Hydrogen separation and purification are two important chemical processes in the extensive application of hydrogen energy. Membrane technology has opened up a potential solution to the problems of separation and purification in an energy effective way. Membranes of adequate hydrogen permeability, good thermal and mechanical stability are the key to successful application of membrane technology in hydrogen separation and purification. In this paper, the relative parameters concerning hydrogen permeability, the development of different types of membranes namely: palladium composite membranes; V-based alloy membranes, specific functionality embraced alloy membranes, metal hydride (MH) thin films and fabrications, were reviewed and discussed. Pd-free membranes are found to be the ideal alternatives. Suitable MH thin films with mono- or multi-layer microstructures produced by novel fabrication techniques, is likely to be the promising candidates due to possessing properties distinct from those of bulk materials in membrane form.

AB5-based hydrogen storage thin fdms （LaNi4.25Al0.75）, deposited on Cu substrate by dc magnetron sputtering were investigated in this study. X-ray diffraction （XRD） revealed that the microstructure of the layer was in crystal form. SEM and AFM analyses proved that the film appeared to be rather rough with numerous randomly sized pores of approximately 15-40 in nm diameter. Structural stability of the film was examined by the combined analyses of DSC, XRD, and SEM, which indicated that this film maintained its structural stability below 500 K or so, and a network structure was observed on the film after being heated at 700 K for 30 min. Electrochemical hydrogen-storage properties of the films were investigated by simulated battery tests. It was found that single-layered LaNi4.25A10.75 film exhibited electrochemical hydrogen-storage properties similar to typical AB5 alloys in bulk, and the maximum discharge capacity of the film was about 220 mAh/g. After 20 charge/discharge cycles, small needle-shaped aluminium oxide was formed on some fractions of the film surface.

In this paper, we propose a novel game-theoretical solution to the multi-path routing problem in wireless ad hoc networks comprising selfish nodes with hidden information and actions. By incorporating a suitable traffic allocation policy, the proposed mechanism results in Nash equilibria where each node honestly reveals its true cost, and forwarding subgame perfect equilibrium in which each node does provide forwarding service with its declared service reliability. Based on the generalised second price auction, this mechanism effectively alleviates the over-payment of the well-known VCG mechanism. The effectiveness of this mechanism will be shown through simulations.

Hyperphenylalaninemia is one of the commonest inborn errors of metabolism affecting approximately 1 in 15 000 live births. Among Chinese, BH4 deficiency leading to hyperphenylalaninemia is much commoner than in Caucasians. Exact diagnosis is important for the treatment and genetic counseling. In 2000, newborn screening for phenylketonuria is mandatory by law in China throughout the whole country. However, it is not yet included in the newborn screening program of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China. Published data on hyperphenylalaninemia among Hong Kong Chinese are largely lacking. We report a 1-year-old Hong Kong Chinese girl with severe 6-pyruvoyl-tetrahydropterin synthase （PTPS） deficiency. The patient presented with infantile hypotonia and was misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy. She had very mild hyperphenylalaninemia （95 IJmol/L）, significantly high phenylalnine-to-tyrosine ratio （3.1）, and ele~,ated prolactin of 1109 m lU/L. Genetic analysis confirmed a homozygous known disease-causing mutation PTS NM_000317.1： c.259C〉T; NP_000308.1： p.P87S in the proband. In our local experience, while the estimated prevalence of hyperphenylalaninemia due to PTPS deficiency was reported to be 1 in 29 542 live births, not a single case of phenylalanine hydroxylase deficiency has been reported. Furthermore, there is a general lack of awareness of inherited metabolic diseases in the community as well as among the medical professionals. Very often, a low index of clinical suspicion will lead to delay in diagnosis, multiple unnecessary and costly investigations, prolonged morbidity and anxiety to the family affected. We strongly recommend that expanded newborn screening for hyperphenylalaninemia should be implemented for every baby born in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, China.

Background Data of classical inborn errors of metabolism （IEM） of amino acids, organic acids and fatty acid oxidation are largely lacking in Hong Kong, where mass spectrometry-based expanded newborn screening for IEM has not been initiated. The current study aimed to evaluate the approximate incidence, spectrum and other characteristics of classical IEM in Hong Kong, which would be important in developing an expanded newborn screening program for the local area.

因高性能混凝土的抗火性与高温下硬化水泥浆（HCP）的化学分解有密切关系，为获得对火灾高温所致HCP化学分解特征的定量理解，对HCP试样进行了400～800℃的高温处理，采用XRD测定C-S—H化学分解动力学．结果表明，C—S—H分解始于560℃，但仅在600℃以上其分解才变得显著，且分解速度随温度升高而急剧增大．尽管C—S—H的分解可造成混凝土强度的显著下降，但这种分解主要发生在600℃以上温度范围内，故对更低温度下发生的高温爆裂基本没有影响．分别建立了在600、700和800℃温度下C—S—H分解反应动力学方程．

目的研究严重急性呼吸综合征(SARS)患者的临床和影像学特征并评价世界卫生组织(WHO)关于SARS诊断指南的准确性。试验设计前瞻性观察研究。研究地点香港新界一所教学医院急诊科新建立的SARS鉴别门诊。研究对象有SARS患者接触史的556名医院工作人员、患者及曾访问过该门诊的工作人员和患者的亲属。主要观察指标 SARS患者的确诊人数。结果 556名研究对象中,收入院141人,其中97人被确诊为SARS。97例确诊患者中,发热、寒战、乏力、肌痛、畏寒、纳差、呕吐、腹泻、颈痛等非呼吸道症状的发生率均显著高于其他患者。WHO关于诊断可疑SARS患者指南的准确性为83％,其阴性预计值为86％(95％可信区间为83％～89％),敏感性为26％(17％～36％),特异性为96％(93％～97％)。结论现行WHO关于诊断可疑SARS患者的指南,用于诊断入院前的患者尚不够敏感,而每天随诊、评价非呼吸道和全身的症状以及胸部X线检查可能是更好的鉴别工具。
