Background:Physical activity(PA)is important for cancer *** of remotely delivered interventions are needed to assist in reaching under-served non-metropolitan cancer *** objective of this study was to ascertain whether wearable technology,coupled with health coaching was effective in increasing PA in breast and colorectal cancer survivors living in regional and remote areas in ***:Cancer survivors from 5 states were randomized to intervention and control *** participants were given a Fitbit Charge 2TMand received up to 6 telephone health coaching *** participants received PA print *** assessments at baseline and 12 weeks measured moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA),light PA,and sedentary ***:Eighty-seven participants were recruited(age=63±11 years;74(85%)female).There was a significant net improvement in MVPA of 49.8 min/week,favoring the intervention group(95%confidence interval(95%CI):13.6-86.1,p=0.007).There was also a net increase in MVPA bouts of 39.5 min/week(95%CI:11.9-67.1,p=0.005),favoring the intervention *** groups improved light PA and sedentary behavior,but there were no between-group ***:This’s the first study to demonstrate that,when compared to standard practice(i.e.,PA education),a wearable technology intervention coupled with distance-based health coaching,improves MVPA in non-metropolitan cancer *** results display promise for the use of scalable interventions using smart wearable technology in conjunction with phone-based health coaching to foster increased PA in geographically disadvantaged cancer survivors.

Due to a paucity of surveys in northern Indochina and lack of international collaborations among neighboring countries, recognized distributional ranges for many amphibian and reptile species end at the political borders for some countries, despite seemingly continuous suitable habitat spanning the region. Combining both morphological and genetic data, we report the first discovery of Japalura chapaensis, a rare agamid lizard believed previously to be endemic to northern Vietnam only, along the border region of southeastern Yunnan Province,China. To facilitate future research on the genus Japalura sensu lato in Indochina, we provide detailed descriptions of additional specimens of this rare species, including the first description of coloration in life and an expanded diagnosis, and discuss the species boundary of J. chapaensis with respect to its congeners.

Resection margin influences the outcome of patients with bilobar colorectal liver metastases

AIMTo evaluate the outcome of patients with bilobar colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) and identify clinico-pathological variables that influenced survival. METHODSPatients with bilobar CRLM were identified from a prospectively maintained hepatobiliary database during the study period (January 2010-June 2014). Collated data included demographics, primary tumour treatment, surgical data, histopathology analysis and clinical outcome. Down-staging therapy included Oxaliplatin- or Irinotecan- based regimens, and Cetuximab was also used in patients that were K-RAS wild-type. Response to neo-adjuvant therapy was assessed at the multi-disciplinary team meeting and considered for surgery if all macroscopic CRLM were resectable with a clear margin while preserving sufficient liver parenchyma. RESULTSOf the 136 patients included, thirty-two (23.5%) patients were considered inoperable and referred for palliative chemotherapy, and thirty-four (25%) patients underwent liver resection. Seventy (51.4%) patients underwent down-staging therapy, of which 37 (52.8%) patients responded sufficiently to undergo liver resection. Patients that failed to respond to down-staging therapy (n = 33, 47.1%) were referred for palliative therapy. There was a significant difference in overall survival between the three groups (surgery vs down-staging therapy vs inoperable disease, P P P = 0.017). On multi-variate analysis, R0 resection (P = 0.030) and female (P = 0.036) gender significantly influenced overall survival. COnCLUSIOnPatients undergoing liver resection with bilobar CRLM have a significantly better survival outcome. R0 resection is associated with improved disease-free and overall survival in this patient group.

Background:Patients with burn injuries are considered to have an increased risk of venous thromboembolism(VTE).While untreated VTEs can be fatal,no studies have examined chemoprophylaxis *** study aimed to quantify the variation in prevalence of VTE prophylaxis use in patients in Australian and new Zealand burns units and whether prophylaxis use is associated with in-hospital outcomes following burn ***:Admission data for adult burns patients(aged≥16 years)admitted between 1 July 2016 and 31 December 2018 were extracted from the Burns Registry of Australia and new *** effects logistic regression modelling investigated whether VTE prophylaxis usewas associated with the primary outcome of in-hospital ***:There were 5066 admissions over the study *** these patients,81%(n=3799)with a valid response to the VTE prophylaxis data field received some form of VTE *** of VTE prophylaxis ranged from 48.6%to 94.8%of patients between ***-hospital death was recorded innts(n=33).After adjusting for confounders,receiving VTE prophylaxis was associated with a decrease in the adjusted odds of in-hospital mortality(adjusted odds ratio=0.21;95%CI,0.07–0.63;p=0.006).Conclusions:Variation in the use of VTE prophylaxis was observed between the units,and prophylaxis use was associated with a decrease in the odds of *** findings provide an opportunity to engage with units to further explore differences in prophylaxis use and develop future best practice guidelines.

X-ray micro-computed tomography(μ-CT)can be used to provide both qualitative and quantitative information on the structure of three-dimensional(3D)bioactive *** performed in a dry state,μ-CT accurately reflects the structure of collagen-based scaffolds,but imaging in a wet state offers challenges with *** we have used phosphotungstic acid(PTA)as a contrast agent to visualise fully hydrated collagen scaffolds in a physiologically relevant environment.A systematic investigation was performed to understand the effects of PTA on the results of μ-CT imaging by varying sample processing variables such as crosslinking density,hydration medium and staining *** samples in 0.3% PTA solution overnight completely stained the samples and the treatment provided a successful route forμ-CT analysis of crosslinked ***,significant structural artefacts were observed for samples which were either non-crosslinked or had low levels of crosslinking,which had a heterogeneous interior architecture with collapsed pores at the scaffold *** work highlights the importance of optimising the choice of processing and staining conditions to ensure accurate visualisation for hydrated 3D collagen scaffolds in an aqueous medium.

INTRODUCTION: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is commonly used for refractory cardiac or respiratory failure. There are reported cases of successful use of ECMO in patients with septic shock;however, there is a lack of evidence to prove its overall efficacy. Thus, we conducted this study to analyze the relationship between sepsis and ECMO in our own patients.n>n> n>n>METHODSn>n>: 305 patients who were placed on ECMO between 2010 and 2020 were identified within an IRB-approved database. Their clinical outcomes were analyzed with a specific focus on patients who were septic before or during ECMO, defined as a positive blood culture. Group S was composed of patients with a positive blood culture before or during ECMO, while Group N was composed of all patients without a positive blood culture before or during ECMO. The primary outcome compared between groups was ECMO survival rate. RESULTS: Among the 305 patients on ECMO, 58 (19%) were in Group S and 247 (81%) were in Group N. This paper is devoted to the study of a nonlinear evolution eddy current model of the type δtB（H）＋ △↓× （ △↓ × H） =0 subject to homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions H × v = 0 and a given initial datum. Here, the magnetic properties of a soft ferromagnet are linked by a nonlinear material law described by B（H）. We apply the backward Euler method for the time discretization and we derive the error estimates in suitable function spaces. The results depend on the nonlinearity of B（H）.

Porous biomaterials which provide a structural and biological support for cells have immense potential in tissue engineering and cell-based therapies for tissue *** biomaterials that can host endothelial cells represent promising tools for the vascularization of engineered ***-dimensional collagen scaffolds possessing controlled architecture and mechanical stiffness are obtained through freeze–drying of collagen suspensions,followed by chemical cross-linking which maintains their ***,cross-linking scaffolds renders their biological activity suboptimal for many cell types,including human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs),by inhibiting cell–collagen ***,we have improved crucial HUVEC interactions with such cross-linked collagen biomaterials by covalently coupling combinations of triple-helical peptides(THPs).These are ligands for collagen-binding cell-surface receptors(integrins or discoidin domain receptors)or secreted proteins(SPARC and von Willebrand factor).THPs enhanced HUVEC adhesion,spreading and proliferation on 2D collagen *** grafted to 3D-cross-linked collagen scaffolds promoted cell survival over seven *** study demonstrates that THP-functionalized collagen scaffolds are promising candidates for hosting endothelial cells with potential for the production of vascularized engineered tissues in regenerative medicine applications.

Tissue engineering response may be tailored via controlled,sustained release of active agents from protein-loaded degradable microparticles incorporated directly within three-dimensional(3D)ice-templated collagen ***,the effects of covalent crosslinking during scaffold preparation on the availability and release of protein from the incorporated microparticles have not been ***,we load 3D ice-templated collagen scaffolds with controlled additions of poly-(DL-lactide-co-glycolide)*** probe the effects of subsequent n-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-n0-ethylcarbodiimide hydrochloride crosslinking on protein release,using microparticles with different internal protein *** isothiocyanate labelled bovine serum albumin is used as a model protein *** scaffolds display a homogeneous microparticle distribution,and a reduction in pore size and percolation diameter with increased microparticle addition,although these values did not fall below those reported as necessary for cell *** protein distribution within the microparticles,near the surface or more deeply located within the microparticles,was important in determining the release profile and effect of crosslinking,as the surface was affected by the carbodiimide crosslinking reaction applied to the *** of microparticles with a high proportion of protein at the surface caused both a reduction and delay in protein *** located within the bulk of the microparticles,was protected from the crosslinking reaction and no delay in the overall release profile was seen.
