Agriculture in southeastern Oregon and southwestern Idaho known collectively as the Treasure Valley has depended on furrow irrigation using heavy inputs of water and nitrogen （N） fertilizer. crop rotations include onion, corn, wheat, sugar beet, potato, bean, and other crops. By 1986 groundwater had become contaminated with nitrate and residues of the herbicide chlorthal-dimethyl （dcPA）; an official groundwater management area was established by the Oregon department of Environmental Quality along with an action plan and well monitoring network. The action plan allowed for a trial period to see whether voluntary changes would improve trends. Researchers, producers, and agencies cooperated to develop production options that had the possibility of being both environmentally protective and cost effective. Options were tested to improve irrigation practices, increase N fertilizer use efficiency on several rotation crops, and find a cost effective replacement for dcPA. Research demonstrated the opportunity for increased productivity through both irrigation scheduling and the adoption of drip and sprinkler systems. Fertilizer research demonstrated that smaller, more frequent N applications were more efficient than a single large application. Effective, lower cost herbicides replaced dcPA. Research results were effectively delivered through many means and voluntarily adopted. Both groundwater nitrate and dcPA residues are declining. Productivity has increased.

An analytical solution to the three-dimensional telegraph equation is presented. This equation has recently received some attention but so far the treatment has been one-dimensional. By using the structural similarity to the Klein-gordon equation, the telegraph equation can be solved in closed form. Illustrative examples are used to discuss the qualitative differences from the diffusion solution. A comparison with a numerical test-particle simulation reveals that some features of an intensity profile can be better explained using the telegraph approach.

The pregnane X receptor(PXR) plays an important and diverse role in mediating xenobiotic induction of drug-metabolizing enzymes and *** protein isoforms of PXR exist,and they have differential transcriptional activity upon target genes; transcript variants 3(PXR3) and 4(PXR4) do not induce target gene expression,whereas transcript variants 1(PXR1) and 2(PXR2) respond to agonist by activating target gene *** protein variants also display differences in protein–protein interactions; PXR1 interacts with p53,whereas PXR3 does ***,the transcript variants of PXR that encode these protein isoforms are differentially regulated by methylation and deletions in the respective promoters of the variants,and their expression differs in various human cancers and also in cancerous tissue compared to adjacent normal ***1 and PXR4 m RNA are downregulated by methylation in cancerous tissue and have divergent effects on cellular proliferation when ectopically *** detailed and comparative mechanistic studies are required to predict the effect of PXR transcript variant expression on carcinogenesis,therapeutic response,and the development of toxicity.

Introduction Nasopharyngeal carcinoma （NPc） is an epithelial-originated malignancy occuning with a high incidence in Southeast Asia, in particulat, in southern china. Iron-Mediated Oxidative dNA damage detected by Fluorometric Analysis of dNA Unwinding in Isolated Rat Liver Nuclei

Studies were performed to determine the extent of nuclear dNA degradation induced by iron, iron-ascorbate, or iron-bleomycin under aerobic conditions in a model system using isolated rat liver nuclei. The effects of five antioxidants (catalase, superoxide dismutase, dimethyl sulfoxide, glutathione and diallyl sulfide) on this oxidative nuclear damage were also investigated. At the 0.05 level for statistical significance, iron induced concentration-dependent dNA degradation, and this effect was enhanced by ascorbate and bleomycin. The antioxidants catalase, dimethyl sulfoxide, and diallyl sulfide significantly reduced the iron-ascorbate-induced dNA damage, whereas superoxide dismutase and dimethyl sulfoxide significantly reduced iron-bleomycin-induced damage. glutathione significantly increased the iron-bleomycin-induced dNA damage. These results suggest that the reactive oxygen species generated by iron, iron-ascorbate, and iron-bleomycin are responsible for the dNA strand breaks in isolated rat liver nuclei.

Spatial prediction of any geographic phenomenon can be an intractable *** sparse and uncertain spatial events related to many influencing factors necessitates the integration of multiple data *** present an innovative approach that combines data in a discrete global grid System(dggS)and uses machine learning for analysis.A dggS provides a structured input for multiple types of spatial data,consistent over multiple *** data framework facilitates the training of an Artificial Neural Network(ANN)to map and predict a *** lag regression models(SLRM)are used to evaluate and rank the outputs of the *** our case study,we predict hate crimes in the *** crimes get attention from mass media and the scientific community,but data on such events is *** trained the ANN with data ingested in the dggS based on a 50%sample of hate crimes as identified by the Southern Poverty Law center(SPLc).Our spatial prediction is up to 78%accurate and verified at the state level against the independent FBI hate crime statistics with a fit of 80%.The derived risk maps are a guide to action for policy makers and law enforcement.

Nanowires with inhomogeneous heterostructures such as polytypes and periodic twin boundaries are interesting due to their potential use as components for optical, electrical, and thermophysical applications. Additionally, the incorporation of metal impurities in semiconductor nanowires could substantially alter their electronic and optical properties. In this highlight article, we review our recent progress and understanding in the deliberate induction of imperfections, in terms of both twin boundaries and additional impurities in germanium nanowires for new/enhanced functionalities. The role of catalysts and catalyst-nanowire interfaces for the growth of engineered nanowires via a three-phase paradigm is explored. Three-phase bottom-up growth is a feasible way to incorporate and engineer imperfections such as crystal defects and impurities in semiconductor nanowires via catalyst and/or interfacial manipulation. ＂Epitaxial defect transfer＂ process and catalyst-nanowire interfacial engineering are employed to induce twin defects parallel and perpendicular to the nanowire growth axis. By inducing and manipulating twin boundaries in the metal catalysts, twin formation and density are controlled in ge nanowires. The formation of ge polytypes is also observed in nanowires for the growth of highly dense lateral twin boundaries. Additionally, metal impurity in the form of Sn is injected and engineered via third-party metal catalysts resulting in above-equilibrium incorporation of Sn adatoms in ge nanowires. Sn impurities are precipitated into ge bi-layers during ge nanowire growth, where the impurity Sn atoms become trapped with the deposition of successive layers, thus giving an extraordinary Sn content （〉6 at.%） in ge nanowires. A larger amount of Sn impingement （〉9 at.%） is further encouraged by utilizing the eutectic solubility of Sn in ge along with impurity trapping.
