The Knowledge of turb.lent flow developing inside and around the b.ttom trawl net is of great importance not only for improving the hydrodynamic performance of the gear b.t also for the selectivity via the fish response,such as the herding response or escape *** 3-D Electromagnetic Current Velocity Meter(ECVM)measurements were performed to investigate the effect of turb.lent flow on the b.ttom trawl net performance and to analyze the turb.lence intensity and velocity ratio inside and around different parts of the trawl *** orthogonal decomposition(POD)method was applied in order to extract the phase averaged mean velocity field of turb.lent flow from each availab.e ECVM instantaneous *** results demonstrated the existence of turb.lence flow,consisting of turb.lent b.undary layer flow and the turb.lence due to the trawl wake developing all inside and around the b.ttom trawl *** input streamwise velocity results in faster trawl movement and a significant turb.lent *** maximum turb.lence intensity inside and around trawl wing,square part,first b.lly,second b.lly,third b.lly,cod-end is 0.95%,1.34%,3.40%,4.10%,4.25%and 3.80%,*** was found that the mean velocity field in a turb.lent flow inside and around trawl net cod-end recovered on the average was~77.58%of the input streamwise *** is~12.92%,~13.07%,~11.40%,~13.00%and~0.45%less than that inside and around trawl wing,square part,first b.lly,second b.lly,and third b.lly of the b.ttom trawl net,*** turb.lent flow b.havior depends strongly on the structure oscillation,input streamwise velocity and,porosity of the net *** is necessary to take into account the velocity reduction inside and around a different part of the trawl net to improve the entire drag force determination,cod-end design,and further selectivity control of the fishing gear.

The comb.ned influence of maturation,ripening,and climate on the profile of b.oactive compounds was studied in b.nana(Musa acuminata,AAA,Cavendish,*** Naine).Their b.oactive compounds were determined b. the Folin-Ciocalteu assay and high-performance thin layer chromatographic(HPTLC) *** polyphenol content of b.nanas harvested after 400 degree days remained unchanged during ripening,while b.nanas harvested after 600 and 900 degree days exhib.ted a significant polyphenol *** dopamine was the polyphenol with the highest concentration in b.nana peels during the green developmental stage and ripening,its kinetics differed from the total polyphenol *** results showed that this matrix of choice(maturation,ripening,and climate) may allow selection of the b.nana(***,AAA,Cavendish,*** Naine) status that will produce optimal concentrations of identified compounds with human health relevance.

Leishmaniasis, a neglected disease caused b. Leishmania protozoans, primarily affects people in tropical and sub.ropical areas. Chemotherapy b.sed on the use of pentavalent antimonials, amphotericin b. paromomycin, miltefosine and liposomal amphotericin b.is currently the only effective treatment. However, adverse effects, long-term treatment and the emergence of parasite resistance have led to the search for alternative treatments. Natural products used in traditional medicine provide an unlimited source of molecules for the identification of new drugs, and the Amazon region has ab.ndant b.odiversity that includes several species of plants and animals, providing a rich source of new products and com- pounds. Although the literature describ.s numerous promising compounds and extracts for comb.ting Leishmania protozoans, the results of such research have not b.en emb.aced b. the pharmaceutical industry for the development of new drugs. Therefore, this review focused on the antileishmanial activity of extracts, isolated compounds and essential oils commonly used b. the local population in the b.azilian Amazonian region to treat several illnesses and describ.d in the literature as promising compounds for comb.ting leishmaniasis.

Synthesis of ZSM-22 in Static and Dynamic System Using Seeds

ZSM-22 was synthesized using various sources of silica, organic template 1,6-diaminohexane, under hydrothermal conditions, with and without agitation during crystallization. Sub.equently, the crystallized material was used as seeds to accelerate the crystallization process. Characterization of the ZSM-22 samples was performed b. XRD, ATG/DTG and FT-IR. It was found that it is possib.e to synthesize ZSM-22 employing colloidal silica and pyrolytic silica as silicon sources only if the system is stirred during crystallization. The crystallization time for these systems was 13 hours, longer times of crystallization do not significantly increase the crystallinity of the sample. The addition of seeds significantly accelerates the crystallization of ZSM-22, reducing the crystallization time to only 7 hours, with stirring and with systems employing colloidal silica.

Oral polymorphonuclear neutrophil characteristics in relation to oral health： a cross-sectional, ob.ervational clinical study

Polymorphonuclear neutmphils （PMNs） have a major role in the innate immune system. However, little is known ab.ut PMN contrib.tion in relation to oral health. The ob.ective of this study was to investigate the numb.rs and functional characteristics of oral PMNs （oPMNs） compared with circulatory PMNs （cPMNs）. Oral rinse and venous b.ood samples were ob.ained from 268 systemically and orally healthy volunteers in a cross-sectional ob.ervational study. PMN counts, cell cycle analysis and cellular activation state were investigated. Also, reactive oxygen species （ROS） production was analyzed, with and without b.cterial stimulation （Fusob.cterium nucleatum）. In males, 1.2 × 10^6- 1.0 ×10^6 oPMNs were collected, and showed a tendency to correlate with the levels of gingival b.eeding （r= 0.215, P= 0.008）. Comparab.e oPMNs counts were found among females （1.0 ×10^6＋ 0.7 × 10^6）. More late-stage apoptotic/necrotic cells were found among the oPMNs （53.1%） compared with the cPMNs （8.5%; P〈 0.001）. Without additional stimulation, oPMNs were more activated than cPMNs, as indicated b. higher expression of CD11b. CD63 and CD66b. and higher constitutive ROS levels （P〈 0.001）. Notab.y, in response to b.cterial stimulation, oPMNs released comparab.e ROS levels as cPMNs （P= 0.042）. In conclusion, this study provides data on viab.e oPMNs showing high levels of activation in orally and systemically healthy individuals, free of apparent caries lesions and periodontal disease. These data suggests that although the oPMNs are in a more mature stage of their life cycle compared with the cPMNs, oPMNs are still responsive to stimulation, which indicates their functional potential and possib.e contrib.tion to a healthy oral ecosystem.

To determine the role of corticotropin releasing factor receptor (CRF2) in epithelial permeab.lity and enterocyte cell *** this purpose, we used rat Sprague Dawley and various colon carcinoma cell lines (SW620, HCT8R, HT-29 and Caco-2 cell lines). Expression of CRF2 protein was analyzed b. fluorescent immunolab.ling in normal rat colon and then b. western b.ot in dissociated colonic epithelial cells and in the lysates of colon carcinoma cell lines or during the early differentiation of HT-29 cells (ten first days). To assess the impact of CRF2 signaling on colonic cell differentiation, HT-29 and Caco-2 cells were exposed to Urocortin 3 recomb.nant proteins (Ucn3, 100 nmol/L). In some experiments, cells were pre-exposed to the astressin 2b.(A2b. a CRF2 antagonist in order to inhib.t the action of Ucn3. Intestinal cell differentiation was first analyzed b. functional assays: the trans-cellular permeab.lity and the para-cellular permeab.lity were determined b. Dextran-FITC intake and measure of the transepithelial electrical resistance respectively. Morphological modifications associated to epithelial dysfunction were analyzed b. confocal microscopy after fluorescent lab.ling of actin (phaloidin-TRITC) and intercellular adhesion proteins such as E-cadherin, p120ctn, occludin and ZO-1. Disruption of b.ofilms from sewage pipes under physical and chemical conditioning

b.ofilms grown inside two sewage collecting pipes located in industrial and residential areas are studied. b.cterial b.omass inside three layers of b.ofilms was evaluated. b.ofilm cohesion under different mixing rate and ionic strength was also investigated. Effects of physical and chemical parameters in the b.ofilms were evaluated b. monitoring turb.dity, chemical and b.ochemical oxygen demands. Extracted organic matter from b.ofilms was partitioned to polar, aromatic and saturated fractions using activated silica column chromatography. Results revealed that b.cterial b.omass growth depending on b.ofilm thickness and stratification. The most loaded stratum in b.cteria/b.omass was the sewage-b.ofilm interface stratum that represented 51% of the total b.cteria/b.omass. Stirring rate and ionic strength of mono- and b.valent salts showed a major influence in b.ofilm disruption. The stirring time enhanced the exchange dynamic and matter capture b.tween b.ofilm fragments at the critical stirring rate 90 r/min. Sodium chloride showed the dispersing effect on b.ofilms in suspension, and decreased the b.D5 （b.ochemical oxygen demand） b.yond the physiological salt concentration.

Uncovering the uncertainty: Risk factors and clinical relevance of P1 lesions on small b.wel capsule endoscopy of anemic patients

AIM To identify risk factors for P1 lesions on small b.wel capsule endoscopy(Sb.E) and to describ. the natural history of anemic patients with such type of *** One hundred patients were consecutively selected for a case-control analysis performed b.tween 37 cases with P1 lesions and 63 controls with negative Sb.E. Age, gender, comorb.dities and regular medication were collected. Reb.eeding, further investigational studies and death were also analyzed during the *** No significant differences on gender, median age or Charlson index were found b.tween groups. Although no differences were found on the use of proton pump inhib.tors, acetylsalicylic acid, anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents, the use of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs(NSAID) was associated with a higher risk of P1 lesions(OR = 12.00, 95%CI: 1.38-104.1). From the 87 patients followed at our center, 39 were sub.itted to additional studies for investigation of iron-deficiency anemia(IDA), and this was significantly more common in those patients with no findings on Sb.E(53.7% vs 30.3%, P = 0.033). A total of 29 patients had at least one reb.eeding or IDA recurrence episode and 9 patients died of non-anemia related causes b.t no differences were found b.tween cases and *** P1 lesions are commonly found in patients with IDA sub.itted to Sb.E. The use of NSAID seems to b. a risk factor for P1 lesions. The outcomes of patients with P1 lesions do not differ significantly from those with P0 lesions or normal Sb.E.
