Segregated Distribution of Liriope tetraphylla, Aglaura hemistoma and Nausithoe punc.a.a (cnidaria) in the Southern Gulf of Mexico

In order to study the segregated distribution of the three most abundant jellyfish species in the southern Gulf of Mexico, a total of 85 stations were sampled during an oc.a.ographic cruise from 19 May to 18 June 2006. Trawling took place from surface to a maximum depth of 200 m, using a Bongo net with a 61 cm mouth diameter and 333 and 500 μm mesh sizes. Temperature and salinity were recorded. Samples were preserved in 4% formalin, neutralized with sodium borate, and c.a.ged to 70% ethylic.a.cohol after 24 hours for conservation. The jellyfish data were standardized to 100 mp>3p> of filtered water. A total of 10,610 jellyfish were collected from the 333 μm mesh size net, of which eight species represented 88.49% of the total density: Aglaura hemistoma, Liriope tetraphylla, Nausithoe punc.a.a, clytia hemisphaerica, persa incolorata, Obelia spp., clytia folleata and Eutima gracilis. The former three species are the subject of this study. The results obtained indicate that the high density areas of these three species have a segregated distribution. Segregation values (White’s index) recorded between pairs of specie were very high: L. tetraphylla - A. hemistoma, 0.88;L. tetraphylla - N. punc.a.a, 0.86 and A. hemistoma - N. punc.a.a, 0.84. The spatial distribution of the high density areas of these species fits well with the three hydrodynamically different areas: A. hemistoma in campeche Bank, L. tetraphylla on the campeche and Tabasco shelves and N. punc.a.a in campeche Bay. This spatial distribution pattern corresponds to their main habitat and reproductive habits of the species, as well as the influence of the hydrodynamics that dominate each area.

can Improve Iron Biofortification Antioxidant Response,Yield and Nutritional Quality in Green Bean?

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of iron biofortification on antioxidant response, yield and nutritional qualityof green bean (phaseolus vulgaris L.) under greenhouse conditions. Fe was applied using two forms (FeSO4 and Fe-EDDHA) at four doses of application (0, 25, 50 and 100 μm) added under a hydroponic system, and were tested over a period of 40 days. The Fe content was assessed in seeds, as well as the activity of antioxidant enzymes, production of H2O2, yield and nutritional quality. The results being obtained indicated that the accumulation of Fe in bean seeds enhanced with the application of Fe-EDDHA at the dose of 25 μm. This demonstrated that low Fe application dose was enough to increase Fe levels in seeds of common bean. In addition, Fe-EDDHA application form at 50 μmol was the best treatment to improve crop yield. Respect to antioxidant system, chelated form of Fe (Fe-EDDHA) was more effective in the activation of antioxidant enzymes (cAT, SOD and GSH-pX), and a lower content of H2O2 in green bean seeds. Finally, to raise the Fe concentration in bean under biofortification program was a promising strategy in cropping systems in order to increase the ingestion of iron and antioxidant capacity in the general population and provided the benefits that this element offered in human health.

power Transfer of pV Inverter from Dc to Ac Voltage Source

This paper presents a simple approach of a topology already known in the literature, applied in active power transfer from direct current source to any alternating current voltage source, whether the utility power or a voltage inverter that is forming an isolated Ac grid. The photovoltaic inverter works as current controlled voltage source inverter that provides a sinusoidal current to the Ac grid. The inverter is insulated from the grid by a transformer. The system is discussed and modeled. Simulation results of this application are presented and experimental results validate this topology.

Acute post-Activation potentiation Effects of Heavy High-pulls on clean performance

Aim The concept of post-activation potentiation(pAp)is still novel from a training perspective and lacks breadth relative to weightlifting *** The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of a conditioning activity(clean high pulls)on the performance of a main activity(clean)after the conditioning *** Eleven volunteers who engaged in weightlifting(Male=5,Female=6)participated in two different testing ses-sions(experimental ***).Baseline measurements were taken following the *** testing condition was performed and additional measurements were taken at 30 s,2 min,4 min,6 min,8 min,10 min,and 12 min into recovery.A linear position transducer was used to collect peak power,peak velocity,and displacement of the barbell during the *** 2×8 repeated measures ANOVAs were used to analyze the data along with a paired samples t test between baseline and"best"*** There was no interaction or main effect for condition(p>0.05).However,there was a significant main effect for time(pcantly(ppeak power:experimental=1354.76 ±521.24 W *** 1216.03 ±492.30 W;peak velocity:experimental=2.66 ±0.44 m/s *** 2.50 ±0.44 m/s;displacement:experimental=111.07 ± 12.09 cm *** 107.01 ± 11.32 cm).conclusions The findings of this study are in partial agreement with previous literature where the warm-up was probably enough to elicit ***,recommendations for future studies could include utilizing a more elite population and to ensure all potential participants can squat at least 2 x their body weight.

comparison of 3 M^TM petrifilm^TM Aerobic count plates with pour plates for Determination of Aerobic plate counts in Fermented chile Mash

Fermented chile pepper mash is a major food product in New Mexico. There are few reports on the fermentation process or on methods to monitor it, In the current study we examined a pour plate procedure with an overlay using plate count agar and 3 MTM petrifilmTM Aerobic count （Ac） plates for determination of total aerobic bacterial counts during the fermentation of chile mash. Fifty chile mash samples were obtained directly from commerc.a. fermentation vats and examined within 2 h of collection. Serial dilutions of the chile mash were prepared in Butterfield＇s phosphate Buffer. 1 mL portions of the diluted samples were aliquoted in duplicate onto the Ac plates and into empty petri dishes. plate count agar was poured and once the plates had solidified, they were overlaid with about 10 mL of pcA to minimize spreaders. plates were incubated at 30 ℃ for 48 h and enumerated. paired difference tests were conducted on log transformed data to compare the results of the two plating procedures. For commerc.a. chile mash samples, we did not show any significant differences between the Ac plate counts and the pour plate counts （α = 0.05）, 3 MTM petrifilmTM Ac plates are a good alternative to pour plates for the determination of the total aerobic counts in fermented chile mashes.

为提高碳材料对聚硫化物的吸附能力,将MnO_(2)原位化学沉积于活性碳纤维炭毡(AcFF)的碳纤维表面,得到了聚硫化物吸附强化的多孔导电材料(MnO_(2)@AcFF)。将其作为中间层设置于隔膜和硫电极之间,有效控制了高载量硫电极的聚硫离子穿梭,提高了活性物质利用率和库伦效率,降低了电极极化和电化学反应阻抗,提高了电极循环稳定性,避免了锂硫电池的突然失效。在2 mA/cm^(2)的电流密度下,载硫量为15 mg/cm^(2)的硫电极经过350次充放电循环仍保有430 mA·h/g的比容量。提高硫电极载硫量虽然使电极的循环稳定性下降,但载量为20 mg/cm^(2)和30 mg/cm^(2)的硫电极0.1 c下经过100次循环,仍分别保有736 mA·h/g和446 mA·h/g的比容量,比容量保持率为65%,而且面积比容量和面积比能量也能分别保持64%和42%,高于当前锂离子电池的面积比容量和面积比能量。

Traditional mining activities are usually correlated with high levels of soil pollution, which is a major environmental concern. Extensive mining activities have taken place in the San Joaquin region in the State of Querétaro, México resulting in high levels of mercury soil pollution (up to 1532 ± 300 mg/kg). We isolated mercury-resistant fungal strains from the San Joaquin region soils and identified them through morphologic c.a.acteristics and ITS rDNA region sequence analysis. We determined that fungi isolated belong to the genus Trichoderma. All the isolates selected showed the ability to catalyze the volatilization of Hg. For air sampling, an active sampling device was constructed and using acid KMnO4 as an absorbent, the concentration of mercury in solution was determined through the cold vapor atomic.a.sorption method. The results show mercury volatilization from the fungal species assay, with a maximum of 213.04 ± 32.6 μg/m3 while mycelium accumulation ranged from less than 17.5 ± 2.9 to 20.0 ± 3.4 μg/g. The fungal isolates were also evaluated for their ability to reduce mercury uptake in Arabidopsis thaliana. These observations suggest the utility of Trichoderma for the mobilization of mercury in those contaminated soils.

Antibacterial activity of Myrc.a.ia dubia(camu camu) against Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus sanguinis

Objective:To evaluate the antibacterial and cytotoxic effect of Myrc.a.ia dubia(camu camu)(***) methanol extract,against Streptococcus mutans(ATcc 25175)(***) and Streptococcus sanguinis(ATcc 10556)(***).Methods:Two methanol extracts of *** were prepared in vitro,from the seeds and *** independent tests were prepared for each type of extract,using 0.12% chlorhexidine solution as positive *** diffusion test was used by preparing wells with the experimental solutions cultivated in anaerobic conditions for 48 h at ***,the minimum inhibitory concentration and the cytotoxic effect over MDcK cell line was ***:A higher antibacterial effect was observed with the methanol seed extract with an inhibitory halo of(21.36 ± 6.35) mm and(19.21 ± 5.18) mm against *** and ***,*** methanol extract of the pulp had an effect of(16.20 ± 2.08)mm and(19.34 ± 2.90) mm,*** minimum inhibitory concentration of the pulp extract was 62.5 mg/mL for both strains,whereas for the seed antibacterial activity was observed even at low *** cc50 of the seeds extract was at a higher concentration than 800 mg/mL and 524.37 mg/mL for the pulp ***:The experimental findings demonstrated the antibacterial effect of the methanol extract of *** against *** and *** extracts were not cytotoxic.a. high concentrations.

Use of δ^(18)O, δ^(13)c.a.d NO_(3)^(-) to identify hydrogeochemical processes related to contamination in an aquifer located in central Mexico

In this work,an isotopic.a.alysis of δ^(18)O,δ^(13)c.a.d NO_(3)^(-) concentrations was carried out to identify the origin and the processes related to the contamination of an aquifer located in the state of Guanajuato,*** research identified the possible sources of δ^(13)c in *** groundwater flow,cO_(2) participates in different hydrogeochemical reactions in which the dissolution of carbonates or biochemical processes related to biodegradation stand *** data of δ^(13)c,δ^(18)O,and the hydrogeochemical behavior of NO_(3)^(-) and HcO_(3)^(-) in water,in addition to isotopic data and the chemical composition of limestones in the study area,were determined to establish the isotopic signature and the processes undergone by the *** isotopic signature of rock and water samples indicated that metamorphic limestones contributed with carbon dioxide to deep groundwater,while in the upper aquifer,bacterial metabolic reactions during nitrification–denitrification could modify the isotopic signature of δ^(13)c in some wells,although atmospheric contribution also plays a *** modification of the carbon isotopic component is related to the precipitation of calcite in specific regions of the study area,input of atmospheric cO_(2),and soil(*** possible participation of c4-type plants in the assimilation-release of carbon).This process is not confirmed or completely ruled out in this study since agriculture is excessively developed throughout the *** joint interpretation of isotopic values and the hydrogeochemical behavior of major and conservative elements help in identifying possible pollution processes in which different carbon sources are related.

The body mass index (BMI) as a public health tool to predict metabolic syndrome

Objective: To analyze the body mass index (BMI) as an indicator of metabolic.a.terations, including the metabolic syndrome (MetS), at both individual level and public health level. Method: We recruited 3683 undergraduate students (17 - 24 years old) from México city identifying metabolic.a.terations, including the MetS, and comparing its prevalence by BMI ranges. We applied a sensitivity analysis to define BMI optimal cut-off point values. Results: We found 14.6% of MetS prevalence with a BMI average of 24.2%, and 34.5% of overweight prevalence (BMI ≥ 25). A BMI cut-off point value of 22.5 is suggested as an upper limit of a normal weight condition, only for public health purpose;while at individual level the BMI cut-off point of 25 was corroborated as the upper limit for a normal weight condition. A public health tool to estimate the MetS prevalence based on BMI percentages is proposed, and a study case is presented. conclusion: BMI fails predicting at individual level both, healthy condition or metabolic.a.terations, when values are lower than 25. At population level, the BMI is a valuable public health tool to estimate MetS prevalence: based on the prevalence of MetS by BMI ranges of a sample of the population.
