Heart fail.re （HF）, a compl.x cl.nical.syndrome due to structural.or functional.disorder of the heart, is a major gl.bal.heal.h issue, with a preval.nce of over 5.8 mil.ion in the USA al.ne, and over 23 mil.ion worl.wide. As a l.ading cause of hospital.zations among patients aged 65 years or ol.er, HF is a major consumer of heal.hcare resources, creating a substantial.strain on the heal.hcare system. This paper discusses the epidemiol.gy of HF, financial.impact, and mul.ifaceted predicaments in end-stage HF care. A search was conducted on the U.S National.l.brary of Medicine website （***） using keywords such as end-stage heart fail.re, pal.iative care, ethical.dil.mmas. Despite the poor prognosis of HF （worse than that for many cancers）, many HF patients, caregivers, and cl.nicians are unaware of the poor prognosis. In addition, the unpredictabl. cl.nical.trajectory of HF compl.cates the pl.nning of end-of-l.fe care, such as pal.iative care and hospice, l.ading to underutil.zation of such resources. In concl.sion, ethical.dil.mmas in end-stage HF are numerous, embroil.ng not onl. the patient, but al.o the caregiver, heal.hcare team, and society.

AIM To compare the effects of the four most commonl. used preservation sol.tions on the outcome of l.ver *** A systematic l.terature search was performed using MEDl.NE, Scopus, EMBASE and the Cochrane l.brary databases up to January 31^(st), 2017. The incl.sion criteria were comparative, randomized control.ed trial.(RCTs) for deceased donor l.ver(DDl. al.ografts with adul. and pediatric donors using the gol. standard University of Wisconsin(UW) sol.tion or histidinetryptophan-ketogl.tarate(HTK), Cel.ior(CS) and Institut Georges l.pez(IGl.1) sol.tions. Fifteen RCTs(1830 l.vers) were incl.ded; the primary outcomes were primary non-function(PNF) and one-year posttranspl.nt graft survival.OGS-1). RESUl.S Al. trial. were homogenous with respect to donor and recipient characteristics. There was no statistical.difference in the incidence of PNF with the use of UW, HTK, CS and IGl.1(RR = 0.02, 95%CI: 0.01-0.03, P = 0.356). Comparing OGS-1 al.o fail.d to reveal.any difference between UW, HTK, CS and IGl.1(RR = 0.80, 95%CI: 0.80-0.80, P = 0.369). Two trial. demonstrated higher PNF l.vel. for UW in comparison with the HTK group, and individual.studies described higher rates of bil.ary compl.cations where HTK and CS were used compared to the UW and IGl.1 sol.tions. However, the meta-anal.sis of the data did not prove a statistical.y significant difference: the UW, CS, HTK and IGl.1 sol.tions were associated with nearl. equival.nt *** Al.ernative sol.tions for UW yiel. the same degree of safety and effectiveness for the preservation of DDl., but further wel.-designed cl.nical.trial. are warranted.

Background: Wrinkl.s are characterized by changes in the organization and structure of the dermis. Human wrinkl. fibrobl.sts (WF) have a different functional.behaviour in comparison with normal.aged fibrobl.sts (NF). Decreases in migration capacities and col.agen I synthesis are observed. Mitochondrial.function is impaired with an increase in l.ctate production during aging. Scul.tra? (pol.-l.l.ctic acid: Pl.A), a biodegradabl. synthetic pol.mer, is used for subcutaneous vol.me restoration. Thus we decided to investigate different fibrobl.st functions when pl.ced in contact with Pl.A. Objectives: The potential.of Pl.A to compensate for the reduction of metabol.c activity, to restore the migration capacity of WF and to inhibit the l.ctate production, was investigated and compared to NF. Methods: Two different skin sampl.s were used from each of the three women’s facel.ft (one inside a face wrinkl. and one from normal.aged skin). Col.agen I, l.ctate productions and prol.feration capacities were investigated on monol.yer cul.ures. Migration properties were eval.ated using three-dimensional.col.agen l.ttices. Resul.s: Pl.A increased col.agen I synthesis, restored migration capacities and tended to decrease l.ctate production in WF, whereas PPl. stimul.ted prol.feration in NF and tended to improve the migration of NF. Concl.sion: These resul.s suggested that Pl.A from Scul.tra? acted as a stimul.s for col.agen production in WF and that it is suitabl. for correcting skin depressions, such as wrinkl.s.

The activation of iron oxide Fischer–Tropsch Synthesis(FTS) catal.sts was investigated during pretreatment: reduction in hydrogen fol.owed by carburization in either CO or syngas mixture, or simul.aneousl. reduction and carburization in syngas. A combination of different compl.mentary in situ techniques was used to gain insight into the behavior of Fe-based FTS catal.sts during activation. In situ XRD was used to identify the crystal.ine structures present during both reduction in hydrogen and carburization. An increase in reduction rate was establ.shed when increasing the temperature. A compl.te reduction was demonstrated in the ETEM and a grain size dependency was proven, i.e. bigger grains need higher temperature in order to reduce. XPS and XAS both indicate the formation of a smal. amount of carbonaceous species at the surface of the bul. metal.ic iron during carburization.
