Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) are widely grown in cameroon and play a key role in the fight against food insecurity, malnutrition and poverty. However, its cultivation encounters problems due to abiotic.a.d biotic stresses, which leads to the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, which cause significant damage to the environment and human health due to the presence of synthetics residues in the seeds, pods and in the leaves that are eaten. Promoting the use of natural products is becoming a necessity for organic.a.d eco-responsible agriculture that limits contamination problems and improves people’s purc.a.ing power. This study aims to assess the effect of biostimulants based on natural products on the growth and nutritional value of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Bean seedlings from white variety (MEX-142) and red variety (DOR-701) were treated every seven days in the field from their pre-emergence, emergence and growth to their maturation under a randomized block experimental design. Six treatments and three repetitions with the biostimulants based on natural products and controls were thus performed and the agromorphological parameters were measured. After 120 days, the contents of growth biomarkers and defense-related enzymes were evaluated in leaves, while the contents of macromolecules, minerals and antinutrients were evaluated in seeds. These biostimulants significantly increased (P P cluding oxalates, phytates, tannins and saponins in seeds compared to controls (T+ and T−). Treatment with biostimulants, in particular BS4, improves the performance of bean plants in the field as well as the biofortification of seeds regardless of the variety.

Plant Biodiversity and Structure of Robusta coffee (coffea canephora var. robusta) Agroforests in cameroon

Agroforests are man-made ecosystems in which crops are assoc.a.ed with a main perennial species like Robusta coffee Agroforests (RcAs), which is counted among the main modes of perennial crops production in cameroon. despite the rich ecosystem services provided, the diversity of Assoc.a.ed Species (AS) found in these RcAs and the structure of the landscapes they form remain little known in cameroon. The current study aimed to inventory AS and c.a.acterize the structure of RcAs in four sites (Ayos, Malantouen, Melong and Nkongsamba) belonging to three robusta coffee production basins in cameroon. A systematic inventory with dendrometric measurements of the wood AS and coffee trees was carried out on 120 one-hec.a.e plot unit, i.e. 30 plots per site. The results showed that 102 AS belonging to 83 genera and 41 families were identified in these RcAs. The RcAs of Ayos in the dense rainforest zone with bimodal rainfall pattern were the most diverse with 71 species, followed by those of Melong and Nkongsamba with respectively 39 and 33 species respectively in the dense rainforest zone with monomodal rainfall pattern, and Malantouen with 33 species in the high savannahs of the west. Structurally, average coffee tree and AS densities founded ranged from 1208 - 1456 plants/ha and 71 - 214 stems/ha and those of basal area from 7.29 - 17.40 m2/ha for coffee trees and 7.97 - 16.14 m2/ha for AS in function of site. Basis on the vertical stratification, the proportion of the 3 - 6 m stratum, which is mainly represented by introduced AS, varied from 38% - 62% depending on the site. The results of this study showed that RcAs contribute to the conservation of plant biodiversity, given the specific richness identified in these ecosystems.

The objective of this work is to dry the mushrooms to evaluate the impact of drying on them. The drying of mushrooms in the oven, in the solar dryer and in the microwave indicated that for Termitomyces sp. the total polyphenol contents were 15.20 mgEAG/gMs for the microwave drying (280 W), 13.61 mgEAG/gMs for the oven drying (60°c), and 9.81 mgEAG/gMs for the solar dryer drying (40°c). For Pleurotus sp., the contents obtained were 13.79 mgEAG/gMs for microwave drying (280 W), 8.36 mgEAG/gMs for oven drying (60°c) and 8.98 mgEAG/gMs for solar drying (40°c). Regarding flavonoids, for Termitomyces sp., this revealed 0.5797 mgEca/gMs for microwave drying (280 W), 0.729 mgEca/gMs for oven drying (60°c) and 0.5671 mgEca/gMs for solar drying (40°c). The flavonoid contents for Pleurotus sp. gave 0.842 mgEca/gMs for microwave drying (280 W), 1.06 mgEca/gMs for oven drying (60°c) and, 0.425 mgEca/gMs for solar drying (40°c). For Termitomyces sp., the levels of free radical scavenging activity varied from 13.02 mg/mL for microwave drying, 25.08 mg/mL for oven drying, and 22.25 mg/mL for solar drying;while for Pleurotus sp., 15.96 mg/mL for microwave drying, 39.90 mg/mL for oven drying, and 31.60 mg/mL for solar drying.

Formulation of Biofungicides from cymbopogon citratus and Tithonia diversifolia: Evaluating Its Antimicrobial Activities against Pythium myriotylum, the causal Agent of Root Rot of Xanthosoma sagittifolium (L.) Schott

Three fungicide formulations, namely M1, M2 and M3, were prepared from sodium bicarbonate, citronella essential oil and sunflower slurry. The stability of M1, M2 and M3 formulations was determined based on pH, temperature, order of incorporation of the inputs and storage time. The most stable formulations were used for antagonistic tests on Pythium myriotylum. The Minimum Inhibitory concentration (MIc) was used for the greenhouse tests and the mode of action was determined in vitro. The study showed that the order of incorporation of the inputs “Essential Oil-Tween 80-Bicarbonate-Slurry” (EO-T80-B-S) promotes stability. M1 and M2 are stable at 4°c, 25°c, 37°c.a.d 40°c temperatures and have a pH of 7 and 8 respectively. The Minimum Inhibitory concentration of M1 and M2 is 1% on P. myriotylum. M1 and M2 act on Pythium by membrane lysis, inhibiting proton pumps and inhibiting protein synthesis. The formulations M1 and M2 reduce the incidence of root rot disease in cocoyam plants growth in the greenhouse. M1 and M2 are potential candidates for improvement of cocoyam seedlings production in cameroon.

The response to the cOVID-19 pandemic has compelled Institut Pasteur de cote d’Ivoire (IPcI) to set up strategies for an outstanding mobilisation of human resources to fight against it. Among these strategies, we can quote the screening of people requesting cOVID-19 tests at IPcI for emergency travel after the lifting of flight restrictions. Newly recruited Young researchers at IPcI, as well as Ph.D. students and trainees, were mobilised. This document describes firstly, the benefits, knowledge acquired, and difficulties encountered, and secondly, recommendations to be followed for a future large-scale epidemic. This study helped to outline some achievements, such as upgrading the talents of young researchers, strong collaboration between young researchers from different fields, and between IPcI and other institutions. The lessons learned are numerous, including mood and stress management. The difficulties encountered during this study are mainly misunderstandings, increased workload, and insufficient awareness of cOVID-19 travel test procedures. These results are relevant for a possible pandemic management in our country, as well as in other African countries.

Since its outbreak in december 2019 in Wuhan Province (china), the coronavirus (cOVID-19) disease quickly spread around the world in such a way that most response plans were outdated. There was an urgent need to c.a.ge and adapt response strategies as the virus globally spread. Entire firms and economies were brought to a standstill in order to reduce the virus’ capacity to spread and to limit some of the short-term impacts in order to save time and find out solutions to come back to a more or less normal way of life. Thus, most of the countries that closed their air, sea and land borders had to reopen them progressively, with travel restrictions submitted to rigid controls. In côte d’Ivoire, as in all other countries, air travellers leaving the territory were required to provide a certificate for a negative cOVID-19 test, valid for 24 to 72 hours depending on the country of destination. However, the national system implemented could not provide a result before 48 hours. The objective of this work was to develop an alternative strategy to the system for air travellers who were in a hurry and those who had a computer bug in obtaining their result. A total of 38,444 air travellers benefited from this strategy implemented by the Institut Pasteur de côte d’Ivoire during these two years.

Influence of Beverage consumption Made from Baobab Pulp (<i>Adansonia digitata L.</i>) on Postprandial Glycemia in côte d’Ivoire

The study’s aim was to assess the consumption influence of beverages from baobab pulp on postprandial blood sugar in côte d’Ivoire. Thus, a consumer survey of baobab juice was carried out in the city of Abidjan. Beverages from baobab pulp collected in four localities of côte d’Ivoire (Man, Boundiali, Bouake and Abidjan) were prepared. These beverages were consumed by 15 subjects over a period of 9 days to determine their glycemic index (GI), glycemic load (GL) and postprandial blood sugar. During the survey, baobab juice’s consumers’ respondents were composed more of females (53.3%) than males (46.7%). Baobab juice is generally consumed in the afternoon by 35% of respondents twice a week (34.5%). Among the preferred juices sold in Abidjan markets, baobab juice is ranked second by children (21.4%) and fourth by adults (13.4%). The results of the glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) showed that beverages made from baobab pulp with sugar from Abidjan had high glycemic index and glycemic load. On the other hand, beverages made from baobab pulp with sugar from three other localities showed medium values of GI and GL. However, the GI and GL of the baobab pulps without sugar of four localities are low. The consumption at the will of these beverages without added sugar may be useful for the prevention and control of diabetes. Bayesian optimization(BO)has been leveraged for guiding autonomous and high-throughput experiments in materials ***,few have evaluated the efficiency of BO across a broad range of experimental materials *** this work,we quantify the performance of BO with a collection of surrogate model and acquisition function pairs across five diverse experimental materials *** defining acceleration and enhancement metrics for materials optimization objectives,we find that surrogate models such as Gaussian Process(GP)with anisotropic kernels and Random Forest(RF)have comparable performance in BO,and both outperform the commonly used GP with isotropic *** with anisotropic kernels has demonstrated the most robustness,yet RF is a close alternative and warrants more consideration because it is free from distribution assumptions,has smaller time complexity,and requires less effort in initial hyperparameter *** also raise awareness about the benefits of using GP with anisotropic kernels in future materials optimization campaigns.
