Oral cancer (OC) is the most common form of head and neck cancer. Despite the high incidence and unfavourable patient outcomes, currently, there are no biomarkers for the early detection of OC. This study aims to discover, develop, and validate a novel saliva-based microRNA signature for early diagnosis and prediction of OC risk in oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMD).The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) miRNA sequencing data and small RNA sequencing data of saliva samples were used to discover differentially expressed miRNAs. Identified miRNAs were validated in saliva samples of OC (n=50), OPMD (n=52), and controls(n=60) using quantitative real-time PCR. Eight differentially expressed miRNAs (miR-7-5p, miR-10b-5p, miR-182-5p, miR-215-5p,miR-431-5p, miR-486-3p, miR-3614-5p, and miR-4707-3p) were identified in the discovery phase and were validated. The efficiency of our eight-miRNA signature to discriminate OC and controls was:area under curve (AUC):0.954, sensitivity:86%, specificity:90%,positive predictive value (PPV):87.8%and negative predictive value (NPV):88.5%whereas between OC and OPMD was:AUC:0.911,sensitivity:90%, specificity:82.7%, PPV:74.2%and NPV:89.6%. We have developed a risk probability score to predict the presence or risk of OC in OPMD patients. We established a salivary miRNA signature that can aid in diagnosing and predicting OC,revolutionising the management of patients with OPMD. Together, our results shed new light on the management of OC by salivary miRNAs to the clinical utility of using miRNAs derived from saliva samples.

Sociodemographic Background and Psychosocial Behaviors of Perpetrators of Intimate Partner Violence: A Hospital-based Retrospective Study

Background:Intimate partner violence(IPV)is a worldwide issue with a high prevalence rate seen *** and Objectives:To plan and implement preventive measures,it is important to understand the characteristics,background,and medico-legal significance,especially from the perspective of *** and Methods:This study is a questionnaire-based retrospective study conducted among perpetrators of IPV who presented to a tertiary care hospital in Sri ***:Out of 325 subjects,97.2%were males and 64.0%were aged 26–45 ***(80.9%)perpetrators were older than the victimized partner,with a mean age gap of 4.3 *** 2.8%had achieved higher education and 78.5%had been married to the victim for more than5 *** and/or other substances were abused by 75.4%and 11.1%of them were diagnosed with a psychiatric *** have been exposed to child abuse(CA)as minors(50.1%),with physical CA being the most common,whereas 42.5%had witnessed IPV during their ***-treatment by the spouse(odds ratio[OR]=24[95%confidence interval(CI):5.6,99.9])and substance use(OR=22[95%CI:5.1,91.5])were significantly associated with perpetrating emotional violence.A victim having an extramarital affair was 5.1 times more likely to be subjected to sexual IPV,whereas previous IPV,parental deprivation,and affairs of perpetrator were proved to be protective *** had negatively affected the economy of 71.3%of *** procedures were expected by 22.4%,whereas 60%wanted to negotiate with their ***:Families having low income and alcohol/substance abuse should be targeted to plan preventive programs at the community *** counseling and follow-up of victims of CA can be used as a primary preventive measure of IPV.

Stochastic SIS metapopulation models for the spread of disease among species in a fragmented landscape

Two stochastic models are derived for a susceptible-infectious-susceptible epidemic spreading through a metapopulation： a continuous time Markov chain （CTMC） model and an It6 stochastic differential equation （SDE） model. The stochastic models are numerically compared. Close agreement suggests that computationally intense CTMC simulations can be approximated by simpler SDE simulations. Differential equations for the moments of the SDE probability distribution are also derived, the steady states are solved numerically using a moment closure technique, and these results are compared to simulations. The moment closure technique only coarsely approximates simulation results. The effect of model parameters on stability of the disease-free equilibrium is also numerically investigated.

With a high penetration of wind turbines,the proportion of synchronous generation in the power system will be reduced at times,thus creating operating difficulties especially during frequency ***,it is anticipated that many grid operators will demand inertia response from wind *** this article,different ways for emulating inertia response in full-rated power converter-based wind turbines equipped with permanent magnet synchronous generators are *** control signals are added to the controller of the wind turbine to extract stored energy from the rotating mass and DC-link *** in MATLAB/Simulink show that the inertia response is improved by adding a term proportional to the rate of change of frequency and by extracting the stored energy in the DC-link capacitors.

A preventive control strategy for static voltage stability based on an efficient power plant model of electric vehicles

With the increasing integration of wind farms and electric vehicles(EVs)in power systems,voltage stability is becoming more and more *** on vehicle-to-grid(V2G),an efficient power plant model of EVs(E-EPP)was developed to estimate EV charging load with available corresponding response capacity under different charging strategies.A preventive control strategy based on E-EPP was proposed to maintain the static voltage stability margin(VSM)of power system above a predefined security *** control modes were used including the disconnection of EV charging load(‘V1G’mode)and the discharge of stored battery energy back to power grid(‘V2G’mode).A modified IEEE 14-bus system with high penetration of wind power and EVs was used to verify the effectiveness of preventive control *** results showed that the proposed strategy can not only improve the static voltage stability of power system with considerable wind generation,but also guarantee the travelling comfort for EV owners.

Development of a marketable rice based herbal porridge suitable for diabetics from Scoparia dulcis

Consumption of herbal leafy porridges is a reputed dietary remedy among Sri Lankans in treating diabetes. The aim of the study was to develop a rice based herbal porridge [rice: fresh leaves: scraped coconut kernel 13 - 15: 25 - 30: 10 - 13 (w/w/w)] commercially with Scopariadulcis leaves which has proven antidiabetic effects and low GI (fresh porridge) which benefits diabetics. Two porridges with the same ingredient ratio were produced with different particle sizes. Porridge produced with 100% fine particles (extruded rice, leaves and scraped coconut mixed with rice powder) elicited a high GI for normal (92 ± 22) and diabetic (97 ± 20) subjects. The second porridge prepared with the minimum amount of extruded rice with other ingredients mixed with boiled and dried intact rice grains had a medium GI (normal 58 ± 11, diabetics 61 ± 11). A significant reduction (p < 0.05) in the peak blood glucose was observed in diabetic subjects for porridge 2 (12.4%) compared to porridge 1 (0.7%) when compared to glucose. The reason could be the significantly high (p0.5 mm) (63%) and minimum amount of extruded fine particles in porridge 2 compared to porridge 1 (1.3%).

智能零售店已经成为吸引许多科技公司的关注的活跃话题。亚马逊、深兰科技奥兰治和IBM等公司已经开始通过搭建完整的智能零售店或零售柜来提高客户的购物体验。这些公司正在使用较为复杂的集成系统来实现其目标。但是,在考虑具体搭建一个小规模的智能零售店场景或零售柜时,首先需要解决一些关键问题:如何生成和标记属于某个域的所需图像数据集,比如,拟售商品在不同视角下的拍照图像;设计用于所售商品检测识别机器学习轻量化模型,它要同时满足精度、速度和存储容量等多个方面的要求;设计基于客户人脸图像的年龄估计和性别识别的轻量化机器学习模型。本文在较为全面地整理归纳智能零售店和零售柜的基础上,提出了一款智能零售柜总体设计方案,并就其中的三个关键问题,进行较为深入的研究,提出并实现了相应的解决方案。为了生成用于深度学习训练的带标注的图像数据集,本文设计了一条简单高效的人机协同的处理流水线。首先,对于每一类拟出售的商品,通过人工拍照或其它渠道,采集得到包含有该商品的图像,并赋予商品的类标属性,形成初步的图像数据集。随后,从每类商品中随机选择小部分图像,采用预训练的Mask RCNN模型,生成可疑目标的边界外框,经过人工验证,分拣出正确目标,并把硬误检目标和背景目标都归类为背景。据此分拣数据,采用VGG16提取特征,训练出一个目标分类器备用。然后,对于初始图像数据集中的每张图像,再次使用预训练的Mask RCNN提取可疑目标及其边框坐标,采用VGG16提取特征,使用上述中训练过的目标分类器,生成可疑目标的类标。最后,再经过人工审核确认,选出那些边框坐标和类标都正确的目标,组织成标准格式的带标注的图像数据集。该标注流水线可有效降低标注的人工成本和时间成本。使用轻量级深度学习模型对商品图像进行目标检测识别是本文的另一个重点工作。本文在采用基于CNN模型的单阶段目标检测算法处理流程的基础上,引入了一种自定义模块,它有助于减少CNN模型的参数数量,同时保持模型的原始精度。这种方法具有一定的通用性,通过在原始深度学习模型中进行一些小的更改,可以将设计的自定义模块插入到原始模型中。设计自定义模块的主要思想是通过减少模型参数的数量,从而降低保存模型权重的计算成本和存储容量,同时保持原始模型所保持的精度。本文设计的自定义模块在YOLO模型中将参数数量减少了 41.77%。本文设计了一个轻量级模型架构从客户图像中检测出人脸目标并估计出客户的年龄和性别。通过把原来相互独立的年龄估计模块和性别识别模块进行适当的更改,设计出一个能对年龄和性别同时进行估计的轻量级模型,降低了模型的容量和检测时间。年龄和性别的估计结果,将用于实现在未来版本中的产品推荐功能。本文的主要创新点是:（1）一种简单有效的图像数据库构建与边框标注的智能处理流水线及其核心算法;（2）引入自定义模块到目标检测的深度学习模型中,在保持原始模型精度的同时减少模型的参数数量。（3）构造了一个有效的轻量级CNN模型,用于从客户的面部图像中同时估计出客户的年龄和性别。

The mating system of the true fruit fly Bactrocera tryoni and its sister species, Bactrocera neohumeralis

The frugivorous ＂true＂ fruit fly, Bactrocera tryoni （Queensland fruit fly）, is presumed to have a nonresourced-based lek mating system. This is largely untested, and contrary data exists to suggest Bactrocera tryoni may have a resource-based mating system focused on fruiting host plants. We tested the mating system ofBactrocera tryoni, and its close sibling Bactrocera neohumeralis, in large field cages using laboratory reared flies. We used observational experiments that allowed us to determine if：（i） mating pairs were aggregated or nonaggregated; （ii） mating system was resource or nonresource based; （iii） flies utilized possible landmarks （tall trees over short） as mate-rendezvous sites; and （iv） males called females from male-dominated leks. We recorded nearly 250 Bactrocera tryoni mating pairs across all experiments, revealing that：（i） mating pairs were aggregated; （ii） mating nearly always occurred in tall trees over short; （iii） mating was nonresource based; and （iv） that males and females arrived at the mate-rendezvous site together with no evidence that males preceded females. Bactrocera neohumeralis copulations were much more infrequent （only 30 mating pairs in total）, but for those pairs there was a similar preference for tall trees and no evidence of a resource-based mating system. Some aspects of Bactrocera tryoni mating behavior align with theoretical expectations of a lekking system, but others do not. Until evidence for unequivocal female choice can be provided （as predicted under a true lek）, the mating system ofBactrocera tryoni is best described as a nonresource based, aggregation system for which we also have evidence that land-marking may be involved.
