Laurel forests are quite relevant for biodiversity conservation and are among the island ecosystems most severely damaged by human *** the past,canary laurel forests have been greatly altered by logging,livestock and *** remains of laurel forests are currently protected in the canary Islands(Spain).However,we miss basic information needed for their restoration and adaptive management,such as tree longevity,growth potential and responsiveness to natural and anthropogenic *** dendrochronological methods,we studied how forest dynamic is related to land-use change and windstorms in two well-preserved laurel forests on Tenerife *** cores were collected from over 80 trees per stand at three stands per *** used ring-width series to estimate tree ages and calculate annual basal area increments(BAI),cumulative diameter increases,and changes indicative of released and suppressed *** tree species were found in all stands,with Laurus novocanariensis,Ilex canariensis and morella faya being the most common *** some individuals were over 100 years old,61.8%-88.9% of the trees per stand established between 1940 and 1970,coinciding with a post-war period of land abandonment,rural exodus and the onset of a tourism *** trees have shown growth rates larger than 1 cm diameter per year and most species have had increasing BAI trends over the past *** growth releases occurred after windstorms at both sites,but the effects of windstorms were site-dependent,with the 1958 storm affecting mainly the eastern tip of the island(Anaga massif)and the 1991 storm the western tip(Teno massif).Given the great ability of laurel forest trees to establish after land use cessation and to increase growth after local disturbances such as windstorms,passive restoration may be sufficient to regenerate this habitat in currently degraded areas.

Weave geometry generation avoiding interferences for mesoscale RVEs

An algorithm which allows the generation of representative volume elements(RVEs) for complex woven and warp-interlaced fiber-reinforced composite topologies while avoiding unphysical tow intersections is presented. This is achieved by extending an existing RVE generation strategy in two significant ways:(1) the local cross section shape of the tow is adjusted depending on the local tow curvature in a way that preserves the cross sectional area of the tow, and(2) the elementary crimp interval is separated into a planar and a transition region. The modifications facilitate the generation of a wide range of elaborate textile topologies without tow intersections, which are present without the proposed modifications unless complex tow to tow contact models are introduced. The mechanical properties of plain weaves were predicted based on the topology generated with the proposed algorithm as well as based on RVEs which were constructed based on actual micrographs, i.e. a "digital twin" of the actual microstructure. A comparison of the predicted mechanical properties based on finite element and multiscale Generalized method of cells techniques shows close agreement. However, some differences exist with respect to experimentally determined material parameters due to the finite dimensions of the specimens. Lastly,mechanical properties of multilayered weaves are predicted with the finite element method. The considered material systems are carbon fiber in epoxy matrix as well as c/c-Sic. However, the procedure is applicable to a wide range of material systems.

We report the discovery of three new pulsars in the globular cluster(Gc)NGc 6517,namely NGc 6517 E,F and G,made with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST).The spin periods of NGc 6517 E,F and G are 7.60 ms,24.89 ms and 51.59 ms,*** dispersion measures are 183.29,183.713 and 185.3 pc cm^(-3),respectively,all slightly larger than those of the previously known pulsars in this *** spin period derivatives are at the level of 1×10^(-18) s s^(-1),which suggests these are recycled *** addition to the discovery of these three new pulsars,we updated the timing solutions of the known isolated pulsars,NGc 6517 A,c and *** solutions are consistent with those from Lynch et *** with smaller timing *** the timing solution,NGc6517 A,B(position from Lynch et al.),c,E and F are very close to each other on the sky and only a few arcseconds from the optical core of NGc *** currently published and unpublished discoveries,nine pulsars have been discovered in NGc 651,ranking it 6 thfor Gcs with the most known *** discoveries take advantage of the high sensitivity of FAST and a new algorithm used to check and filter possible candidate signals.

The Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point （GSSP） for the Katian Stage of the Upper Ordovician Series is defined as the 4.0 m-level above the base of the Bigfork chert in the Black Knob Ridge section, southeastern Oklahoma. This point in this section is coincident with the first appearance of the graptolite Diplacanthograptus caudatus, which has proved to be a reliable datum for precise worldwide correlation. The FAD ofD. caudatus occurs very near the first occurrences of the graptolites D. lanceolatus, *** americanus, Orthograptus pageanus, O. quadrimucronatus, Dicranograptus hians, and Neurograptus margaritatus. This rapid succession of fossil species appearance events provides a secure basis for identification of the base of the Katian Stage of the Upper Ordovician Series and for its global chronostratigraphic correlation.

Treatment strategies for chronic hepatitis c prior to andfollowing liver transplantation

Hepatitis c virus(HcV)-related liver disease is the leading indication for liver transplantation(LT) worldwide. However, HcV is an independent predictor of lower survival following LT, and recurrence of HcV postLT is virtually universal. The historic standard of care during the interferon era of HcV therapy was expectant management-initiation of antiviral therapy in the setting of documented disease progression following LT. With the advent of new direct acting antiviral(DAA) therapies for HcV, the paradigm of expectant treatment for recurrent HcV infection post-LT is shifting. The safety, tolerability, and efficacy of DAAs, even among the sickest patients with advanced liver disease, enables treatment of HcV in the pre-transplant setting among LT waitlist registrants. Finally, emerging data are supportive of preemptive therapy with DAAs in liver transplant recipients as the preferred approach. Expectant management of HcV following LT can rarely be justified in the modern era of HcV therapy.

Involvement of autophagy in alcoholic liver injury and hepatitis c pathogenesis

This review describes the principal pathways of macroautophagy (i.e. autophagy), microautophagy and chaperone-mediated autophagy as they are currently known to occur in mammalian cells. Because of its crucial role as an accessory digestive organ, the liver has a particularly robust autophagic activity that is sensitive to changes in plasma and dietary components. Ethanol consumption causes major changes in hepatic protein and lipid metabolism and both are regulated by autophagy, which is significantly affected by hepatic ethanol metabolism. Ethanol exposure enhances autophagosome formation in liver cells, but suppresses lysosome function. Excessive ethanol consumption synergizes with hepatitis c virus (HcV) to exacerbate liver injury, as alcohol-consuming HcV patients frequently have a longer course of infection and more severe manifestations of chronic hepatitis than abstinent HcV patients. Alcohol-elicited exacerbation of HcV infection pathogenesis is related to modulation by ethanol metabolism of HcV replication. Additionally, as part of this mechanism, autophagic proteins have been shown to regulate viral (HcV) replication and their intracel-lular accumulation. Because ethanol induces autophagosome expression, enhanced levels of autophagic proteins may enhance HcV infectivity in liver cells of alcoholics and heavy drinkers.

Aim: To study the prevalence rate of unconnected refractive error and associated risk factors among Singapore schoolchildren aged 12-16 years (grade 7). methods: A cross sectional study of 628 participants (participation rate 99.8%) was conducted in two schools. An interviewer led questionnaire asking about sociodemographic variables and risk factors was administered. Refractive errors were measured using a table mounted autorefractor. Participants with habitual visual acuity (va) of 0.2 logmAR or worse underwent subjective refraction. Uncorrected refractive error was defined as improvement of at least 0.2 logmAR in best corrected visual acuity after subjective refraction. Results: The prevalence rate of uncorrected refractive error was 22.3%(95%confidence interval (cI) 19.0%to 25.5%). The multivariate adjusted odds ratio of uncorrected refractive error in students with the lowest academic ability was 2.24 (95%cI 1.34 to 3.73). Increasing time interval since the last visit to an eye care provider increased the risk of uncorrected refractive error (trend p=0.001). conclusion: Uncorrected refractive error was a significant problem among Singapore students aged 12-16 years (grade 7). Uncorrected refractive error was more common among students with low academic ability or those who had not visited an eye care provider for a long time.

治疗药物监测(Therapeutic Drug monitoring,TDm)通过定量测定和解释血药浓度以优化药物治疗。TDm着眼于药代动力学的个体差异,使个体化药物治疗成为可能。在精神病学和神经病学领域中,有可能明显获益于TDm的主要患者群体包括少年儿童、孕妇、老年患者、智障患者、药物滥用者、涉法精神病患者、已知或怀疑药代动力学异常的患者以及合并躯体疾病影响药代动力学的患者。常规剂量下治疗无效,用药依从性难以判断,药物耐受性不佳,以及可能存在药代动力学方面的药物-药物相互作用等情况都是治疗药物监测的典型指征。然而,只有将TDm充分整合到临床治疗过程中,才能发挥其优化药物治疗的潜在优势。为了向临床医生和实验室提供有效的TDm信息,神经精神药理学与药物精神病学协会(Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Neuropsychopharmakologie und Pharmakopsychiatrie,AGNP)的TDm专家组在2004年发表了第一版《精神科治疗药物监测指南》。2011年进行了更新之后,现在再次更新。遵循新版指南,可能会改善神经精神药物治疗的效果,加快很多患者的康复,并降低医疗费用。
