In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation, the consequences of spinal cord injury （SCI） are still challenging. Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field, and recent advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment. Assorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI. This study investigated the effect of systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） in a compressive SCI model. Here we present results of the intraperitoneal route, which has not been used previously for MSC administration after compressive SCI. We used adult female C57BL/6 mice that underwent laminectomy at the T9 level, followed by spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip. The animals were divided into five groups： sham （anesthesia and laminectomy but without compression injury induction）, MSC i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 8×10^5 MSCs in 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, MSC i.v. （intravenous injection of 8 × 10^5 MSCs in 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.v. （intravenous injection of 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）. The effects of MSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining. The number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presence of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition, we analyzed the locomotor performance with Basso Mouse Scale and Global Mobility Test. Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the MSC groups than in the DMEM groups. Furthermore, the MSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors （brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4） in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance. Mesenchymal stem cell(MSC)therapy has attracted the attention of scientists and clinicians around the *** and pre-clinical experimental studies have highlighted the positive effects of MSC treatment after spinal cord and peripheral nerve *** effects are believed to be due to their ability to differentiate into other cell lineages,modulate inflammatory and immunomodulatory responses,reduce cell apoptosis,secrete several neurotrophic factors and respond to tissue injury,among *** are many pre-clinical studies on MSC treatment for spinal cord injury(SCI)and peripheral nerve ***,the same is not true for clinical trials,particularly those concerned with nerve trauma,indicating the necessity of more well-constructed studies showing the benefits that cell therapy can provide for individuals suffering the consequences of nerve *** for clinical trials for SCI treatment the results obtained so far are not as beneficial as those described in experimental *** these reasons basic and pre-clinical studies dealing with MSC therapy should emphasize the standardization of protocols that could be translated to the clinical set with consistent and positive *** review is based on pre-clinical studies and clinical trials available in the literature from 2010 until *** the time of writing this article there were 43 and 36 pre-clinical and 19 and 1 clinical trials on injured spinal cord and peripheral nerves,respectively.

Since 2014,"Bring Your Own Data"workshops(BYODs)have been organised to inform people about the process and benefits of making resources Findable,Accessible,Interoperable,and Reusable(FAIR,and the FAIRification process).The BYOD workshops'content and format differ depending on their goal,context,and the background and needs of ***-focused BYODs educate domain experts on how to make their data FAIR to find new answers to research ***-focused BYODs promote the benefits of making data FAIR and instruct project managers and policy-makers on the characteristics of FAIRification ***-focused BYODs gather software developers and experts on FAIR to implement or improve software resources that are used to support ***,these BYODs intend to foster collaboration between different types of stakeholders involved in data management,curation,and reuse(*** experts,trainers,developers,data owners,data analysts,FAIR experts).The BYODs also serve as an opportunity to learn what kind of support for FAIRification is needed from different communities and to develop teaching materials based on practical examples and *** this paper,we detail the three different structures of the BYODs and describe examples of early BYODs related to plant breeding data,and rare disease registries and biobanks,which have shaped the structure of the *** discuss the latest insights into making BYODs more productive by leveraging our almost ten years of training experience in these workshops,including successes and encountered ***,we examine how the participants'feedback has motivated the research on FAIR,including the development of workflows and software.

Anaerobic Digestion of Food Waste Using UASB Sludge from a Poultry Slaughterhouse as Inoculum

In 2010, Brazil endorsed a new national policy of solid wastes, which has a very ambitious target to close up all the dumping areas and to manage adequately all the municipal solid waste, disposing in landfills only the refuse of treated municipal solid waste after 2019. Food waste is the largest representative of organic waste produced in Brazilian municipalities, which can produce both fertilizer and biogas through anaerobic digestion （AD） process, reducing in both cases greenhouse gases emissions. AD assays of some samples of restaurant food wastes were performed in batch laboratory, 500 mL reactors for determination of optimized start-up conditions. The tests were conducted in triplicate, using anaerobic sludge from a poultry slaughterhouse wastewater treatment as inoculum to start up the anaerobic biodigestors. The effect of three different substrates to inoculum mixing ratios 10：90 （S1）, 20：80 （S2） and 30：70 （S3） was evaluated. The food waste used as substrate was previously homogenized and submitted to aerobic mechanical mixing for four days before it was fed in the reactors in anaerobic conditions at the mentioned proportions with the inoculum. The reactors were maintained at 35 ℃ and under mechanical mixing at 60 rpm. The methane production was monitored until its stabilization. Results showed that S1 presented the best performance during the initial 12 d, when it totalized 526 NmLCH4/gVSsubstrate.

Introduction： The invagination of one intestinal loop within another rarely occurs in adults mid it is usually caused by a polyp or another intJcaluminal lesion. Intussusceptions occur mostly in children; an organic lesion is not necessary, and colic pain syndrome, rectal bleeding, and a palpable mass （the intussuscepted segment） are characteristics. Justification： To compare data from a tertiary reference hospital with data described in the literature, considering the evolution of such patients is unknown in our field. Objective： To report the case of a patient with distal jejunal intussusception from melanoma metastasis. Method： Information was obtained through medical record reviews, patient interviews, photographic records of the diagnostic methods and the surgery to which patients were subjected, and literature review. Final considerations： The case reported and the publications surveyed bring to light the discussion on the therapeutics of the complex condition that is melanoma metastasis, showing that some patients may present satisfactory and lasting results regarding symptom relief and improvement of quality of life.

Candida albicans isolated from urine:Phenotypic and molecular identification,virulence factors and antifungal susceptibility

Objective: To isolate Candida albicans(C. albicans) from the urine of hospitalized patients and assess the virulence factors and antifungal susceptibility profiles of the ***: Yeasts were identified using the chromogenic medium CHROMagar?, the VITEK~?2 system, hypertonic Sabouraud broth, tobacco agar, polymerase chain reaction,and DNA sequencing. The evaluated virulence factors were proteinase production,phospholipase production, and biofilm production on polystyrene. The broth microdilution technique was used to determine the minimum inhibitory ***: All yeasts isolated from urine were identified as C. albicans using both classical and molecular methods. Although 91.3% of the isolates showed no phospholipase activity, 56.5% showed strong proteinase activity and 91.7% produced biofilm. All microorganisms were sensitive to fluconazole, voriconazole and amphotericin B, but 56.5% of the yeasts showed resistance to ***: C. albicans isolates from urine have a high capacity for virulence and can be associated with infectious processes. Furthermore, the high percentage of isolates resistant to itraconazole is important because this antifungal agent is commonly used to treat fungal infections in the hospital environment.

Pain and Fatigue Perceptions of Patients with Systemic Autoimmune Myopathies before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic Period

Objective: To assess general pain and fatigue and their association with the disease status of patients with systemic autoimmune myopathies (SAMs), in terms of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on these parameters. Methods: This is a cross-sectional and prospective cohort study that included 72 patients with SAMs who were matched by age and gender with 67 healthy individuals. The patients engaged in an interview via a validity survey to measure disease status, and assess a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and fatigue in two periods: before (phase I) and during (phase II) of the Brazilian COVID-19 pandemic. For cross-sectional analysis, patients’ data from phase I were compared to healthy individuals’ information, whereas for prospective analysis, data of the patients who were assessed in phase II were compared to the same patients’ data from phase I. Results: The patients had significantly more pain perception, comparable fatigue perception and fatigue severity, when compared to the healthy individuals. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, the disease activity, pain and fatigue perceptions, and fatigue severity remained unchanged. Despite this, the pain and fatigue perceptions correlated significantly with patients’ VAS, the patient health outcome, and fatigue severity. In addition, the pain perception correlated to creatine phosphokinase, whereas fatigue perceptions correlated to physicians' VAS. Conclusions: The study showed that patients with SAMs have significantly increased pain perceptions compared to healthy individuals. During the COVID-19 pandemic period, the pain and fatigue perceptions remained unchanged in patients with SAMs but they correlated to several disease status parameters.

This documentary research aimed to describe the results of an epidemiological survey that sought to determine the prevalence of Infections Related to Health Care (IRHC) in newborns admitted to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the city of Rio de Janeiro. For methodology, the existing data in the original research database were used as the primary source. The method used was the case study in a quantitative approach. The data have been statistically arranged by odds ratio, which measured the possibility of IRHC development at the 102 newborns, by exposition at the risk factors. Results: IRHC prevalence with pneumonias, sepsis, navel’s infection and ocular infections predominance rises. Prematures are 4.10 more susceptible. Twelve hours after amniotic rupture there are 1.77 more chances of infections. Babies with more than 10 days of hospitalization are 4.70 more susceptible than those with 10 days. The registers examined were incipient at the IRHC’s characterization, beginning and duration, which make the IRHC’s diagnostic/notification difficult.
