg *** traits,including parasite adult-worm establishment,survival,reproduction(fecundity),and associated morbidity,were recorded in mice across all four *** variables were tested in a series of generalized linear mixed effects models to determine which factors had a significant influence on parasite life-history traits in definitive hosts under different selection ***:Praziquantel pressure significantly reduced adult-worm burdens across all generations and isolates,including within ***,previous drug treatment resulted in an increase in adult-worm establishment with increasing generation from P1 to *** highest worm numbers were in the co-infected RS *** treatment decreased adult-worm burden,but had a larger negative impact on the mean daily number of miracidia,a proxy for fecundity,across all three parasite ***:Our predicted cost of resistance was not supported by the traits we measured within the murine host.

Threshold effects of tourism agglomeration on the green innovation efficiency of China's tourism industry

Industrial agglomeration is an essential and effective way to integrate resources and elements. Its impact on the green innovation efficiency of the tourism industry is a process of continuous development and dynamic change. This paper, based on the provincial panel data from 2006 to 2015, uses super SBM model to measure the green innovation efficiency of China's tourism *** threshold regression model is employed to conduct empirical tests of the nonlinear threshold effect of agglomeration on the green innovation efficiency of tourism industry. The inter-provincial differences of various threshold effects and their possible causes are analyzed. Results indicate that the green innovation efficiency of China's tourism industry is generally growing, while regional disparity is significant with a gradient decrease along the eastern-central-western regions. There is an obvious positive nonlinear relationship between tourism agglomeration and green innovation efficiency. It is also found that with the increase of agglomeration, its influence is at a high level. As the level of agglomeration crosses the first threshold, its impact is at a low level, and when it crosses the second threshold, the impact of tourism agglomeration is at an intermediate level. Finally, this paper proposes the basic path and some policy recommendations to promote the green innovation efficiency of the tourism industry in China.

Browsing by large herbivores might either increase or decrease preference for the plant by other herbivores,depending on the plant *** a cafeteria test,we studied the preference by root voles(Microtus oeconomus[Pallas,1776])for bilberry(Vaccinium myrtillus L.)previously subjected to 4 levels of simulated moose(Alces alces[Linnaeus,1758])*** different levels of moose density were simulated at population densities relevant for Fennoscandian conditions,in exclosures situated along a site productivity *** expected:(i)voles to prefer bilberry from high productivity sites over low productivity sites;(ii)voles to prefer browsed bilberry,if plants allocate resources to compensatory growth or to avoid browsed bilberry if plants allocate resources to defense;(iii)these effects to increase with increasing simulated moose density;and(iv)the concentration of plant chemicals and the plant morphology to explain vole ***,we predicted that voles would prefer:(i)plants with high nitrogen content;(ii)plants with low content of defensive substances;and(iii)tall plants with long *** preferred bilberry from the high productivity sites compared to the low productivity *** also found an interaction between site productivity and simulated moose density,where voles preferred unbrowsed plants at low productivity sites and intermediate levels of browsing at high productivity *** was no effect of plant chemistry or morphology on vole *** conclude that moose browsing impacts the food preference of *** the current high densities of moose in Fennoscandia,this could potentially influence vole food selection and population dynamics over large geographical areas.

A rare case is presented where a dysgenetic testis with microinvasive carcinoma in situ （CIS, also known as intratubular germ cell neoplasm of unclassified type [IGCNU] and testicular intraepithelial neoplasia [TIN]） with microinvasion to rete testis and the interstitial tissue was found in a 32-year-old man presenting with mild scrotal pain and ultrasonic testicular microlithiasis. Knowledge of the association of ultrasound and CIS is important to diagnose patients at the stage prior to development of an overt germ cell tumor. The patient had three of four disorders considered symptoms of the testicular dysgenesis syndrome （TDS）： a dysgenetic left testicle with CIS, a mild left-sided cryptorchidism （high positioned scrotal hypotrophic testis） and a slightly reduced semen quality. Therefore, it should be kept in mind that a patient with one TDS symptom may harbour the other, even CIS or testicular cancer. Accordingly, patients with one TDS symptom ought to be examined for the presence of the others, and if more that one is present, extra concern is warranted.

Comparing outcomes for endoscopic submucosal dissection between Eastern and Western countries:A systematic review and meta-analysis

AIM To compare endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) outcomes between Eastern and Western *** A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed using Pub Med,MEDLINE,Web of Science,CINAHL and EBM reviews to identify studies published between 1990 and February 2016. The primary outcome was the efficacy of ESD based on information about either curative resection,en bloc or R0 resection rates. Secondary outcomes were complication rates,local recurrence rates and procedure times. RESULTS Overall,238 publications including 84318 patients and 89512 gastrointestinal lesions resected using ESD were identified. 90% of the identified studies reporting ESDon 87296 lesions were conducted in Eastern countries and 10% of the identified studies reporting ESD outcomes in 2216 lesions were from Western countries. Meta-analyses showed higher pooled percentage of curative,en bloc,and R0 resection in the Eastern studies; 82%(CI: 81%-84%),95%(CI: 94%-96%) and 89%(CI: 88%-91%) compared to Western studies; 71%(CI: 61%-81%),85%(CI: 81%-89%) and 74%(CI: 67%-81%) respectively. The percentage of perforation requiring surgery was significantly greater in the Western countries(0.53%; CI: 0.10-1.16) compared to Eastern countries(0.01%; CI: 0%-0.05%). ESD procedure times were longer in Western countries(110 min vs 77 min).CONCLUSION Eastern countries show better ESD outcomes compared to Western countries. Availability of local ESD expertise and regional outcomes should be considered for decision making to treat gastrointestinal lesions with ESD.
