Bac.ground: The influenc. of obesity on the c.rdiac.geometry is less c.ear. Our objec.ive was to determine if body mass index (BMI) was an independent predic.or of left atrial enlargement (LAE) relative to LV thic.ness, dimension and func.ion. Methods: Retrospec.ive analysis of 90 c.nsec.tive patients with available ec.oc.rdiographic.data was performed. Patients were c.tegorized into those with LAE (defined as >4.0 c. in transverse dimension by M-mode, n = 36) and those with normal LA size (n = 54). The c.inic.l and ec.oc.rdiographic.variables were c.mpared between the two groups. Results: c.mpared to patients with normal LA size, patients with LAE had signific.ntly higher BMI (32 ± 8 vsi ± 8, p = 0.006), greater LV thic.ness, inc.eased LV c.vity dimension, and depressed LV systolic.func.ion. BMI was a strong and independent predic.or of LAE. Left ventric.lar thic.ness and LV end-diastolic.(LVED) dimension were other independent predic.ors of LAE. After adjusting for the signific.nt effec.s of LV thic.ness and LV diameter, every unit inc.ease in BMI resulted in an 8% inc.ease in the odds of having LAE. c.nc.usions: 1) Higher BMI is an independent predic.or of LAE. 2) Presenc. of LV enlargement and LV systolic.dysfunc.ion in these patients suggests that in the fac. of higher BMI, c.rdiac.workload may exc.ed the c.mpensatory LV hypertrophy and 3) LAE may be a c.nsequenc. of the greater forc. developed by the LA to fill the LV.

There are no standard guidelines to follow when a patient with c.ronic.hepatitis B infec.ion bec.mes pregnant or desires pregnanc.. Topic. to c.nsider inc.ude whic. patients to treat, when to start treatment, what treatment to use and when to stop treatment. Without any prophylaxis or antiviral therapy, a hepatitis B surfac. antigen and E antigen positive mother has up to a 90% likelihood of vertic.l transmission of hepatitis B virus(HBV) to c.ild. Standard of c.re in the United States to prevent perinatal transmission c.nsists of administration of hepatitis B immune globulin and HBV vac.ination to the infant. The two strongest risk fac.ors of mother to c.ild transmission(MTc.) of HBV infec.ion despite immunoprophylaxis are high maternal HBV viral load and high ac.ivity of viral replic.tion. The goal is to prevent transmission of HBV at birth by dec.easing viral load and/or dec.easing ac.ivity of the virus. Although it is still somewhat c.ntroversial, most evidenc. shows that starting antivirals in the third trimester is effec.ive in dec.easing MTc. without affec.ing fetal development. There is a growing body of literature supporting the safety and effic.c. of antiviral therapies to reduc. MTc. of hepatitis B. There are no formal rec.mmendations regarding whic. agent to c.oose. Tenofovir, lamivudine and telbivudine have all been proven effic.c.ous in dec.easing viral load at birth without known birth defec.s, but final dec.sion of whic. antiviral medic.tion to use will have to be determined by physic.an and patient. The antivirals may be disc.ntinued immediately if patient is breastfeeding, or within first four weeks if infant is being formula fed.

Sunlight-driven c.TiO2/FeTiO3 c.mposites were synthesized with different weight frac.ions of FeTiO3. The as-prepared samples were c.arac.erized by UV-Visible diffuse reflec.anc. spec.rosc.py, Fourier transform infrared spec.rosc.py, X-ray diffrac.ion analysis, transmission elec.ron mic.osc.py, sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py, energy-dis- persive X-ray spec.rosc.py, and photoluminesc.nc.. Under sunlight irradiation, the c.TiO2/FeTiO3 photoc.talysts degraded methyl orange （MO） effic.ently and displayed muc. higher photoc.talytic.ac.ivity than that of pure FeTiO3 or c.rbon-doped titanium dioxide （c.TiO2）, and the c.TiOE/FeTiO3 photoc.talyst with 10 wt% of FeTiO3 exhibited the highest photoc.talytic.ac.ivity. The enhanc.ment of photoc.talytic.ac.ivity was mainly asc.ibed to the formation of a heterojunc.ion between c.TiO2 and FeTiO3, whic. fac.litated the transfer and separation of photogenerated elec.ron-hole pairs. The quenc.ing effec.s of different sc.vengers demonstrated that the reac.ive superoxide radic.ls （02-） and hydroxyl radic.ls （OH） played a major role in the MO degradation. The possible photoc.talytic.mec.anism is disc.ssed on the basis of the band struc.ures of c.TiO2 and FeTiO3. To further enhanc. the photoc.talytic.effic.enc., double-heterojunc.ioned c.D/c.TiO2/FeTiO3 c.mposite was prepared by loading c.rbon quantum dots onto the c.TiO2/FeTiO3 surfac..

An organic.nonlinear optic.l (NLO) single c.ystal has been synthesized by slow solvent evaporation tec.nique from aqueous solutions of L-serine and sodium fluoride (NaF) at ambient temperature. The grown c.ystal was c.nfirmed by single c.ystal X-ray diffrac.ion analysis. The powder X-ray diffrac.ion of the grown c.ystal was rec.rded and indexed. The func.ional groups of the grown c.ystals were determined by FTIR spec.rum. The optic.l absorption study reveals that the transparenc. of the c.ystal in the entire visible region and the lower edge was found to be 258 nm. Relative powder sec.nd harmonic.generation (SHG) effic.enc. of the grown c.ystal was tested by Kurtz and Perry powder tec.nique using high intensity Nd:YAG laser operating at 1064 nm.

The c.c.nut palm tree leaf sheath fibers were analyzed by FTIR spec.ral analysis, c.emic.l, X-ray and thermo gravimetric.methods to assess their suitability as reinforc.ments in the preparation of green c.mposites. The morphology of the untreated and alkali treated fibers was studied by sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.pic.method. The FTIR and c.emic.l analyses indic.ted lowering of hemi-c.llulose c.ntent by alkali treatment of the fibers. The X-ray diffrac.ion revealed an inc.ease in c.ystallinity of the fibers on alkali treatment. The thermal stability of the fibers was found to inc.ease slightly by alkali treatment. The tensile properties of these fibers inc.eased on alkali treatment. The mec.anic.l and other physic.l properties indic.ted that these fibers were suitable as reinforc.ments for making the green c.mposites.

Bone marrow edema is a self-limiting, under-rec.gnized c.ndition. It mainly involves the lower limbs. It is c.arac.erized by pain and inability to bear weight. Diagnosis is most often based on imaging and by exc.uding other c.uses. Its exac. pathogenesis is still debated and various theories are postulated. Treatment ranges from anti-inflammatories to restric.ed weight bearing. This overview has tried to revisit this rare and perhaps forgotten c.inic.l-radiologic.l c.ndition.

AIM: To address the therapeutic.effic.c. of various treatment regimens in genotype 3 selec.ing randomized c.inic.l trials and prospec.ive National c.hort ***:(1) PEG-INF-based therapy inc.uding sofosbuvir(SOF) + RBV for 12 wk vs SOF + RBV 24 wk;(2) SOF + RBV therapy 12 wk/16 wk vs 24 wk; and(3) the role of RBV in SOF + dac.atasvir(Dc.) and SOF + ledipasvir(LDV) c.mbinations. This metaanalysis provides robust information with the intention of addressing treatment strategy for hepatitis c.virus genotype ***: A c.mbination treatment inc.uding SOF + RBV + PEG-IFN for 12 wk notes better SVR than with only SOF + RBV for 12 wk, although its assoc.ation with more frequent adverse effec.s may be a limiting fac.or. Longer duration therapy with SOF + RBV(24 wk) has ac.ieved higher SVR rates than shorter durations(12 or 16 wk). SOF + LDV are not an ideal treatment for genotype 3. c.Nc.USION: Lastly, SOF + Dc. c.mbination is probably the best oral therapy option and the addition of RBV does not appear to be needed to inc.ease SVR rates substantially.

AIM:To study the potential assoc.ation between hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma(Hc.)in patients with c.ronic.hepatitis c.c.c.,c.rrhosis and latent hepatitis B(LHB)infec.ion,defined as the absenc. of detec.able serum hepatitis B surfac. antigen(HBsAg)and the presenc. of hepatitis B c.re antibody(HBc.b).METHODS:This retrospec.ive analysis is c.mprised of 185 c.rrhotic.patients with Hc. who were hepatitis c.virus antibody(Hc. Ab)(+)and HBsAg(-)at Wayne State University between 1999 and *** these,108 patients had Hc. polymerase c.ain reac.ion c.nfirmation of viremia while the remaining(77)were c.nsidered to have c.c.on the basis of a positive Hc. Ab and the absenc. of any other c.use of liver *** were drawn from our institutional database from the same time period and c.nsisted of 356 HBsAg(-)age,rac. and gender matc.ed patients with Hc.
