Effect of the Weaving Density of Aramid Fabrics on Their Resistance to Ballistic Impacts

Two Heracron? woven fabrics, HT600-1 and HT600-2, were fabricated with different weaving densities and their resistance to ballistic impact was investigated. While HT600-1 was inherently stronger along the weft than HT600-2, the latter exhibited a higher tensile strength along the warp. Crimp values indicate that HT600-1, which possesses a relatively larger weft weaving density, induces an excess in the warp crimp ratio, thereby weakening the fabric along the warp. The dimensionless fiber property U*, which is defined as the product of the specific fiber toughness and the strain wave velocity, was calculated for each fabric. The U* values of HT600-1 were lower than those of HT600-2;U* values along the warp of HT600-1 were extremely low. These analyses show that HT600-2 exhibited improved ballistic properties over those of HT600-1. These findings further indicate the existence of an optimal weave that would minimize damage to both yarn and fabric. Establishing these optimal conditions can be crucial in implementing better ballistic properties into fabrics.

MM： To evaluate the maximal-outer-diameter （MOD） and the maximal-mural-thickness （MMT） of the appendix in children with acute appendicitis and to determine their optimal cut-off values to diagnose acute appendicitis.METHODS： In total, 164 appendixes from 160 children between 1 and 17 years old （84 males, 76 females; mean age, 7.38 years） were examined by high-resolution abdominal ultrasound for acute abdominal pain and the suspicion of acute appendicitis. We measured the MOD and the MMT at the thickest point of the appendix. Patients were categorized into two groups according to their medical records： patients who had surgery （surgical appendix group） and patients who did not have surgery （non-surgical appendix group）. Data were analyzed by MedCalc v.9.3. The rank sum test （Mann-Whitney test） was used to evaluate the difference in the MOD and the MMT between the two groups. ROC curve analysis was used to determine the optimal cut-off value of the MOD and the MMT on diagnosis of acute appendicitis.RESULTS： There were 121 appendixes （73.8%） in the non-surgical appendix group and 43 appendixes （26.2%） in the surgical appendix group. The median MOD differed significantly between the two groups （0.37 cm vs 0.76 cm, P〈 0.0001）, and the median MMT also differed （0.15 cm vs 0.33 cm, P 〈 0.0001）. The optimal cut-off value of the MOD and the MMT for diagnosis of acute appendicitis in children was 〉 0.57 cm （sensitivity 95.4%, specificity 93.4%） and 〉 0.22 cm （sensitivity 90.7%, specificity 79.3%）, respectively.CONCLUSION： The MOD and the MMT are reliable criteria to diagnose acute appendicitis in children. An MOD 〉 0.57 cm and an MMT 〉 0.22 cm are the optimal criteria.

During the past several decades,early rehabilitation programs for the care of patients with colorectal surgery have gained *** randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses have confirmed that the implementation of these evidence-based detailed perioperative care protocols is useful for early recovery of patients after colorectal *** cared for based on these protocols had a rapid recovery of bowel movement,shortened length of hospital stay,and fewer complications compared with traditional care ***,most of the previous evidence was obtained from studies of early rehabilitation programs adapted to open colonic ***,limited evidence exists on the effects of early rehabilitation after laparoscopic rectal resection,although this procedure seems to be associated with a higher morbidity than that reported with traditional *** this article,we review previous studies and guidelines on early rehabilitation programs in patients undergoing rectal *** investigated the status of early rehabilitation programs in rectal surgery and analyzed the limitations of these *** also summarized indications and detailed protocol components of current early rehabilitation programs after rectal surgery,focusing on laparoscopic resection.

To investigate a suitable long-term culture system and optimal cryopreservation of intestinal organoid to improve organoid-based therapy by acquiring large numbers of *** were isolated from jejunum of C57BL/6 mouse. Two hundred crypts were cultured in organoid medium with either epidermal growth factor/Noggin/R-spondin1 (ENR) or ENR/CHIR99021/VPA (ENR-CV). For subculture, organoids cultured on day 7 were passaged using enzyme-free cell dissociation buffer (STEMCELL Technologies). The passage was performed once per week until indicated passage. For cryopreservation, undissociated and dissociated organoids were resuspended in freezing medium with or without Rho kinase inhibitor subjected to different treatment times. The characteristics of intestinal organoids upon extended passage and freeze-thaw were analyzed using EdU staining, methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium assay, qPCR and time-lapse live cell *** established a three-dimensional culture system for murine small intestinal organoids using ENR and ENR-CV media. Both conditions yielded organoids with a crypt-villus architecture exhibiting Lgr5+ cells and differentiated intestinal epithelial cells as shown by morphological and biochemical analysis. However, during extended passage (more than 3 mo), a comparative analysis revealed that continuous passaging under ENR-CV conditions, but not ENR conditions induced phenotypic changes as observed by morphological transition, reduced numbers of Lgr5+ cells and inconsistent expression of markers for differentiated intestinal epithelial cell types. We also found that recovery of long-term cryopreserved organoids was significantly affected by the organoid state, i.e., whether dissociation was applied, and the timing of treatment with the Rho-kinase inhibitor Y-27632. Association between Helicobacter pylori status and metachronous gastric cancer after endoscopic resection

AIM To investigate the effect of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) status test and H. pylori eradication on the occurrence of metachronous gastric cancer(MGC) after endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) of early gastric cancer(EGC) and risk factors of MGC. METHODS The authors retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 433 patients(441 lesions) who underwent ESD for EGC from January 2005 to January 2015 in Yeungnam University Hospital. Patients were categorized into two groups; the H. pylori tested group(n = 257) and the H. pylori non-tested group(n = 176) based on performance of H. pylori status test after ESD of EGC. The H. pylori tested group was further categorized into three subgroups based on H. pylori status; the H. pylori-eradicated subgroup(n = 120), the H. pylori-persistent subgroup(n = 42), and the H. pylori-negative subgroup(n = 95). Incidences of MGC and risk factors of MGC were *** Median follow-up duration after ESD was 30.00 mo(range, 6-107 mo). Total 15 patients developed MGC during follow-up. MGC developed in 11 patients of the H. pylori tested group(7 in the H. pylori-negative subgroup, 3 in the H. pylori-eradicated subgroup, and 1 in the H. pylori-persistent subgroup) and 4 patients of the H. pylori non-tested group(P > 0.05). The risk factors of MGC were endoscopic mucosal atrophy in the H. pylori tested group and intestinal metaplasia in all patients. CONCLUSION H. pylori eradication and H. pylori status test seems to have no preventive effect on the development of MGC after ESD for EGC. The risk factors of MGC development were endoscopic mucosal atrophy in the H. pylori tested group alone and intestinal metaplasia in all patients.

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of cap-assisted colonoscopy(CAC) for detection of colorectal polyps and adenomas according to the lesion location and endoscopist training ***: Patients 20 years or older, who underwent their first screening colonoscopy in a single tertiary center from May 2011 to December 2012 were enrolled in this study. All patients underwent either CAC or standard colonoscopy(SC), and all of the procedures were performed by 11 endoscopists(8 trainees and 3 experts). All procedures were performed with highdefinition colonoscopes and narrow band imaging. The eight trainees had experiences of performing 150 to 500 colonoscopies, and the three experts had experiences of performing more than 3000 colonoscopies. A 4-mmlong transparent cap was attached to the end of a colonoscope in the CAC group. We retrospectively evaluated the number of polyps and adenomas, polyp detection rate(PDR), and the number of adenomas and adenoma detection rate(ADR) according to the lesion location and endoscopist training level between CAC and SC. We also evaluated the number of polyps and adenomas according to their size between CAC and ***: Overall, PDR and ADR using CAC were significantly higher than those using SC for both whole colon(48.5% vs 40.7%, P = 0.012; 35.7% vs 28.3%, P = 0.012) and right-side colon(35.3% vs 26.6%, P = 0.002; 27.0% vs 16.9%, P < 0.001). The number of polyps and adenomas per patient using CAC was significantly higher than that using SC for both the whole colon(1.07 ± 1.59 vs 0.82 ± 1.31, P = 0.008; 0.72 ± 1.32 vs 0.50 ± 1.01, P = 0.003) and right-side colon(0.66 ± 1.18 vs 0.41 ± 0.83, P < 0.001; 0.46 ± 0.97 vs 0.25 ± 0.67, P < 0.001). In the trainee group, the PDR and ADR using CAC were significantly higher than those using SC for both the whole colon(46.7% vs 39.7%, P = 0.040; 33.9% vs 26.0%, P =0.012) and right-side colon(34.2% vs 26.5%, P = 0.015; 25.3% vs 15.9%, P = 0.001).
