Mixed-conducting ceramic–carbonate membranes exhibiting high cO2/O2 permeation flux and stability at high temperatures

This investigation demonstrates the feasibility to fabricate high quality ceramic–carbonate membranes based on mixed-conducting ***,it is reported the simultaneous cO2/O2 permeation and stability properties of membranes constituted by a combination of ceramic and carbonate phases,wherein the microstructure of the ceramic part is composed,in turn,of a mixture of fluorite and perovskite *** ceramics showed ionic and electronic conduction,and at the operation temperature,the carbonate phase of the membranes is in liquid state,which allows the transport of cO32-and O2–species via different *** fabricate the membranes,the ceramic powders were uniaxially pressed in a disk ***,an incipient sintering treatment was carried out in such a way that a highly porous ceramic was ***,the piece is densified by the infiltration of molten *** of the membranes was accomplished by SEM,XRD,and gas permeation techniques among *** and chemical stability under an atmosphere rich in cO2 was ***2/O2 permeation and long-term stability measurements were conducted between 850 and 940℃.The best permeation–separation performance of membranes of about 1 mm thickness,showed a maximum permeance flux of about 4.46×10^–7 mol·m^–2·s^–1·Pa^–1 for cO2 and 2.18×10^–7 mol·m^–2·s^–1·Pa^–1 for O2 at 940℃.Membranes exhibited separation factor values of 150–991 and 49–511 for cO2/N2 and O2/N2 respectively in the studied temperature *** long-term stability test showed certain microstructural changes in the membranes,no significant detriment on the permeation properties was observed along 100 h of continuous operation.

Lysosomal acid lipase(LAL) deficiency is an underrecognized lysosomal disease caused by deficient enzymatic activity of *** this report we describe two affected female Mexican siblings with early hepatic *** two months of age,the first sibling presented with alternating episodes of diarrhea and constipation,and later with hepatomegaly,elevated transaminases,high levels of total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,and low levels of highdensity *** hypertension and grade 2 esophageal varices were detected at four years of *** second sibling presented with hepatomegaly,elevated transaminases and mildly elevated lowdensity lipoprotein and low high-density lipoprotein at six months of *** activity was deficient in both *** of LIPA revealed two previously unreported heterozygous mutations in exon 4:c.253c>A and c.294c>*** cases highlight the clinical continuum between the so-called Wolman disease and cholesteryl ester storage disease,and underscore that LAL deficiency represents a single disease with a degree of clinical heterogeneity.

Objective:To evaluate 11 cuban native Bacillus(B.)thuringiensis isolates in order to select one with the best larvicidal activity against Aedes(Ae.)aegypti and low ***:The cry and cyt genes of the isolates(A21,A51,L95,L910,M29,R84,R85,R87,R89,U81 and X48)were amplified by *** influence of organic matter and Nacl on the larvicidal activity was tested by *** was assayed on peritoneal macrophages of BALB/c ***:The cyt1(Aa,Ab,Ba),cyt2,cry4aA,cry4Ba,cry11(Aa,Ba,Bb)and cry10 genes were identified in all native cuban *** larvicidal activity(Lc_(90))of seven isolates was affected by the presence of organic matter in the water,while A21,A51,L910,R84,U81 and X48 had better Lc_(50),Lc_(90),Lc_(95) than the 266/29-Ⅶ-98 control *** Lc_(50) of two isolates was affected by the presence of Nacl and A21,A51,R85 isolate had better larvicidal activity than the 266/29-Ⅶ-98 control *** terms of toxicity against macrophages,the extracts of nine isolates were less cytotoxic than the control ***:Native isolate A21 had the main virulence factors against *** larvae,displayed a good larvicidal activity in presence of different factors related with *** breeding sites,and had low citotoxicity against *** results can contribute to the improvement of existing biological control strategies and the development of new biolarvicides.

competition for natural resources will affect our ability to produce food. As population grows so does food demand, which leads to enormous pressure on the supply system. Despite the threat that climate change represents, is possible to produce more food as is evidenced, for example, the worldwide increases in the average yield per year of corn, rice wheat, and soybean. However, stresses such as temperature may have a negative impact on productivity. World grain yields decrease for each degree of increase in minimum global temperature. In addition, temperature increase induces other events such as the incidence of pests and diseases and damage to germplasm. This work focuses on the perspective of food production in the world, addressed from five fundamental aspects: 2) Temperature in crop yield. 3) Stress factors cause financial losses. 4) Water use in Agriculture. 5) The urge to increase plant productivity against climate change, and finally 6) Plant diversity and conservation.

Fast-track program in laparoscopic liver surgery:Theory or fact?

AIM:To analyze our results after the introduction of a fast-track(FT) program after laparoscopic liver surgery in our Hepatobiliarypancreatic ***:All patients(43) undergoing laparoscopic liver surgery between March 2004 and March 2010 were included and divided into two consecutive groups:control group(cG) from March 2004 until December 2006 with traditional perioperative cares(17 patients) and fast-track group(FTG) from January 2007 until March 2010 with FT program cares(26 patients).Primary endpoint was the influence of the program on the postoperative stay,the amount of re-admissions,morbidity and *** we considered duration of surgery,use of drains,conversion to open surgery,intensive cares needs and ***:Both groups were homogeneous in age and *** differences in technique,time of surgery or conversion to open surgery were found,but more malignant diseases were operated in the FTG,and then transfusions were higher in *** and morbidity were similar in both groups,without *** stay was similar,with a median of 3 for cG vs 2.5 for ***,the 80.8% of patients from FTG left the hospital within the first 3 d after surgery(58.8% for cG).cONcLUSION:The introduction of a FT program after laparoscopic liver surgery improves the recovery of patients without increasing complications or re-admissions,which leads to a reduction of the stay and costs.

Some intensive dairy operations in Mexico are contributing to large,negative environmental impacts,especially in regions dominated by high concentrations of *** manure inputs plus additional nitrogen(N)fertilizer has,in some cases,resulted in background nitrate–nitrogen(NO3–N)levels in irrigation water that are so high,it is not safe for human *** reason is that commercial farmers in this region are currently not using any method to rapidly calculate N budgets based on their practices,N inputs and/or crop N *** Nitrogen Index,a quick tool that can be used to conduct an assessment within a few minutes,was developed for Mexico,but needed further testing under commercial field *** conducted studies in 2010 and 2011 and collected soil and crop information from several commercial farming operations to test the *** index accurately assessed(Po0.0001)residual soil nitrate after harvesting corn(Zea mays L.)and oats(Avena sativa L.);and also accurately assessed the N uptake of these crops(Po0.01).The Mexico N Index is a tool that can be used to quickly conduct N balances,show when N is being over-applied,and help reduce over-application,thus reducing N losses to the environment and improving management of dairy forage systems in Mexico.

The northwest region of the Iberian Peninsula is home to a unique ecosystem of bogs,which are particularly sensitive to projected climate cha *** this context,the rate of carbon(c)accumulation in chao de Veiga *** intact raised bog,was *** in the accumulation rate over the past10 millennia were determined in a peat core of 847 cm in depth,with a high mean rate of peat growth(11 yr cm^-1,0.09 cm yr^-1).An age-depth model was generated from 22 14c dates and fallout ***,stratigraphical and physico-chemical data confirmed the existence of a single cycle of peat formation throughout the Holocene and the formation of ombrotrophic peat 9500 years *** total mean c content was 50.2%,and over 10 millennia 583 kg c m^-2 accumulated at a mean rate of 35.3 g c m^-2 yr^-1,with a long-term(apparent)rate of carbon accumulation in the catotelm of59.9 g c m^-2 yr^-*** values are much higher than reported for other Iberian peatlands and are amongst the highest documented for peatlands in the northern *** dynamics of c accumulation and other measured parameters reveals important variations throughout the *** could be associated with the main climatic events described in the northern hemisphere and are highly consistent with models established for northern *** chao de Veiga Mol raised bog is unique and of great potential value for carrying out high resolution palaeoenvironmental studies,especially in relation to regional and Iocal modulations in southern Europe.

Epidemiological assessment of intestinal parasitic infections in dogs at animal shelter in Veracruz,Mexico

Objective:To determine the prevalence of infection with intestinal parasites in 101 dogs in an animal shelter in ***,and investigate whether any general characteristics of the dogs were associated with ***:Parasitologiesl examination of fecal samples from the dogs was performed by means of centrifuge-flotation using Sheather's sucrose and zinc sulfate flotation *** addition,hematocrit was determined in each canine blood ***:Intestinal parasites were found in 99(98.0%) of the 101 dogs *** five different intestinal parasites were identified:Ancylostoma caninum in 89 dogs(88.1%).Giardia canis in 46(45.5%).Unciiuiria stenocephalia in 43(42.6%).Trichuris vulpis in 19(18.8%)and Strongyloides canis in 16(15.8%).Multivariate analysis showed:I) Giardia infection was associated with young age and mixed breed;2) Ancylostoma was associated with young age and no rabies vaccination:and 3) Strongyloides was associated with no rabies *** and Trichuris infections were not associated with the variables ***:A high prevalence of intestinal parasites was found in the dogs *** suggests that the environment is highly contaminated with intestinal *** and therapeutic measures should be taken against infection with intestinal parasites in dogs in this region.

Latin-America (LATAM) is the second region in gastric cancer incidence;gastric adenocarcinoma (GA) represents 95% of all cases. We provide a mutational landscape of GA highlighting a) germline pathogenic variants associated with hereditary GA, b) germline risk variants associated with sporadic GA, and c) somatic variants present in sporadic GA in LATAM, and analyze how this landscape can be applied for precision medicine. We found that Brazil, chile, colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela are the countries with more published studies from LATAM explicitly related to GA. Our analysis displayed that different germline pathogenic variants for the cDH1 gene have been identified for hereditary GA in Brazilian, chilean, colombian, and Mexican populations. An increased risk of developing somatic GA is associated with the following germline risk variants: IL-4, IL-8, TNF-α, PTGS2, NFKB1, RAF1, KRAS and MAPK1 in Brazilian;IL-10 in chilean;IL-10 in colombian;EGFR and ERRB2 in Mexican, TcF7L2 and chr8q24 in Venezuelan population. The path from mutational landscape to precision medicine requires four development levels: 1) Data compilation, 2) Data analysis and integration, 3) Development and approval of clinical approaches, and 4) Population benefits. Generating local genomic information is the initial padlock to overcome to generate and apply precision medicine.
