A sensitive electrochemical biosensor for detecting the sequence of short DNAoligomers is represented. The biosensor is based on a platinum electrode covered a polymerizedmembrane of conductive monomer N-[6-(thien-3-yl) acetoxy]-pyrrolidine-2, 5-dione (TAPD). Themembrane of TAPD immobilizes a probe DNA on the electrode. The hybridization of the probe with asequence-specific DNA in sample solutions is monitored by a self-synthesized electroactiveindicator, which specifically intercalates in the hybrids on the electrode surface. The currentsignal of the biosensor is proportional to the concentration of the target DNA in samples, and avery low detection limit of 5 x 10^(-10) mol/l is found. The biosensor has been used to detect theshort oligomers containing of HIV-1 and mycobacterrium nucleotide sequences.

We use the Atiyah-Bott-Segal-Singer lefschetz fixed point formula to calculate the Hirzebruch χy genus χy(S[n]), where S[n] is the Hilbert scheme of points of length n of a surface S. combinatorial interpretation of the weights of the fixed points of the natural torus action on (c2)[n] is used. This is the first step to prove a conjectural formula about the elliptic genus of the Hilbert schemes.

Objective: To study the distribution of human leptospirosis cases across the different geographic regions in the Philippines in 2015-2017 and to determine the relationship between the frequency of typhoon occurrence and human leptospirosis cases. Methods: Information on the frequency of leptospirosis cases and typhoon occurrence across the different regions in the Philippines from 2015 to 2017 was retrieved from the databases of the Department of Health and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, respectively. Descriptive measures on the prevalent cases and occurrence of typhoons across the different regions were summarized. linear regression analysis was employed to establish the functional relationship between leptospirosis cases and typhoon occurrence. The distribution of human leptospirosis cases was assessed using the Poisson distribution. Results: The frequency of typhoon occurrence accounted for the significant linear variation in the geographic distribution of human leptospirosis cases in the Philippines(Pleptospirosis cases obeyed a Poisson distribution(λ=6.89, Pconclusions: The Philippines has frequently experienced severe weather perturbations such as typhoons resulting in flooding and subsequently increasing the risk of transmitting bacterial infections including leptospirosis. Information obtained regarding the determinants and distribution of human leptospirosis will provide better understanding of the disease propagation for subsequent design of optimal disease prevention measures, appropriate resource allocation, effective control strategies, and necessary public health programs.

The phenomenon of combustible dust explosions is present within many industries. Tests for explosibility of dust clouds per ASTM E1226 use a 20 l explosive chamber that places the combustible dust directly below the dispersion nozzle which generates a thorough mixture for testing purposes. However, in the underground coal mining industry, there are a number of geologic, mining, and regulatory factors that change the deposition scheme of combustible coal dust. This causes the atmosphere of a coal mine to have a variable rock dust-coal dust mixture at the time of ignition. To investigate the impact of this variable atmosphere, a series of lean explosibility tests were conducted on a sample of Pittsburgh Pulverized coal dust. These explosibility tests were conducted in a 38 l chamber with a 5 kJ Sobbe igniter. The 38 l chamber generates a variable air-dust mixture prior to ignition. The test results indicate that the 38 l chamber experiences reduced explosive pressures, and lower explosibility index values when compared to the 20 l chamber.

Elevated fibroblast growth factor 23(FGF23)in X-linked hypophosphatemia(XlH)results in rickets and phosphate wasting,manifesting by severe bone and dental ***,a FGF23-neutralizing antibody,an alternative to conventional treatment(phosphorus and active vitamin D analogs),showed significant improvement in the long bone ***,we examined whether FGF23 antibody(FGF23-mAb)also improved the dentoalveolar features associated with ***-week-old male Hyp mice were injected weekly with 4 or 16 mg·kg−1 of FGF23-mAb for 2 months and compared to wild-type(WT)and vehicle(PBS)treated Hyp mice(n=3–7 mice).Micro-cT analyses showed that both doses of FGF23-mAb restored dentin/cementum volume and corrected the enlarged pulp volume in Hyp mice,the higher concentration resulting in a rescue similar to WT ***23-mAb treatment also improved alveolar bone volume fraction and mineral density compared to vehicle-treated *** revealed improved mineralization of the dentoalveolar tissues,with a decreased amount of osteoid,predentin and *** periodontal ligament attachment was also observed,evidenced by restoration of the acellular *** preclinical data were consistent with the retrospective analysis of two patients with XlH showing that burosumab treatment improved oral *** together,our data show that the dentoalveolar tissues are greatly improved by FGF23-mAb treatment,heralding its benefit in clinics for dental abnormalities.

Gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MAlT)lymphoma is a rare disease which is often associated with Helicobacter pylori(***)***-line treatment of stage IE and IIE localized gastric MAlT lymphoma is based on the eradication of *** presence of *** resistance factors such as translocation t(11;18),peri-gastric lymph node involvement and the degree of tumor infiltration of the gastric wall;or lack of response to antibiotic therapy are two main indications to treat with definitive radiotherapy(RT).RT is an effective treatment in localized gastric MAlT lymphoma.A moderate dose of 30 Gy allows a high cure rate while being well *** treatment,regular gastric endoscopic follow-up is necessary to detect a potential occurrence of gastric adenocarcinoma.

The tomentose cochineal scale insect, Dactylopius tomentosus （lamarck）（Hemiptera： Dactylopiidae）, is an important biological control agent against invasive species of cylindropuntia （caryophyllales： cactaceae）. Recent studies have demonstrated that this scale is composed of host-affiliated biotypes with differential host specificity and fitness on particular host species. We investigated genetic variation and phylogenetic rela-tionships among D. tomentosus biotypes and provenances to examine the possibility that genetic diversity may be related to their host-use pattern, and whether their phylogenetic relationships would give insights into taxonomic relatedness of their host plants. Nucleotide sequence comparison was accomplished using sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase I （cOI） gene. Sequences of individuals from the same host plant within a region were identical and characterized by a unique haplotype. Individuals belonging to the same biotype but from different regions had similar haplotypes. However, haplotypes were not shared between different biotypes. Phylogenetic analysis grouped the monophyletic D. tomentosus into 3 well-resolved clades of biotypes. The phylogenetic relationships and clustering of biotypes corresponded with known taxonomic relatedness of their hosts. Two biotypes, Fulgida and Mamillata, tested positive for Wolbachia （α-Proteobacteria）, a common endosymbiont of insects. The Wolbachia sequences were serendipitously detected by using insect-specific cOI DNA barcoding primers and are most similar to Wolbachia Supergroup F strains. This study is the first molecular characterization of cochineal biotypes that, together with Wolbachia sequences, contribute to the better identification of the biotypes of cochineal insects and to the biological control of cacti using host-specific biotypes of the scale.

It has been reported that transplantation of pheochromocytoma P12 and hepatoma cells’ mitochondria improve the locomotive activity and prevent disease progress in experimental Parkinson’s disease rats. To prepare for mitochondrial transplantation study in human neurodegenerative diseases, we select human fibroblasts as mitochondrial donor because that fibroblasts share many characteristics with mesenchymal stromal cells (MScs). We isolate human primary fibroblasts and develop a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-depleted mouse motor neuron NSc-34 cells (NSc-34 ρ° cells). Fibroblast and NSc-34 cell’s mitochondria are co-cultured with NSc-34 ρ° cells. Mitochondrial transplantation is observed by fluorescent microscopy. Gene expression is determined by polymerase chain reaction (PcR) and real time PcR (qPcR). Also, mitochondria are injected to mice bearing mammary adenocarcinoma 4T1 cells. We find results as following: 1) There are abundant mitochondria in fibroblasts (337 ± 80 mitochondria per fibroblast). 42.4% of viable mitochondria are obtained by using differential centrifugation. The isolated mitochondria actively transplant into NSc-34 ρ° cells after co-culture. 2) Fibroblasts transfer mitochondria to human mammary adenocarcinoma McF-7 cells. 3) There is no expression of HlA-I antigen in fibroblast’s mitochondria indicating they can be used for allogeneic mitochondrial transplantation without HlA antigen match. 4) PcR and qPcR show that NSc-34 ρ° cells lose mitochondrially encoded cytochrome c oxidase I (MT-cO1) and mitochondrially encoded NADH dehydrogenase 1 (MT-ND1) and upregulate expression of glycolysis-associated genes hexokinase (HK2), glucose transporter 1 (Slc2A1) and lactate dehydrogenase A (lDHA). 5) Transplantation of NSc-34 mitochondria resto

Habitat suitability models have been used to predict the present and future potential distribution of a variety of species. Eurasian tree sparrowsPasser montanus, native to Eurasia, have established populations in other parts of the world. In North America, their current distribution is limited to a relatively small region around its original introduction to St. louis, Missouri. We combined data from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility with current and future climate data to create habitat suitability models using Maxent for this species. Under projected climate change scenarios, our models show that the distribution and range of the Eurasian tree sparrow could increase as far as the Pacific Northwest and Newfoundland. This is potentially important information for prioritizing the management and control of this non-native species.
