Automated pavement horizontal curve measurement methods based on inertial measurement unit and 3D profiling data

Pavement horizontal curve is designed to serve as a transition between straight segments, and its presence may cause a series of driving-related safety issues to motorists and drivers. As is recognized that traditional methods for curve geometry investigation are time consuming, labor intensive, and inaccurate, this study attempts to develop a method that can automatically conduct horizontal curve identification and measurement at network level. The digital highway data vehicle （DHDV） was utilized for data collection, in which three Euler angles, driving speed, and acceleration of survey vehicle were measured with an inertial measurement unit （IMU）. The 3D profiling data used for cross slope calibration was obtained with PaveVision3D Ultra technology at 1 mm resolution. In this study, the curve identification was based on the variation of heading angle, and the curve radius was calculated with ki- nematic method, geometry method, and lateral acceleration method. In order to verify the accuracy of the three methods, the analysis of variance （ANOVA） test was applied by using the control variable of curve radius measured by field test. Based on the measured curve radius, a curve safety analysis model was used to predict the crash rates and safe driving speeds at horizontal curves. Finally, a case study on 4.35 km road segment demonstrated that the proposed method could efficiently conduct network level analysis.

A novel laboratory experimental design is described that will investigate the processing of dust grains in astrophysical shocks. Dust is a ubiquitous ingredient in the interstellar medium(ISM) of galaxies; however, its evolutionary cycle is still poorly understood. especially shrouded in mystery is the efficiency of grain destruction by astrophysical shocks generated by expanding supernova remnants. While the evolution of these remnants is fairly well understood, the grain destruction efficiency in these shocks is largely unknown. The experiments described herein will fill this knowledge gap by studying the dust destruction efficiencies for shock velocities in the range ～10–30 km/s(μm/ns), at which most of the grain destruction and processing in the ISM takes place. The experiments focus on the study of grain–grain collisions by accelerating small(～1 μm) dust particles into a large(～5–10 μm diameter) population; this simulates the astrophysical system well in that the more numerous, small grains impact and collide with the large population. Facilities that combine the versatility of high-power optical lasers with the diagnostic capabilities of X-ray free-electron lasers, e.g., the Matter in Extreme conditions instrument at the SLAc National Accelerator Laboratory, provide an ideal laboratory environment to create and diagnose dust destruction by astrophysically relevant shocks at the micron scale.

MEASUREMENT OF PRIMarY PRODUcTION IN AN ENcLOSED WATER cOLUMN

A cEE (2.5 m by 16 m) has been used to study the budget of organic production by measuring the changes in POc/N, oxygen and 14cO, uptake through three-week period. 14c primary production measurements were conducted with 4-hours and 24-hours incubation periods, and with size fractionation. Different types and sizes of bottle effects were examined. Results showed that the oxygen method production was highest, followed by the 14cO2 uptake method, and POc gain showed the lowest. The value of PQ should be more than 1.7. The ratio of 4-hour incubation to 24-hour incubation was 2.42±0.22, indicating that net daily production is equal to 9.7±0.9 h of illuminated growth. Different types and sizes of bottles had little effect on primary production.

17.1. Effective Field Theories Quantum field theories provide the most precise computational tools for describing physics at the highest energies. One of their characteristic features is that they almost inevitably involve multiple length scales. When trying to determine the value of an observable, quantum field theory demands that all possible virtual states and hence all particles be included in the calculation. Since these particles have widely different masses, the final prediction is sensitive to many scales. This fact represents a formidable challenge from a practical point of view. No realistic quantum field theories can be solved exactly, so that one needs to resort to approximation schemes; these, however, are typically most straightforward when only a single scale is involved at a time.

In 1981 a magnetic and bathymetric survey was carried out over Explorer Seamount located approximately between 48°50′ and 49°30′N and 130°40′ and 131°30′W. During the cruise four pillow fragments were dredged from peaks in this area. Based on the observed ***, it was identified that the main peak of Explorer Seamount should be of the Bruhnes age while the magnetic high in the N W of study area would be Gauss. This would yield a spreading rate of about 2 cm per year for the Matuyama epoch. The results of intensities of remanence measured from the pillow fragments indicate that the ages are less than 106 years. Similarly the curie temperature is consistent with ages of around 106 years. An attempt was made to model the observed magnetic field using a series of uniformly magnetized NE-SW trending blocks of alternating polarity. Agreement between the model and observed results is satisfied. Oxidation ratios calculated from measured samples suggest that the main peak of Explorer Seamount is

Lipoprotein metabolism in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD）, an pathologies characterized by fatty accumulation in escalating health problem worldwide, covers a spectrum of hepatocytes in early stages, with potential progression to liver inflammation, fibrosis, and failure. A close, yet poorly understood link exists between NAFLD and dyslipidemia, a constellation of abnormalities in plasma lipoproteins including triglyceride-rich very low density lipoproteins. Apolipoproteins are a group of primarily liver-derived proteins found in serum lipoproteins; they not only play an extracellular role in lipid transport between vital organs through circulation, but also play an important intracellu- lar role in hepatic lipoprotein assembly and secretion. The liver functions as the central hub for lipoprotein metab- olism, as it dictates lipoprotein production and to a significant extent modulates lipoprotein clearance. Lipoprotein metabolism is an integral component of hepatocellular lipid homeostasis and is implicated in the pathogenesis, potential diagnosis, and treatment of NAFLD.
