Lakes Enriquillo and Azuei, the two largest lakes in Hispaniola and in the Caribbean, have risen 10 and 5 m respectively within the last 8 years. Higher lake levels have submerged towns, road systems, agricultural lands and utilities, and have threatened to submerge the major overland highway that connects the Dominican Republic and Haiti. In this study, we use CHIRP seismic data, satellite imagery, and regional meteorological data to quantify and assess controls on the recent lake level rises. Although data are limited, the analyses indicate that the lakes’ water level changes may be attributed to a combination of increased rainfall and natural or man-made changes to the hydraulic connectivity of the various water bodies within the drainage basin. We show that a weak correlation exists between changes in Lake Enriquillo’s and Azuei’s water levels and precipitation rates (0.2 and 0.08 respectively, 1984-2012) and that both lakes experience periods of anti-correlation where, for example, water level drops at Lake Azuei (~20 masl) coincide with water level rises at Lake Enriquillo (41 mbsl). From these observations, we propose that the lakes experience intermittent periods of hydraulic connectivity along reactivated or newly developed stratigraphic-controlled sub-surface transport pathways. We also note that moderately small earthquakes along the large active fault system that extends through both lakes may promote or limit hydraulic conductivity on decadal or shorter time scales. The extents to which recent earthquakes have triggered changes in groundwater flow at this site remain unclear but represent an important topic of future research.

AIm:To evaluate if indolent B cell-non Hodgkin's lymphoma(B-NHL) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL) in hepatitis C virus(HCV) positive patients could have different biological and clinical characteristics requiring different management ***:A group of 24 HCV related B-NHL patients(11 indolent,13 DLBCL) in whom the biological and clinical characteristics were described and *** with DLBCL were managed with the standard of care of *** with indolent HCV-related B-NHL were managed with antiviral treatment pegylated interferon plus ribavirin and their course *** outcomes of the different approaches were ***:Patients with DLBCL had a shorter duration of HCV infection and a higher prevalence of HCV genotype 1 compared to patients with indolent B-NHL in which HCV genotype 2 was the more frequent *** of the 9 patients with indolent HCV-relatedB-NHL treated with only antiviral therapy,achieved a complete response of their onco-haematological disease(55%).Seven of the 13 DLBCL patients treated with immunochemotheraphy obtained a complete response(54%).CONCLUSION:HCV genotypes and duration of HCV infection differed between B-NHL *** lymphomas can be managed with antiviral treatment,while DLBCL is not affected by the HCV infection.

本文分析了瑞典地区1961～2000年极端日降水量的空间尺度、区域变化和与之相关的天气类型。根据30km滞后距离计算的统计相关图估计年平均降水量、日降水量的99%分位值和平均年最大日雨量变化的空间尺度分别为100km、60～100km和40～70km。采用最大相似因子分析方法确定了82个站点极端降水量的区域相关。并发现有11个因子可以提供给最佳因子解决方案。极端事件发生时的天气类型是根据以逐日海平面气压为基础的客观系统划分的,并经过主观(包括锋面)修正。总体来看,极端降水事件的发生,63%在气旋类天气,32%在锋面类天气,3%在定向类天气,2%在反气旋类天气。然而,极端事件各种天气类型的发生频次不同地区之间有所不同。

Central venous access is one of the most common surgery procedures worldwide, especially in pediatric surgery. Local and regional complications as the result of venous catheter permanence time are frequently described as: thrombosis, infection, edema and local cellulite, movement and loss of the catheter. Other severe complications such as endocardiac and hemorrhagic lesions are also described and considered the cause of catheter early removal. In the literature few studies have addressed vascular and perivascular lesions and complications as the result of central venous access to peripheral veins, given the difficulty of setting up venous catheterization experimental models to study blood vessels and perivascular tissue alterations after catheterization. In the present venous catheterization experimental model, rabbits were divided into two groups based on the time that the venous catheters were maintained in their veins. Group a composed of 7 New Zealand male rabbits was submitted to a 15-day treatment;and the 6 New Zealand male rabbits of group B were treated during 90 days. Both groups presented similar inflammatory conditions since there was no significant difference between groups. Therefore, the results may well suggest that the endothelial inflammatory reaction could have developed at an early initial short period and by maintaining the catheter, the inflammatory reactions would have decreased or disappeared. Aimed at studying these vascular and perivascular alterations in venous catheterization, the present study proposes an experimental rabbit model that allows the analysis of differences in local vascular and perivascular histological variations and compares histological differences between both venous catheterization groups each of them with different periods of treatment.

Objective： To develop a highly sensitive LC-mS/mS （liquid chromatography-mass spectxometry/mass spectrometry） method applied to the detection and quantitation of UDCA （ursodeoxycholic acid） related substances such as CA （cholic acid）, DCA （deoxycholic acid）, CDCA （chenodeoxycholic acid） and LCA （lithocholic acid） in raw material and pharmaceutical formulation. methods： The method was validated for specificity, linearity, accuracy, precision, robustness. A triple quadrupole mass detector was employed, equipped with an ESI （electrospray ionization） source operated in the negative ion mode. The chromatographic system consisted of a Symmetry C 18 column （150 mm × 4.6 mm, id; particle size 5 μm） and methanol-acetonitrile-ammonium acetate （pH 7.6; 10 mm）（40：40：20, v/v/v） as the mobile phase. The chromatographic conditions were 25 uL injection volume, flow rate of 0.4 mL/min and column temperature set at 35℃. Key tindings： The method requires a minimum sample amount and presents very low LOD （limits of detection） for CA （0.29 ng/mL）, DCA （0.59 ng/mL）, CDCA （0.13 ng/mL） and LCA （0.44 ng/mL） in comparison to LC methods coupled to different detectors like UV （ultraviolet）, fluorescence and refractive index. Conclusions： The developed and validated LC-mS/mS method for the determination of UDCA and related substances in raw material and in a suspension was advantageous since it required a minimum sample amount. In turn, it could be used as a stability indicating method.

Background: Brain atrophy and cognitive deficits persist among individuals with suppressed HIV disease. The impact of cannabis use is unknown. methods: HIV+ and HIV- participants underwent cross-sectional magnetic resonance imaging and neuropsychological testing. Lifetime frequency, duration (years), and recency of cannabis use were self-reported. Relationships of cannabis use to resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) and to 9 regional brain volumes were assessed with corrections for multiple comparisons. Peripheral blood cytokines and monocyte subsets were measured in the HIV+ group and examined in relation to cannabis exposure. Results: We evaluated 52 HIV+ [50.8 ± 7.1 years old;100% on antiretroviral therapy ≥ 3 months;83% with plasma viral load mL] and 55 HIV- [54.0 ± 7.5 years old] individuals. Among HIV+ participants, recent cannabis use (within 12 months) was associated with diminished RSFC, including of occipital cortex, controlling for age. Duration of use correlated negatively with volumes of all regions (most strikingly the nucleus accumbens) independently of recent use and intracranial volume. Recent use was associated with larger caudate and white matter volumes and lower soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 concentrations. Duration of use correlated positively with psychomotor speed. Use > 10 times/lifetime was linked to more somatic symptoms, better executive function, and lower CD14+CD16++ monocyte count. Conclusion: HIV+ individuals demonstrated opposing associations with cannabis. Recent use may weaken RSFC and prolonged consumption may exacerbate atrophy of the accumbens and other brain regions. more frequent or recent cannabis use may reduce the inflammation and CD14mal;"><
