Background:Hepatectomy is the preferred treatment for solitary hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)without macrovascular invasion and distant metastasis,but long-term survival remains unsatisfactory in certain *** sought to identify whether the grading severity of microscopic vascular invasion(MVI)was associated with recurrence and survival among patients with solitary ***:Consecutive patients who underwent hepatectomy for solitary HCC were identified from a multicenter prospectively-collected *** were categorized into three groups according to the MVI grading system proposed by the Liver Cancer Pathology Group of China:M0(no MVI),M1(1-5 sites of MVI occurring≤1.0 cm away from the tumor),and M2(>5 sites occurring≤1.0 cm or any site occurring>1 cm away from the tumor).Recurrence-free survival(RFS)and overall survival(OS)were compared among the ***:Among 227 patients,97(42.7%),83(36.6%),and 47(20.7%)patients had M0,M1,and M2,*** RFS rates among patients with M0,M1,and M2 were 38.3,35.1,11.6 months,respectively,while OS rates were 66.8,62.3,30.6 months,respectively(both P<0.001).Multivariate Cox-regression analyses demonstrated that both M1 and M2 were independent risk factors for RFS(hazard ratio 1.20,95%CI:1.03-1.89,P=0.040;and hazard ratio 1.67,95%CI:1.06-2.64,P=0.027)and OS(hazard ratio 1.28,95%CI:1.05-2.07,P=0.035;and hazard ratio 1.97,95%CI:1.15-3.38,P=0.013).Conclusions:Grading severity of MVI was independently associated with RFS and OS after hepatectomy for solitary *** surveillance for recurrence and potentially adjuvant therapy may be considered for patients with MVI,especially individuals with more severe MVI grading(M2).

Hydrogen generation from polyvinyl alcohol-contaminated wastewater by a process of supercritical water gasification

Gasification of polyvinyl alcohol （PVA）-contaminated wastewater in supercritical water （SCW） was investigated in a continuous flow reactor at 723-873 K, 20-36 MPa and residence time of 20-450 s. The gas and liquid products were analyzed by GC/TCD, and TOC analyzer. The main gas products were H2, CH4, CO and CO2. Pressure change had no significant influence on gasification efficiency. Higher temperature and longer residence time enhanced gasification efficiency, and lower temperature favored the production of H2. The effects of KOH catalyst on gas product composition were studied, and gasification efficiency were analyzed. The TOC removal efficiency （RTOC）, carbon gasification ratio （RCG） and hydrogen gasification ratio （RHG） were up to 96.00%, 95.92% and 126.40% at 873 K and 60 s, respectively, which suggests PVA can be completely gasified in SCW. The results indicate supercritical water gasification for hydrogen generation is a promising process for the treatment ofPVA wastewater.

BACKGROUND：Splenectomy and pericardial devascularization（SPD）is an effective treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding and hypersplenism in cirrhotic patients with portal *** green retention at 15 minutes（ICGR15）was reported to offer better sensitivity and specificity than the Child-Pugh classification in hepatectomy,but few reports describe ICGR15 in *** present study was to evaluate the prognostic value of ICGR15 for cirrhotic patients with portal hypertension who underwent ***：From January 2012 to January 2015,43 patients with portal hypertension and hypersplenism caused by liver cirrhosis were admitted in our center and received *** ICGR15,Child-Pugh classification,model for end-stage liver disease（MELD）score,and perioperative characteristics were analyzed ***：Preoperative liver function assessment revealed that 34 patients were Child-Pugh class A with ICGR15 of13.6%-43.0%and MELD score of 7-20;8 patients were class B with ICGR15 of 22.8%-40.7%and MELD score of 7-17;1patient was class C with ICGR15 of 39.7%and MELD score of *** optimal ICGR15 threshold for liver function compensation was 31.2%,which offered a sensitivity of 68.4%and a specificity of 70.8%.Univariate analysis showed preoperative ICGR15,MELD score,surgical procedure,intraoperative blood loss,and autologous blood transfusion were significantly different between postoperative liver function compensated and decompensated *** regression analysis revealed that ICGR15 was an independent risk factor of postoperative liver function recovery（P=0.020）.CONCLUSIONS：ICGR15 has outperformed the Child-Pugh classification for assessing liver function in cirrhotic patients with portal ***15 may be a suitable prognostic indicator for cirrhotic patients after SPD.

Pancreatic cancer: open or minimally invasive surgery?

Pancreatic duct adenocarcinoma is one of the most fatal malignancies, with R0 resection remaining the most important part of treatment of this malignancy. However, pancreatectomy is believed to be one of the most challenging procedures and R0 resection remains the only chance for patients with pancreatic cancer to have a good prognosis. Some surgeons have tried minimally invasive pancreatic surgery, but the shortand long-term outcomes of pancreatic malignancy remain controversial between open and minimally invasive procedures. We collected comparative data about minimally invasive and open pancreatic surgery. The available evidence suggests that minimally invasive pancreaticoduodenectomy(MIPD) is as safe and feasible as open PD(OPD), and shows some benefit, such as less intraoperative blood loss and shorter postoperative hospital stay. Despite the limited evidence for MIPD in pancreatic cancer, most of the available data show that the short-term oncological adequacy is similar between MIPD and OPD. Some surgical techniques, including superior mesenteric artery-first approach and laparoscopic pancreatoduodenectomy with major vein resection, are believed to improve the rate of R0 resection. Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy is less technically demanding and is accepted in more pancreatic centers. It is technically safe and feasible and has similar short-term oncological prognosis compared with open distal pancreatectomy.

Field testing of geosynthetic-reinforced and column-supported earth platforms constructed on soft soil

This paper is focused on the behavior of geosynthetic-reinforced and column-supported （GRCS） earth platforms in soft soil. By analyzing the data of a 15-month long field monitoring project, the bearing behavior and effectiveness of GRCS earth platforms are discussed in detail. It can be found that the soil arching is generated when the filling reaches a certain height. The measured pressure acting on the soil in the center of four piles was smaller than that acting on the soil between two piles. The elongation and the tension of the geogrid located in the soil between piles are both larger than the corresponding values on the pile top. The skin friction of piles is relatively small in the soil layer with low strength and the load transfer of the axial force in those layers is significant; meanwhile, the opposite situation occurs in the soil layer with high strength. The pore water pressure at shallow locations increases slightly with the filling height and is greatly affected by the increasing filling load. The layered settlement is directly proportional to the filling height, and the corresponding amount is relevant to the locations and the properties of specific soil layers. Additionally, the lateral displacement of the embankment increases with greater loading and decreases with increased depth. These suggest that the use of GRCS system can reduce lateral displacements and enhance the stability of an embankment significantly.

The permeability and stability of Sm_（0.7）Sr_（0.3）CoO_（3-δ）（SSCO） regarding the special requirements for carbon capture and storage（CCS） application were *** CO_ was used as the sweep gas at 900 °C,leading to that the oxygen permeation flux decreases by about 34 %.Several cycles of changing the sweep gas between helium and CO_2 indicate the good reversibility of this *** carbonate formation and adsorption of CO_2 on the membrane surface are responsible for the degradation of the membrane *** better CO_2 resistance results from the substitution of Sm for Sr due to the higher acidity of Sm_2O_3（1.278） than that of Sr O（0.978） and a discontinuous layer of carbonate.

c-Jun N-terminal kinase 3 deficiency protects axotomized retinal ganglion cells via affecting mitochondria involved apoptosis pathway

AIM: To illustrate the isoform-specific role and mechanism of c-Jun N-terminal kinases(JNKs) in mouse optic nerve axotomy induced neurotrauma. METHODS: We firstly investigated the expression of JNK1, JNK2, and JNK3 in the retinal ganglion cells(RGCs) by double-immunofluorescent staining. Then we created optic nerve axotomy model in wild type as well as JNK1, JNK2, JNK3, isoform specific gene deficiency mice. With that, we checked the protein expression profile of JNKs and its active form, and quantified the survival RGCs number by immunofluorescence staining. We further explored the molecules underlying isoform specific protective effect by real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and Western blotting assay. RESULTS: We found that all the three isoforms of JNKs were expressed in the RGCs. Deficiency of JNK3, but not JNK1 or JNK2, significantly alleviated optic nerve axotomyinduced RGCs apoptosis. We further established that expression of Noxa, a pro-apoptotic member of BH3 family, was significantly suppressed only in JNK3 gene deficiency mice. But tumor necrosis factor receptor 1(TNFR1) and Fas, two key modulators of death receptor mediated apoptosis pathway, did not display obvious change in the expression. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that mitochondria mediated apoptosis, but not death receptor mediated apoptosis got involved in the JNK3 gene deficiency induced RGCs protection. Our study provides a novel insight into the isoform-specific role of JNKs in neurotrauma and indicates some cues for its therapeutics.

Inactivated cell catalysis is one of several central techniques in green biomanufacturing ***,the instability and leakage of enzymes in inactivated cell severely restrict the practical applications of inactivated cell *** armor on the surface of inactivated cells affords a feasible and effective strategy to enhance the stability of cells while commonly lowering the ***,polymer-silica hybrid armor(PSHA)is directly generated on the surface of enzyme-containing *** branched structure of PEI enables higher porosity of cell@PSHA,exhibiting 1.52-fold enhancement in substrate permeability by contrast with cell@silica armor(SA).The electrostatic interactions(NH_(3)^(+)with O^(−))and hydrogen bonding(N⋯H or O⋯H)interactions between structural units enables higher stability of cell@PSHA,showing 3.13-fold elevation in Young's modulus compared with cell@*** a result,the cell@PSHA can catalyze continuous conversion of starch to tagatose for 15 batches over 969 h,with an average yield of 77.76 g L^(−1).
