Insights into the origin of precipitation moisture for tropical cyclones during rapid intensification process

In this study,we identiﬁed the moisture sources for the precipitation associated with tropical cyclones(Tcs)during the rapid intensiﬁcation(RI)process from 1980 to 2018 by applying a Lagrangian moisture source diagnostic *** detected sixteen regions on a global scale for RI events distributed as follows:four in the North Atlantic(NATL),two in the central and East Paciﬁc Ocean(NEPAc),the North Indian Ocean(NIO)and South Indian Ocean(SIO),and three in the South Paciﬁc Ocean(SPO)and the Western North Paciﬁc Ocean(WNP).The moisture uptake(MU)mostly was from the regions where Tcs underwent *** Western NATL,tropical NATL,caribbean Sea,the Gulf of Mexico and the central America and Mexico landmass supported~85.4%of the precipitating moisture in the NATL,while the latter source and the eastern North Paciﬁc Ocean provided the higher amount of moisture in NEPAc(~84.3%).The Arabian Sea,the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Peninsula were the major moisture sources in NIO,contributing approximately 81.3%.The eastern and western parts of the Indian Ocean supplied most of the atmospheric humidity in SIO(~83.8%).The combined contributions(~87.9%)from the western and central SPO and the coral Sea were notably higher in ***,Tcs in the WNP basin mostly received moisture from the western North Paciﬁc Ocean,the Philippine Sea and the china Sea,accounting for 80.1%.The remaining moisture support in each basin came from the summed contributions of the remote ***,RI Tcs gained more moisture up to 2500 km from the cyclone centre than those slow intensiﬁcation(SI)and the total MU was approximately three times higher during RI than ***,the patterns of the MU differences respond to the typical pathways of moisture transport in each basin.

Metamizole(MZ)is a widely used anti-inflammatory *** to its common use,this contaminant is found in sewage and *** order to reduce the contamination produced by the MZ,we fabricated in this work a photocatalytic composite using recycled polyethylene(RPE)and the caLacoO_(9)(LccO)*** nanoparticles had a microplate-like morphology and sizes of 1.4–5.5μm according to the analysis of *** photocatalytic properties of the LccO powders were evaluated under ultraviolet-visible(UV-Vis)irradiation and found a removal efficiency of 96%.When the RPE+LccO composite was employed for the photocatalytic degradation of MZ,a maximum degradation of 92.5%was *** influence of the pH on the photocatalytic activity was also studied and found that an initial pH=3 produced a total degradation of MZ after 240 min of UV-Vis ***,three reuse cycles were carried out for the pure LccO powders and for the RPE+LccO composites and found that the maximum loss of degradation was 5%.Furthermore,scavenger experiments demonstrated that the super oxide and hydroxyl radicals are formed during the photocatalytic reaction and were responsible for the degradation of ***,the X-ray photoelectron-spectroscopy and Raman analysis demonstrated the formation of defects(oxygen vacancies),those ones delayed the electron-hole recombination,which in turn,enhanced the degradation of the ***,the studies performed in this work proved that composites made with recycled plastics and LccO perovskites are a low-cost and feasible alternative for the cleaning of water sources polluted with pharmaceutical compounds.

Multidimensional integration and multifunctional com-ponent assembly have been greatly explored in recent years to extend Moore’s Law of modern ***,this inevitably exac-erbates the inhomogeneity of temperature distribution in microsystems,making precise temperature control for electronic components extremely ***,we report an on-chip micro temperature controller including a pair of thermoelectric legs with a total area of 50×50μm^(2),which are fabricated from dense and flat freestanding Bi2Te3-based ther-moelectric nano films deposited on a newly developed nano graphene oxide membrane *** tunable equivalent thermal resistance is controlled by electrical currents to achieve energy-efficient temperature control for low-power electronics.A large cooling temperature difference of 44.5 K at 380 K is achieved with a power consumption of only 445μW,resulting in an ultrahigh temperature control capability over 100 K mW^(-1).Moreover,an ultra-fast cooling rate exceeding 2000 K s^(-1) and excellent reliability of up to 1 million cycles are *** proposed on-chip temperature controller is expected to enable further miniaturization and multifunctional integration on a single chip for microelectronics.

Impact of prehospital medical evacuation (MEDEVAc) transport time on combat mortality in patients with noncompressible torso injury and traumatic amputations: a retrospective study

Background: In combat operations, patients with traumatic injuries require expeditious evacuation to improve survival. Studies have shown that long transport times are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Limited data exist on the influence of transport time on patient outcomes with specific injury types. The objective of this study was to determine the impact of the duration of time from the initial request for medical evacuation to arrival at a medical treatment facility on morbidity and mortality in casualties with traumatic extremity amputation and noncompressible torso injury(NcTI).Methods: We completed a retrospective review of MEDEVAc patient care records for United States military personnel who sustained traumatic amputations and NcTI during Operation Enduring Freedom between January 2011 and March 2014. We grouped patients as traumatic amputation and NcTI(AMP+NcTI), traumatic amputation only(AMP),and neither AMP nor NcTI(Non-AMP/NcTI). Analysis was performed using chi-squared tests, Fisher's exact tests,cochran-Armitage Trend tests, Shapiro-Wilks tests, Wilcoxon and Kruskal-Wallis techniques and cox proportional hazards regression ***: We reviewed 1267 records, of which 669 had an injury severity score(ISS) of 10 or greater and were included in the analysis. In the study population, 15.5% sustained only amputation injuries(n=104, AMP only), 10.8% sustained amputation and NcTI(n=72, AMP+NcTI), and 73.7% did not sustain either an amputation or an NcTI(n=493,Non-AMP/NcTI). AMP+NcTI had the highest mortality(16.7%) with transport time greater than 60 min. While the AMP+NcTI group had decreasing survival with longer transport times, AMP and Non-AMP/NcTI did not exhibit the same ***: A decreased transport time from the point of injury to a medical treatment facility was associated with decreased mortality in patients who suffered a combination of amputation injury and NcTI. Background: Dietary supplement use(protein/amino acids, weight-loss supplements, performance enhancers) is common among U.S. military members. Reported dietary supplement use in deployed troops is limited and is of concern in settings where troops are exposed to high ambient temperatures, increased physical demands, and dehydration. Our objective was to describe dietary supplement use and adverse events(AEs) among deployed U.S. service members compared with their pre-deployment ***: We conducted an institutional review board(IRB) approved, descriptive study in Afghanistan using a written questionnaire and collected demographic information, dietary supplement use before and during deployment, AEs associated with supplement use, and physical workout routines. Participants were U.S. military personnel of all branches of service deployed to Afghanistan. They were recruited in high-traffic areas in the combat theater. We analyzed the data with descriptive statistics. Paired t-test/Wilcoxon signed-rank test was conducted to examine the before/during deployment changes for continuous data, and Mc Nemar's chi-square test was conducted for categorical data. We constructed separate logistic regression models to determine the best predictors of increases or decreases in dietary supplement use, with demographic information, reasons for using supplements, and education requested/received as covariates in each model. All statistical tests were two-sided at a significance level of 5%(Pcollected on 1685 participants. Ninety-seven of the participants were in the Army or Air Force. The participants were more likely to work out daily or more than once a day during deployment. Thirty-five percent of the participants reported no supplement use before or during deployment. This study was aimed at establishing a computational strategy to selectively refine a given initial arbitrary finite element (FE) mesh in order to progressively obtain better estimates for the maximum shearing stresses in non-circular cross sectional torsional members. The strategy utilized is based on the mathematical analogy between the torsional problem and the deflection of a membrane problem. According to this analogy, there is a direct correspondence between the gradients of a deflected membrane and the magnitudes of the shearing torsional stresses acting on a cross section, provided that the membrane exhibits the same boundary shape as the one exhibited by the cross sectional area of the loaded torsional member. The analogy also states that the resultant shearing stresses at each point in the cross section are aligned with the level lines (LL) corresponding to the deflected membrane. If the LL's are picked at equal level intervals the regions where they become closer to one another are clear indications of 1 arger membrane gradients and as a result providing a pointer to locations of larger shearing stresses as well, thus identifying the sub-regions where FE refinement is required to produce better approximations to the magnitudes of the shearing stresses. The proposed procedure provides a graphical visual tool to selectively refine a FE mesh to improve maximum shearing stress estimates for the problems treated here. A Delphi environment based graphical interface was developed to aid in visualizing all the geometric aspects described herein such as deflected membrane, FE mesh, LL, refined meshes etc. This visualization process requires 3D real number to 2D real number transformations, as well as 2D real number to 2D integer pixels numbers transformations. compar isons between the results of applying the proposed scheme and known analytic solutions to benchmark problems exhibit the necessary convergence characteristics. Numerical results will be presented.
