Raman imaging yields high specificity and sensitivity when compared to other imaging modalities, mainly due to its fingerprint signature. However, intrinsic Raman signals are weak, thus limiting medical applications of Raman imaging. By adsorbing Raman molecules onto specific nanostructures such as noble metals, Raman signals can be significantly enhanced, termed surfaceenhanced Raman scattering(SERS). Recent years have witnessed great interest in the development of SERS nanoprobes for Raman imaging. Rationally designed SERS nanoprobes have greatly enhanced Raman signals by several orders of magnitude, thus showing great potential for biomedical applications.In this review we elaborate on recent progress in design strategies with emphasis on material properties,modifying factors, and structural parameters.

The clinical presentations of gestational choriocarcinoma vary markedly, and a misdiagnosis could be made in atypical patients if simply relying on clinical features. Laparoscopic resection of uterine mass lesion is rarely used in gestational choriocarcinoma diagnosis because of the fear of heavy blood loss and distant metastasis. Five patients who were preoperatively diagnosed as having cornual pregnancy underwent laparoscopic resection of mass lesion and then proved to have gestational choriocarcinoma based on pathological examinations. Chemotherapy was started within two days after surgery, and the rate of complete remission was 100%. The mean follow-up time was 29.8±19.1 months, and no patient showed signs of relapse. Laparoscopic resection of uterine mass followed by timely postoperative chemotherapy may be an effective and safe way to obtain pathologic results in patients with suspected gestational choriocarcinoma.

Oral diseases, such as periodontitis, salivary gland diseases, and oral cancers, significantly challenge health conditions due to their detrimental effects on patient's digestive functions, pronunciation, and esthetic demands. Delayed diagnosis and non-targeted treatment profoundly influence patients' prognosis and quality of life. The exploration of innovative approaches for early detection and precise treatment represents a promising frontier in oral medicine.

Tooth root development involves intricate spatiotemporal cellular dynamics and molecular regulation.The initiation of Hertwig’s epithelial root sheath(HERS)induces odontoblast differentiation and the subsequent radicular dentin deposition.Precisely controlled signaling pathways modulate the behaviors of HERS and the fates of dental mesenchymal stem cells(DMSCs).Disruptions in these pathways lead to defects in root development,such as shortened roots and furcation abnormalities.Advances in dental stem cells,biomaterials,and bioprinting show immense promise for bioengineered tooth root regeneration.However,replicating the developmental intricacies of odontogenesis has not been resolved in clinical treatment and remains a major challenge in this field.Ongoing research focusing on the mechanisms of root development,advanced biomaterials,and manufacturing techniques will enable next-generation biological root regeneration that restores the physiological structure and function of the tooth root.This review summarizes recent discoveries in the underlying mechanisms governing root ontogeny and discusses some recent key findings in developing of new biologically based dental therapies.

Prussian blue and its analogs are extensively investigated as a cathode for ammonium-ion batteries.However,they often suffer from poor electronic conductivity.Here,we report a Ni_(2)Fe(CN)_(6)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite electrode material,which is prepared using a simple coprecipitation approach.The obtained material consists of nanoparticles with sizes 30-50 nm and the multiwalled carbon nanotube embedded in it.The existence of multiwalled carbon nanotube ensures that the Ni_(2)Fe(CN)_(6)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite shows excellent electrochemical performance,achieving a discharge capacity of 55.1 mAh·g^(-1)at 1 C and 43.2 mAh·g^(-1)even at 15 C.An increase in the ammoniumion diffusion coefficient and ionic/electron conductivity based on kinetic investigations accounts for their high performance.Furthermore,detailed ex situ characterizations demonstrate that Ni_(2)Fe(CN)_(6)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite offers three advantages:negligible lattice expansion during cycling,stable structure,and the reversible redox couple.Therefore,the Ni_(2)Fe(CN)_(6)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite presents a long cycling life and high rate capacity.Finally,our study reports a desirable material for ammonium-ion batteries and provides a practical approach for improving the electrochemical performance of Prussian blue and its analogs.

To correctly assess and properly manage the public health risks associated with exposure to contaminated water,it is necessary to identify the source of fecal pollution in a watershed.In this study,we evaluated the efficacy of our two previously developed real time-quantitative PCR(qPCR)assays for the detection of swine-associated Bacteroidales genetic markers(gene 1-38,gene 3-53)in the Yangtze Delta watershed of southeastern China.The results indicated that the gene 1-38 and 3-53 markers exhibited high accuracy(92.5%,91.7%conditional probability,respectively)in detecting Bacteroidales spp.in water samples.According to binary logistic regression(BLR),these two swine-associated markers were well correlated(P<0.05)with fecal indicators(Escherichia coli and Enterococci spp.)and zoonotic pathogens(E.coli O157:H7,Salmonella spp.and Campylobacter spp.)in water samples.In contrast,concentrations of conventional fecal indicator bacteria(FIB)were not correlated with zoonotic pathogens,suggesting that they are noneffective at detecting fecal pollution events.Collectively,the results obtained in this study demonstrated that a swinetargeted qPCR assay based on two Bacteroidales genes markers(gene 1-38,gene 3-53)could be a useful tool in determining the swine-associated impacts of fecal contamination in a watershed.

The superfluorescent fiber source(SFS)with tunable optical spectrum has shown great application potential in the sensing,imaging,and spectral combination.Here,we demonstrate for the first time a 2-kW-level wavelength and linewidth tunable SFS.Based on a flexible filtered SFS seed and three stages of fiber amplifiers,the output power can be scaled from the milliwatt level to about 2 kW,with a wavelength tuning range of 1068–1092 nm and a linewidth tuning range of 2.5–9.7 nm.Moreover,a numerical simulation is conducted based on the generalized nonlinear Schr?dinger equation,and the results reveal that the wavelength tuning range is limited by the decrease of seed power and the growth of amplified spontaneous emission,whereas the linewidth tuning range is determined by the gain competition and nonlinear Kerr effects.The developed wavelength and linewidth tunable SFS may be applied to scientific research and industrial processing.

The past decade has seen significant advances in our understanding of Hedgehog(HH)signaling pathway in various biological events.HH signaling pathway exerts its biological effects through a complex signaling cascade involved with primary cilium.HH signaling pathway has important functions in embryonic development and tissue homeostasis.It plays a central role in the regulation of the proliferation and differentiation of adult stem cells.Importantly,it has become increasingly clear that HH signaling pathway is associated with increased cancer prevalence,malignant progression,poor prognosis and even increased mortality.Understanding the integrative nature of HH signaling pathway has opened up the potential for new therapeutic targets for cancer.A variety of drugs have been developed,including small molecule inhibitors,natural compounds,and long non-coding RNA(LncRNA),some of which are approved for clinical use.This review outlines recent discoveries of HH signaling in tissue homeostasis and cancer and discusses how these advances are paving the way for the development of new biologically based therapies for cancer.Furthermore,we address status quo and limitations of targeted therapies of HH signaling pathway.Insights from this review will help readers understand the function of HH signaling in homeostasis and cancer,as well as opportunities and challenges of therapeutic targets for cancer.

Flexible triboelectric nanogenerator toward ultrahigh-frequency vibration sensing

Flexible high-frequency vibration sensors are highly desirable in various real-world applications such as structural health monitoring,environmental monitoring,and the internet of things.However,developing a facile and effective method to fabricate vibration sensors simultaneously featuring high vibration frequency response-ability and flexibility remains a grand challenge.Herein,we report a flexible ultrahigh-frequency triboelectric vibration sensor(UTVS)prepared by a layer-particle-layer structure.Owing to the flexibility of the materials(i.e.,polyethylene terephthalate membrane)and the ultrahigh-frequency vibration response-ability of internal microparticles,the flexible UTVS exhibits an enhanced working frequency range of 3–170 kHz,which is much broader than previously reported triboelectric vibration sensors.Moreover,the UTVS can work not only in a flat state but also in a bent state due to its flexibility and the unique layer-particle-layer structural design.The UTVS shows nanometer-level vibration response-ability,omnidirectional response,stability in the temperature range of 10–70°C,good frequency resolution of 0.01 kHz,and excellent performance in burst vibration detection(e.g.,pencil lead break events and impact events from falling steel balls).With a collection of compelling features,the device is successfully demonstrated in vibration monitoring of curved structures(e.g.,real-time water pipeline leak monitoring).Such a flexible ultrahigh-frequency triboelectric vibration sensor holds great potential in a wide range of practical applications,such as communication,health care,and infrastructure monitoring.
