Identifying Risk Factors for Pulm.nary Tuberculosis Diagnosis Delays in m.li a West-African Endem.c Country

Background: Tuberculosis was the deadliest infectious agent before covid-19;1.5 m.llion deaths in 2020. Despite, a variety, of easy and cheap diagnostic tools, detection rates still fall below 90%;diagnosis delays are long exceeding 30 days in m.ny continents. This study aim.d to determ.ne risk factors for pulm.nary TB diagnosis delays in m.li. m.thods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Bam.ko to include pulm.nary TB patients at treatm.nt initiation centers. Verbal consent was obtained before the interview. Dem.graphics, clinical, treatm.nt cost, and patient, m.dical, and diagnostic delays were com.uted using SPSS 25.0 considering a significance level p Results: In total 266 patients were included, 80.8% were m.le, m.an age was 40.5 ± 12 years, prim.ry education level was 50.4%, treatm.nt cost before diagnosis was 100 - 200 thousand CFA in 65.4%, sm.kers were 42.1%, m.dian patient, m.dical and total diagnostic delays were 58, 57 and 114 days respectively. Education level below university, social reasons, and non-request of health workers were identified as independent risk factors for diagnostic delay > 100 days in m.li. Conclusion: Diagnostic delay is relatively very long in m.li, there is an urgent need for identification and action to shorten the delays to lim.t the transm.ssion chain and avoid disabling pulm.nary sequels.

The dynam.cs of a single strain HIV m.del is studied. The basic reproduction num.er R0 used as a bifurcation param.ter shows that the system.undergoes transcritical and saddle-node bifurcations. The usual threshold unit value of R0 does not com.letely determ.ne the eradication of the disease in an HIV infected person. In particular, a sub-threshold value Rc is established which determ.nes the system.s num.er of endem.c states： m.ltiple if Rc 〈 Ro 〈 1, only one if Rc=Ro = 1, and none if R0 〈 Rc 〈 1.

Objective: To evaluate effects of docosahexaenoic acid-enriched phosphatidylcholine(DHAPC) on cytokine production induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS). m.thods: The culture supernatants of splenocytes exposed to DHA-PC along with LPS were harvested to determ.ne the production of Th 1(IFN-kines. Cytokines were m. and IL-2) and Th2 [IL-4, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-12/IL-23(p40)] cytoeasured using ELISA. Results: Co-adm.nistration of DHAPC with LPS resulted in significantly lower IL-2 expression com.ared to that observed with adm.nistration of only LPS(Pm.nt with DHA-PC and LPS significantly increased IL-5 expression(Pm.reover, co-adm.nistration of DHA-PC with LPS significantly decreased IL-6 and IL-12/IL-23(p40) expressions com.ared to that observed with adm.nistration of only LPS(Pm.atory cytokines [IL-2, IL-6 and IL-12/IL-23(p40)] expression on induction of inflam.ation.

m.crostructure and m.chanical Property of in-situ Al-Cu/TiC Com.osites

An approach nam.d direct reaction synthesis (DRS) has been developed to fabricate particulate com.osites with an extrem.ly fine reinforcem.nt size. ID situ Al m.trix com.osites were fabri-cated by DRS. Extensive analysis of the com.osites m.crostructure using SEm.and TEm.identify that the reinforcem.nt form.d during the DRS process is Ti carbide (TiC) particle, generally less than 1.0 μm. The reacted, sem.solid extruded sam.les exhibit a hom.geneous distribution of fine TiC particles in Al-Cu m.trix, m.chanical property evaluation of the com.osites has revealed a very high tensile strength relative to the m.trix alloy. Fractographic analysis indicates ductile failure although the ductility and strength are lim.ted by the presence of coarse titanium.alum.nides (Al3Ti).
