Nicotinamide treatment of plants and plant cell cultures has been shown to promote defense and decrease levels of DNA *** the present study,we used RNA-seq technology to study overall changes in gene expression induced in roots of 3-month-old spruce(Picea abies)seedlings grown from nicotinamide-treated seeds to examine the molecular mechanisms underlying the defense *** 350 genes were identified as differentially expressed in roots after the seed *** response genes,including transcription factors MYB77 and LHY and two chitinase enzymes,were generally upregulated,whereas genes thought to be involved in epigenetic regulation such as DDM1,known to promote DNA methylation,were present at high frequency among the downregulated *** all samples,the expression of downregulated epigenetic-related genes was highly correlated with the nicotinamide treatment,indicating a common *** results support an earlier hypothesis regarding a potential role of nicotinamide as a defense-signal mediator.

This study investigated the association between depressive symptoms in elderly chinese men and the total testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone （DHEA）, DHEA sulphate （DHEAS）, oestradiol and sex hormone-binding globulin （SHBG） levels, and the free androgen index. cross-sectional data from 1147 community-dwelling elderly men, aged 65 and older, were used. Depressive symptoms were measured using the chinese Geriatric Depression Scale （GDS）. Total testosterone, free testosterone, DHEA, DHEAS, total oestradiol, the free androgen index and SHBG levels were assessed. DHEA was significantly associated with GDS score, and there was a trend towards DHEAS association, but this was not significant （p=-0. 110, P=0.015; p=-0.074, P=0.055）. However, no association was seen between depressive symptoms and total testosterone levels, free testosterone levels, oestradiol levels or SHBG levels. In terms of the presence of clinically relevant depressive symptoms, there were no statistically significant differences between patients in the lowest quartile of sex steroid hormone levels and those in other quartiles of sex steroid hormone levels. Similarly to Western studies, our study shows that DHEA and DHEAS levels are associated with depressive symptoms.

Sweden has witnessed an increase in the rates of sexual crimes including *** of who the offenders of these crimes are is therefore of importance for *** aimed to study characteristics of individuals convicted of rape,aggravated rape,attempted rape or attempted aggravated rape(abbreviated rape+),against a woman≥18years of age,in *** using information from the Swedish crime Register,offenders between 15 and 60years old convicted of rapeþbetween 2000 and 2015 were *** on substance use disorders,previous criminality and psychiatric disorders were retrieved from Swedish population-based registers,and Latent class Analysis(LcA)was used to identify classes of rapeþoffenders.A total of 3039 offenders were included in the analysis.A major-ity of them were immigrants(n=1800;59.2%)of which a majority(n=1451;47.7%)were born outside of *** LcA identified two classes:class A-low offending class(LOc),and class B—high offending class(HOc).While offenders in the LOc had low rates of previous criminality,psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders,those included in the HOc had high rates of previous criminality,psychiatric disorders and substance use *** HOc may be composed by more“traditional”criminals probably known by the police,the LOc may represent individuals not previously known by the *** two separated classes,as well as our finding in regard to a majority of the offenders being immi-grants,warrants further studies that take into account the contextual characteristics among these offenders.

Aerosol technology provides efficient methods for producing nanoparticles with well-controlled composition and size distribution. This review provides an overview of methods and results obtained by using aerosol technology for producing nanostruetures for a variety of applications in semiconductor physics and device technology. Examples are given from： production of metal and metal alloy particles： semiconductor nanoparticles; semiconductor nanowires, grown both in the aerosol phase and on substrates; physics studies based on individual aerosol-generated devices; and large area deviees based on aerosol particles.

Introduction: Tumour stage is the most important prognostic factor in non-small cell lung cancer (NScLc) and small cell lung cancer (ScLc). The aim of this study was to evaluate if female gender was a prognostic factor in different tumour stages in relation to histology and given therapy. Methods: From 1989-2008, 1497 patients in eastern Scania, in southern Sweden with 202,000 inhabitants, were referred and prospectively registered. Tumour stage, performance status, lung cancer type and primary therapy were registered. Results: In NScLc, female patients in stages 1 and 2 who were treated with surgery had a better 5-year survival rate (79.4%), compared to males (60.6%;p = 0.0004). Female patients in stage 3 with active therapy (surgery and/or radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy) had a better 5-year survival than males (20.6% vs. 10.5%, respectively, p = 0.0006). Female patients with adenocarcinoma were favourable in stages 1-3. In stage 4, there was no survival difference between females and males. In ScLc, females with limited disease (LD) and active therapy (chemotherapy ±?radiotherapy ± surgery) had a higher 5-year survival rate (28%) than males (5.6%);p = 0.001. Females with extensive disease (ED) and active therapy (chemotherapy ± radiotherapy) had a better 5-year survival (3.9%) compared to males (0.7%);p = 0.023. In multivariate analyses, patient performance status at diagnosis was also an independent prognostic factor in all tumour stages of lung cancer. conclusions: This population-based study corroborates a female survival advantage in NScLc stages 1-3, but not in metastatic stage 4, and this is also demonstrated for the adenocarcinoma subgroup. The study also confirms better prognosis in females with ScLc in both LD and ED. The study also demonstrates the importance of patient performance status as a prognostic factor in all stages of lung cancer.

AIM To compare gut bacterial diversity and amount of Enterobacteriaceae in colonic mucosa between patients with and without diverticular disease(DD).METHODS Patients in a stable clinical condition with planned elective colonoscopy were included. Blood samples and colon mucosa biopsies were collected at the colonoscopy. Study questionnaires including questions about gastrointestinal symptoms were completed by the patients and physicians. DNA from mucosa samples was isolated and the amount of Enterobacteriaceae was estimated using PcR assay. Terminal restriction frag mentlength polymorphism was applied to assess microbial diversity. Diversity was estimated by calculations of richness(number of terminal restriction fragments) and Shannon-Wiener and Simpson's indices. RESULTS A total of 51 patients were included, 16 patients with DD [68(62-76) years] and 35 controls [62(40-74) years] without any diverticula. Patients with DD had significantly higher levels of Enterobacteriaceae than those without DD(P = 0.043), and there was an inverse relationship between the amount of Enterobacteriaceae and the Simpson's index(rs =-0.361, P = 0.033) and the Shannon-Wiener index(rs =-0.299, P = 0.081). The Simpson's index(P = 0.383), Shannon-Wiener index(P = 0.401) or number of restrictions fragments(P = 0.776) did not differ between DD and controls. The majority of patients experienced gastrointestinal symptoms, and 22 patients(43.1%) fulfilled the criteria for irritable bowel syndrome, with no difference between the groups(P = 0.212). Demography, socioeconomic status, lifestyle habits, inflammatory biomarkers, or symptoms were not related to the amount of Enterobacteriaceae or bacterial diversity. cONcLUSION Patients with DD had higher amount of Enterobacteriaceae in the colon mucosa compared to patients without diverticula.
