NEcAB family of neuronal calcium-binding proteins in health and disease

The N-terminal EF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NEcAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the presence of at least one EF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized c-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NEcAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NEcAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NEcAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the capacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NEcAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NEcAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NEcAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NEcAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NEcAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influence protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NEcAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the EF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. In this work,we study a predator-prey model of Gause type,in which the prey growth rate is subject to an Allee effect and the action of the predator over the prey is determined by a generalized hyperbolic-type functional response,which is neither differentiable nor locally Lipschitz at the predator *** kind of functional response is an extension of the so-called square root functional response,used to model systems in which the prey have a strong herd *** study the behavior of the solutions in the first quadrant and the existence of limit *** prove that,for a wide choice of parameters,the solutions arrive at the predator axis in finite *** also characterize the existence of an equilibrium point and,when it exists,we provide necessary and sufficient conditions for it to be a center-type *** fact,we show that the set of parameters that yield a center-type equilibrium,is the graph of a function with an open *** also prove that any center-type equilibrium is stable and it always possesses a supercritical Hopf *** particular,we guarantee the existence of a unique limit cycle,for small perturbations of the system.

Diabetes and inflammatory diseases:An overview from the perspective of ca^(2+)/3'-5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate signaling

A large amount of evidence has supported a clinical link between diabetes and inflammatory diseases,e.g.,cancer,dementia,and *** addition,it is also suggested that dysregulations related to ca^(2+)signaling could link these diseases,in addition to 3'-5'-cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP)signaling ***,revealing this interplay between diabetes and inflammatory diseases may provide novel insights into the pathogenesis of these *** involving signaling pathways related to ca^(2+)and cAMP,inflammation,diabetes,dementia,cancer,and hypertension(alone or combined)were collected by searching PubMed and *** signaling pathways,ca^(2+)and cAMP signaling,control the release of neurotransmitters and hormones,in addition to neurodegeneration,and tumor ***,there is a clear relationship between ca^(2+)signaling,e.g.,increased ca^(2+)signals,and inflammatory *** also regulates pro-and anti-inflammatory *** to the experience of our group in this field,this article discusses the role of ca^(2+)and cAMP signaling in the correlation between diabetes and inflammatory diseases,including its pharmacological *** a novelty,this article also includes:(1)A timeline of the major events in ca^(2+)/cAMP signaling;and(2)As coronavirus disease 2019(cOVID-19)is an emerging and rapidly evolving situation,this article also discusses recent reports on the role of ca^(2+)channel blockers for preventing ca^(2+)signaling disruption due to cOVID-19,including the correlation between cOVID-19 and diabetes.

Stable NiO-ceO_(2) nanoparticles with improved carbon resistance for methane dry reforming

High surface area mixed oxide 8.7%NiO-ceO_(2) nanoparticles(122 m2/g;6-7 nm)were prepared using a reversed microemulsion method,and were tested for dry methane reforming(DRM).The catalytic activity of these nanoparticles remains stable under the severe conditions of DRM(700℃),and they show better carbon resistance than conventional NiO-ceO_(2) catalysts prepared without control of the *** activity and selectivity of nanoparticles and reference catalyst are similar,but nanoparticles reduce the accumulation of carbon by 63%during the DRM tests,which is a key feature for this *** and H_(2)-TPR suggest that the improved carbon resistance of the nanoparticles is due to the better interaction and cooperation between NiO and ceO_(2) mixed *** nanoparticles,the participation of cerium cations in the redox processes taking place during DRM stabilizes cationic species of *** the contrary,the catalyst prepared without control of the size suffers segregation of Ni during DRM reaction,and segregated Ni explains the higher catalytic formation of carbon.

Retinal neurodegenerative diseases like agerelated macular degeneration,glaucoma,diabetic retinopathy or retinitis pigmentosa are the most frequent causes of incurable low vision and blindness *** had been estimated that the prevalence of these diseases varies between 1/750 and 1/5000 depending on the region,the level of consanguinity or ethnicity(Na et al.,2017).The functional and structural complexity of the retina makes it susceptible to multiple types of pathogenic damage.

Petrogenesis of Granites from the Ediacaran Socorro Batholith,SE Brazil:constraints from Zircon Dating,Geochemistry and Sr-Nd-Hf Isotopes

Whole rock elemental and Sr-Nd isotope geochemistry and in situ zircon Hf isotope geochemistry were used to identify the sources of the Neoproterozoic granites from the Socorro batholith,Socorro-GuaxupéNappe(SGN),South Brasilia Orogen,*** trace elements and Hf isotope geochemistry provided information about sources and crystallization(T,f_(O2))*** main types of granites built the bulk of the batholiths,beginning with probably pre-collisional~640–630 Ma charnockites,and ending with~610 Ma voluminous post-collisional high-K calc-alkaline(HKcA)Ⅰ-type granites(Bragan?a Paulista-type).Several types of leucogranites were generated from 625 to 610 Ma,spanning the interval from collisional to post-collisional *** charnockite bodies occur in the study area:the~640 Ma Socorro charnockite has remarkable chemical similarities with Braganca Paulista-type granites,but higherε_(Nd)(t)=-6.1 and average zirconε_(Hf)(t)=-9.1 and lower^(86)Sr/^(87)Sr_(t)(0.7093)values,indicative of more juvenile and water-poor ***~633 Ma Atibaia charnockite has distinct geochemical signature(lower Mg^(#)and Sr content;higher Zr),more negativeε_(Nd)(t)=-14.1,similar average zirconε_(Hf)(t)=-8.9,and much higher^(86)Sr/^(87)Sr_(t)=0.7197,probably reflecting a larger component from old *** predominant~610 Ma Bragan?a Paulista-type granites were emplaced in a post-collisional setting,and correspond to porphyritic biotite-hornblende monzogranites of high-K calc-alkaline character with 61 wt.%–67 wt.%SiO_(2),high Mg^(#)(39–42),Sr/Y(19–40),La/Yb(12–69),highly negativeε_(Nd)(t)(-12.3 to-12.9)and zirconε_(Hf)(t)(-12 to-17)and^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr_(t)=0.7119–*** features are interpreted as indicative of magma generation in a thickened crust,where melts from enriched mantle sources emplaced in the lowermost crust,heated host old continental crust rocks(gneisses and granulites)and partially mixed with their melting *** plutons(SiO_(2)>72 wt.%)occur

The historical relationships of nine areas of endemism of the tropical montane cloud forests(TMcFs)were analysed based on a temporal cladistic biogeographical *** cladistic biogeographical analyses were conducted based on 29cladograms of terrestrial taxa by partitioning them into three time-slices,namely,Miocene,Pliocene,and *** results showed different area relationships over *** the Miocene and Pliocene time slices,the Isthmus of Tehuantepec acted as a geographic barrier that fragmented the TMcFs into two portions:west of the Isthmus and east of the *** the case of the Pleistocene,the TMcFs were broken into two portions,one related to the Neotropical region and the other to the Nearctic ***,the analyses allowed us to detect the influences of different geological and paleoclimatological events on the distribution of the TMcFs over ***,the TMcFs current distribution might have been driven by geological events during the Miocene-Pliocene,whereas climatic fluctuations have the highest impact during the Pleistocene.
