As threats of landslide hazards have become gradually more severe in recent decades,studies on landslide prevention and mitigation have attracted widespread attention in relevant domains.A hot research topic has been the ability to predict landslide susceptibility,which can be used to design schemes of land exploitation and urban development in mountainous *** this study,the teaching-learning-based optimization(TLBO)and satin bowerbird optimizer(SBO)algorithms were applied to optimize the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)model for landslide susceptibility *** the study area,152 landslides were identified and randomly divided into two groups as training(70%)and validation(30%)***,a total of fifteen landslide influencing factors were *** relative importance and weights of various influencing factors were determined using the step-wise weight assessment ratio analysis(SWARA)***,the comprehensive performance of the two models was validated and compared using various indexes,such as the root mean square error(RMSE),processing time,convergence,and area under receiver operating characteristic curves(AUROC).The results demonstrated that the AUROC values of the ANFIS,ANFIS-TLBO and ANFIS-SBO models with the training data were 0.808,0.785 and 0.755,*** terms of the validation dataset,the ANFISSBO model exhibited a higher AUROC value of 0.781,while the AUROC value of the ANFIS-TLBO and ANFIS models were 0.749 and 0.681,***,the ANFIS-SBO model showed lower RMSE values for the validation dataset,indicating that the SBO algorithm had a better optimization ***,the processing time and convergence of the ANFIS-SBO model were far superior to those of the ANFIS-TLBO ***,both the ensemble models proposed in this paper can generate adequate results,and the ANFIS-SBO model is recommended as the more suitable model for landslide susceptibility assessment in the study area

Biotechnology policies and regulations must be revised and updated to reflect the most recent advances in plantbreeding technology. New Plant Breeding Techniques(NPBT) such as gene editing have been applied to address the myriad of challenges in plant breeding, while the use of NPBT as emerging biotechnological tools raises legal and ethical concerns. This study aims to highlight how gene editing is operationalized in the existing literature and examine the critical issues of ethical and legal issues of gene editing for plant breeding. We carried out a systematic literature review(SLR) to provide the current states of ethical and legal discourses surrounding this topic. We also identified critical research priority areas and policy gaps that must be addressed when designing the future governance of gene editing in plant breeding.

Virtual Power Plants for Grid Resilience: A Concise Overview of Research and Applications

The power grid is undergoing a transformation from synchronous generators(SGs) toward inverter-based resources(IBRs). The stochasticity, asynchronicity, and limited-inertia characteristics of IBRs bring about challenges to grid resilience. Virtual power plants(VPPs) are emerging technologies to improve the grid resilience and advance the transformation. By judiciously aggregating geographically distributed energy resources(DERs) as individual electrical entities, VPPs can provide capacity and ancillary services to grid operations and participate in electricity wholesale markets. This paper aims to provide a concise overview of the concept and development of VPPs and the latest progresses in VPP operation, with the focus on VPP scheduling and control. Based on this overview, we identify a few potential challenges in VPP operation and discuss the opportunities of integrating the multi-agent system(MAS)-based strategy into the VPP operation to enhance its scalability, performance and resilience.

In the face of the pressing environmental issues,the past decade witnessed the booming development of the distributed energy systems(DESs).A notable problem of DESs is the inevitable uncertainty that may make DESs deviate significantly from the deterministically obtained expectations,in both aspects of optimal design and economic *** thus necessitates the sensitivity analysis to quantify the impacts of the massive parametric *** paper aims to give a comprehensive quantification,and carries out a multi-stage sensitivity analysis on DESs from the perspectives of evaluation criteria,optimal design and economic ***,a mathematical model of a DES is developed to present the solutions to the three stages of the ***,the Monte-Carlo simulation is carried out subject to the probabilistic distributions of the energy,technical and economic *** on the simulation results,the variance-based Sobol method is applied to calculate the individual importance,interactional importance and total importance of various *** comparison of the multi-stage results shows that only a few parameters play critical roles while the uncertainty of most of the massive parameters has little impact on the system *** addition,the influence of parameter interactions in the optimal design stage are much stronger than that in the evaluation criteria and operation strategy stages.

T-tym phocyte migration under flow is critical for immune responses, but the mechanisms by which flow modulates the migratory beha- viors of T-lymphocytes remain unclear. Human peripheral blood T-lymphocytes （PBTLs）, when stimulated with phorboL 12-myristate 13-acetate （PMA）, stretched their ceU bodies dramatically and moved alongthe flow direction. In contrast, stromal ceil-derived factor- lα-stimulated PBTI.s deformed and migrated in a random manner. Here we elucidated the molecular mechanisms underlying flow- induced directionality and deformation of PMA-stimulated PBTLs. PMA primed PBTLs for polarization under flow, with protein kinase C （PKC）-δ enriched in the leading edge, PKC-β1 in the microtubuie organizing center, and PKC-1311 in the uropod and peripheral region. PKC-δ regulated cell protrusions in the leading edge through Tiaml/Racl/caLmoduUn, whereas PKC-β regulated RhoA/Rho- associated kinase activity and microtubule stability to modulate uropod contractility and detachment. Our findings indicate that PKC-δ and -β coordinate in the cell Leading edge and uropod, respectively, to modu｜ate the directionality and deformability of migratory T-Lymphocytes under flow.

This report presents the case of a 59-year-old man with severe COVID-19 that gradually progressed to cytokine release syndrome and then acute respiratory distress syndrome;he was successfully treated via integration of therapeutic plasma exchange and traditional Chinese *** patient initially presented with a sore throat,severe muscle aches,productive cough and *** the worsening of symptoms,remdesivir was ***,as the symptoms continued to worsen and a cytokine release syndrome was suspected,oxygen was provided through a high-flow nasal cannula(50 L/min)and therapeutic plasma exchange was performed to prevent worsening of the acute respiratory distress *** the same day,a course of traditional Chinese medicine was introduced in consultation with the infectious house *** patient’s symptoms gradually improved;the levels of C-reactive protein and D-dimers reduced,and the patient was weaned to a simple oxygen mask and eventually to room *** is the first reported case of the integration of these ***,they prevented the patient from requiring intubation,played a role in cytokine management,and also improved the clinical symptoms,including productive purulent sputum,cough,frequent stool passage and intermittent fever,with no adverse *** a result,the patient was discharged within two weeks of the integration of these ***,the integration of therapeutic plasma exchange and traditional Chinese medicine is an effective therapy for patients with severe COVID-19.

AIM: To investigate how the saturated and unsaturated fatty acid composition influences the susceptibility of developing acute pancreatitis. METHODS: Primary pancreatic acinar cells were treated with low and high concentrations of different saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, and changes in the cytosolic Ca2+ signal and the expression of protein kinase C(PKC) were measured after treatment. RESULTS: Unsaturated fatty acids at high concentrations, including oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitoleic acid, docosahexaenoic acid, and arachidonic acid, induced a persistent rise in cytosolic Ca2+ concentrations in acinar cells. Unsaturated fatty acids at low concentrations and saturated fatty acids, including palmitic acid, stearic acid, and triglycerides, at low and high concentrations were unable to induce a rise in Ca2+ concentrations in acinar cells. Unsaturated fatty acids at high concentrations but not saturated fatty acids induced intra-acinar cell trypsin activation and cell damage and increased PKC ***: At sufficiently high concentrations, unsaturated fatty acids were able to induce acinar cells injury and promote the development of pancreatitis. Unsaturated fatty acids may play a distinctive role in the pathogenesis of pancreatitis through the activation of PKC family members.

Medical therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus is ineffective in the long term due to the progressive nature of the disease, which requires increasing medication doses and polypharmacy. Conversely, bariatric surgery has emerged as a cost-effective strategy for obese diabetic individuals; it has low complication rates and results in durable weight loss, glycemic control and improvements in the quality of life, obesity-related co-morbidity and overall survival. The finding that glucose homeostasis can be achieved with a weight loss-independent mechanism immediately after bariatric surgery, especially gastric bypass, has led to the paradigm of metabolic surgery. However, the primary focus of metabolic surgery is the alteration of the physio-anatomy of the gastrointestinal tract to achieve glycemic control, metabolic control and cardio-metabolic risk reduction. To date, metabolic surgery is still not well defined, as it is used most frequently for less obese patients with poorly controlled diabetes. The mechanism of glycemic control is still incompletely understood. Published research findings on metabolic surgery are promising, but many aspects still need to be defined. This paper examines the proposed mechanism of diabetes remission, the efficacy of different types of metabolic procedures, the durability of glucose control, and the risks and complications associated with this procedure. We propose a tailored approach for the selection of the ideal metabolic procedure for different groups of patients, considering the indications and prognostic factors for diabetes remission.

This research explored the effects of the coronavirus disease(COVID-19)outbreak on stock price movements of China’s tourism industry by using an event study *** results showed that the crisis negatively impacted tourism sector *** quantile regression analyses supported the non-linear relationship between the government’s responses and stock *** results present that the resurgence of the virus in Beijing did bring about a short-term negative impact on the tourism *** empirical results can be used for future researchers to conduct a comparative study of cultural differences concerning government responses to the COVID-19.
